Ebrahims paper deals with two early heresies: Montanism and Manichaeism.

The followings were helpful for me: Page 3: the Montanists movement appears to have been active in the time of Justin Martyr (A.D. 110-165). He writes that the prophetical gifts remain with us, even to the present time. Montanism survived in Irenus time (ca. A.D. 130-202) and beyond. This is evident when Irenus refers to the various gifts of the Spirit such as performing miracles, driving out devils, having foreknowledge of things to come, healing the sick, and raising up the dead as current fact. Page 10: Montanism departed from church tradition by denying the body altogether and thus repudiating the resurrection of the body. The Montanists, filled with spiritual pride and arrogance regarding themselves as Sprit People 1 Corinthians easily come to mind. Page 17: Manichaeism: He considered human beings to be the children of evil who were placed in this material world like objects confined in the form of the wicked, with the children of God being spiritual and heavenly, and the evil ones being unspiritual and earthly. As such, he described that those who dwelt in this world were being made or created in material and physical forms that were evil. Page 18: Christology: [they] viewed Jesus as the splendor as a heavenly figure of revelation giving mysterious knowledge; as the historical Jesus whose suffering signifies as the light being captured in the darkness of material being; and finally as the judge who will return at the end of time. Page 21: However, for Manichaeans, there was a hope for the salvation of the soul. Mani claimed that man was saved through the sacred religion of Manichaeism. Man could be delivered by living a life of severe asceticism, self-discipline, self-denial, and religious practice. Page 24: In conclusion: Manichaeism seemed to have emerged from within Christianity. However, this paper has shown that Manichaeans, in their views of God, Christ, salvation, and the Bible, had nothing in common with Christianity. All these are decent remind us how paying attention to the past will help us see the reality that behind the common heresies of the present like heresies like Manichaeism and Mantoneisn
