County Executive’s “Week of Champions” Honors Local High School Sectional Titlists for Achievement
The Capital District has long been known as producing the some of the best high school talent in the state. The fall sports season proved to be a good one for county schools as four schools took home Section II titles. These teams are among the best of the best. Beginning on December 9, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy will visit each school for the “Week of Champions” event honoring the teams whose accomplishments merit recognition for sportsmanship, achievement and excellence. The schedule and location for Champion’s Week is as follows: Monday, December 9 at 3 p.m. – Voorheesville High School, Performing Arts Center The week begins with an event at Voorheesville High School where the County Executive will honor the Section II Class C girls’ volleyball team. The Blackbirds made it to the Class C semifinals this season and won their fourth sectional title in a row. The presentation will be held near the gym. Tuesday, December 10 at 2:30 p.m. – Bethlehem High School, High School Cafeteria The next stop will be Bethlehem High School where the County Executive will honor the boys’ volleyball team for winning the Section II title. The team had a great season and finished with a 24-1 record. Wednesday, December 11 at 3 p.m. at Christian Brothers Academy, Alumni Library The County Executive will honor the CBA football team for winning the Section II Class AA title. The team finished the season 9-1 and dominated the Empire Division. The

Brothers earned a trip to Kingston after beating crosstown rival Shaker 13-8 in one of the biggest games high school football games of the season. Thursday, December 12 at 3 p.m. at Guilderland High School, Large Group Instruction Room The County Executive will close the week by honoring the Guilderland boys’ soccer team. After a successful regular season, the team made it to the state semifinals. The Dutchmen finished their season with a 15-5 record.
