USHLI Partners with the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference in Omaha, NE
USHLI's Student Leadership Series (SLS) continued its fall campaign with a series of successful partnership events with the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference (HLLC). Student Leadership Series events, namely our Level One student assemblies, were held at high schools in Omaha and surrounding communities. Over 5,500 students, teachers, and counselors attended the series of events. USHLI is very grateful for the opportunity to partner with the HLLC in bringing our Student Leadership Series to more schools in Omaha and surrounding communities, which served to challenge and motivate more young Latinos to complete high school and pursue some level of post-secondary education or training.

The Student Leadership Series featured several speakers from CoolSpeak including Carlos Ojeda, Jr., Ernesto Mejia, Shayla Rivera, Joey Negron, April Hernandez, and Joaquin Zihuatanejo. Jimmy Cabrera was the featured speaker at the Student Leadership Summit, and Dr. Juan Andrade delivered the keynote address at the conference.

SLS participating schools will see their students become better motivated, more involved in class and extracurricular activities, more determined to succeed academically and in life, and better prepared to enter the workforce. Over 104,606 students, parents, and teachers in 23 states and Washington, DC have been served this year. Persons interested in hosting an SLS event in 2013 or 2014 should contact Dr. Juan Andrade at docandrade@ushli.org.
