1: Sense of Self and Others Rate: 3- Engages with others Criteria: Demonstrates independence, shares and takes turns with others when assisted, contributes to group task when prompted, with assistance allows others to participate equally, listens while others are talking, names something special about someone else, shows interest or pleasure when another reacts, recognizes others feelings, and attempts to please adults. Date: 10/8/13

On October 8th, Marlowe contributed to the Welcome Song at circle time by clapping her hands, singing along, and offering names that should be sung next. Marlowe allowed her friend Matthieu to also contribute names to sing. Marlowe also recognizes others feelings, and gives her friends hugs when she thinks they look sad.

Core Standard 2: Manages Emotions Rate: 2- Responds to a variety of emotions Criteria: Expresses a variety of emotions, responds to tone and volume of others, responds to the arrival of a familiar person, and responds to the vocalizations and facial expressions of others Date: 10/31/13

On October 31st, Marlowe smiled after a lab student told Marlowe that she liked her bug costume. Marlowe has expressed a variety of emotions, and she has redirected her emotions by the reassuring tone of a teacher. An example is when Marlowe was crying because she wanted Mrs. Liggett to take her to the bathroom, but when I gently told her that I was taking her to the bathroom and offered her a hug because she felt sad, she stopped crying. Marlowe was also very excited when her mom and sister come to pick her up from lab, and squealed with delight when they walked through the door.

Core Standard 3: Interpersonal Skills Rate: 4- Engages in cooperative interactions Criteria: Interacts with others, role plays with peers involving make believe, participates actively in group experiences, takes turns with games and materials with prompts, maintains a conversational exchange, acts to maintain a friendship with preferred peer, and shows concern or comfort when peer is upset. Date: 10/29/14

On October 29th, Marlowe and Sam interacted with one another while putting together a puzzle. They took turns putting in puzzle pieces, and helped each other figure out where each piece went. Marlowe also participated actively in group experiences, especially snack time and circle time today. Today, when Anika was upset, Marlowe gave her a hug, showing concern or comfort because her peer was upset.

Core Standard 4: Responsibility Rate: 4- Applies rules to situations Criteria: Follows rules, cleans up area when finished, completes tasks independently, uses materials in appropriate ways, and works without disturbing others. Date: 10/29/13

On October 29th during snack, Marlowe used her cup and bowl appropriately, followed the rules of snack time, and cleaned up her snack when she was finished. Marlowe was independent during snack time, and did not need any assistance or reminders of the rules of snack time.

Core Standard 5: Problem Solving Rate: 2- Uses trial and error to manipulate objects Criteria: Initiates an action to get a desired effect, anticipates and navigates around environmental barriers, searches for something that is out of sight, takes simple objects apart to solve a problem, puts simple objects together to solve a problem, uses tools to solve problems, sees a simple task through to completion, and performs simple actions with material to see how they work. Date: 10/29/13

On October 29th, Marlowe searched for a missing puzzle piece for a puzzle she was working on. Marlowe had seen the puzzle through to near completion because she not only realized there was a missing piece, but then she then looked on the puzzle shelf to see if she could find the missing piece. Putting together a puzzle also demonstrates putting simple objects together to solve a problem. Marlowe found the missing puzzle piece on the shelf and jumped up and down and exclaimed I found it!

Core Standard 6: Learning Rate: 2- Sustains attention to preferred activities Criteria: Demonstrates curiosity, sees a simple task through to completion, attends to more than one thing at a time (e.g. sings while painting), works through distractions, can entertain self for at least 10 minutes, and will search for a hidden object. Date: 10/29/13

On October 29th, Marlowe sang along to Three Little Ducks that was playing on a cd in the background while eating her snack of cheese cubes and crackers. Marlowe demonstrates curiosity by her frequently asking questions. During snack Marlowe asked, when will mommy and Sloanie get here? and why is it raining? Earlier in the day, Marlowe searched for the hidden missing puzzle piece. Marlowe can often entertain her self for at least 10 minutes, especially when playing with dolls.
