APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES BEASLEY MEDIA COMPLEX OPENING GRADUATION WEEKEND, MAY 10-13 BOONE, NC/March 31, 2013—Appalachian State University will hold a ceremony including light appetizers to open the new Beasley Media Complex and kick off graduation weekend on Friday, May 10, at 4 p.m. The Department of Communication will offer tours of the building throughout graduation weekend: Friday 4-7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 18,000-square-foot Beasley Media Complex is LEED-designed and will house the Department’s Electronic and Media Broadcasting sequence. The building is named after George G. Beasley, who earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in business education from ASU in 1958 and 1959 respectively.

He has owned multiple markets across the United States and is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Beasley Broadcast Group Inc., which he started in Benson, N.C., in 1961. “I am pleased to offer the students at Appalachian State University this incredible building to further their Electronic and Media Broadcast education,” said Chancellor Peacock. “Beasley has been a successful, positive influence on our students and it is an honor to name this building after him.”
