Special Education Learning Outcomes Collaboration Andrew McComas 1) Assessment and Evaluation One night in class we discussed asking

appropriate questions as a means to assess students skills! "his is a valuable tool because it helps make an assessment o# student understanding quickl$ and e##ectivel$ without giving the student the answer! Sometimes% we can phrase questions in a wa$ to get the answer we want or to guide students to an answer when we need to but this is not alwa$s bene#icial #or the student! &) 'nstructional Content and (ractices One tool that we learned this semester was the abilit$ to use both verbal and non) verbal #eedback e##ectivel$ as a means o# instruction! *$ using verbal cues% we can assist our students in #inding answers or making connections to materials the$ are reading! At the same time% nonverbals such as a thumbs up or a smile can motivate a student to be success#ul when used e##ectivel$! +) ,esign% 'mplement% Management Learning Environments -sing an .*A/*'( is an invaluable tool that we discussed this semester! Although we touched on it in the past% running through a mock .*A/*'( was help#ul because it gave us a strateg$ #or managing the learning environment o# a student with a behavior issue that prevents them #rom learning! 0ith a good team% an .*A/*'( is a wonder#ul tool to help students succeed! 1) ,ata Collection An area we discussed e2tensivel$ in collaboration was teams! "eams can help us collect data because the$ have di##erent areas o# e2pertise! 3nowing how teams #unction can help build good teams which will allow $ou to be more e##ective at gathering and utili4ing data to bene#it $our students! 5) Collaboration Since this class was about collaboration% this was a deepl$ covered topic! One area ' chose to pull #rom though was interpersonal communication! 3nowing the st$le in which $ou communicate a##ects the environment and the relationships that $ou make within that environment! '# $ou have enough awareness to understand $our st$le% $ou are less likel$ to make the errors that will be devastating to $ou and $our #uture team!

6) Ethics and (ro#essionalism ' #elt that interpersonal problem solving was a ke$ component to ethics and pro#essionalism! 7ow we handle our interactions with others positivel$ or negativel$ a##ects our students! '# we can communicate ethicall$ and pro#essionall$% then we are more likel$ to see success at having others assist us in getting the best #or our students needs! 8) Social 'nteractions 'n class% we did an activit$ with a schema chart! "his activit$ helped us to identi#$ how we personall$ #eel about di##erent topics! 0hat this activit$ did was allow us to identi#$ our own personal biases and with that awareness% we can understand how that a##ects our social interactions with people o# di##erent races% nationalities or religions 9ust to name a #ew! "hese social biases can positivel$ or negativel$ a##ect our career pro#essionall$ since we must work with other to achieve our goals #or our students!
