Friendship in Russia

Who is your friend?

A friend is someone you know really well and trust with everything. (a close or best friend in America) An acquaintance () is someone you know a little. For example: a neighbor, school friend or work colleague. (people we might consider friends in America)

How do they treat friends?


Russian Proverb: A happy one is not who has a lot of money, but the one who has a lot of friends Russians trust their friends with their (soul) all their problems, ask for advice, and are very honest with each other Friendship is treated very seriously and is not easily broken

Why is it like this?

During Soviet times people couldnt trust everyone because of fear of being reported They only trusted a few people but those they trusted, they trusted very much

What do they do with friends?

Often have a really close group of friends that they hang out with that they have grown close to because of trust
Go to the movies, museums, shopping, etc.

Much like hanging out in America
