What a tragedy?

The drowning of six youths in the sea at Chennai on the Deepavali day came as a great shock to the families of the youths on the great festival day. It is unfortunate that these youths who were drunk and didn't know swimming plunged into the sea to have a bath. Such a tragedy could have been avoided. It has become a common phenomenon that youths were risking their lives by drunken driving and hundreds of youths below the age group of ! are succumbing to their in"uries in India every day in motor vehicle accidents due to drunken driving and also driving two#wheelers without helmets. In spite of the vigil and monitoring by the police on important festival days including on the $ew %ear& Christmas& Deepavali and other festival occasions& many youths especially college students are risking their lives violating the rules and regulations. It is high time the police should keep a vigil on the 'arina (each in Chennai and other important tourist spots in Tamil $adu and take stern action against drunken driving and anti#social elements who cause public nuisance. ############## )*'+,S
