These questions pull at the hearts and minds of people throughout life. He wants us to search out the answer to these questions with the hope that we will find Him. and in Him the purpose for our lives. For example. and I believe it is by God’s design. or why you exist. Our common purpose is found in the truth that we were Created by God to work and be productive in that work (Genesis 1:27-28). Philippians 2:13 There is the common purpose of man and then individualized purposes for each of us.Chapter 1 The “Why?” of Purpose Have you ever wondered what your life was really about. All living things were intended to produce.
in the fall they are harvested and in the winter they die in order to be born again in the spring. If we did not live in time. Human life. maturity and decline. Now we know that God is not bound by time. itself. and we could erase the harm of our actions simply by speaking them away. it germinates. There are two types of processes from which we can choose. But time commits us to going through process in order to succeed. many of us do not deliberately produce. we would be able to accomplish what-ever we wanted just by speaking it. In spring things are birthed. everything He has spoken concerning us already exists in eternity.production process. thus many fail to fully achieve a defined purpose. Products and companies have life cycles in which they grow. the only way to get it is by going through the required process to move that thing from where it is to where you want it to be. Unlike the rest of creation. What man’s intellect says needs to be done is typically far inferior to what God says. man has the ability to choose what he will and will not do. The seasons are a production process. A human seed is fertilized. in the summer things mature. man’s and God’s. it is birthed into the world thus ending the gestation process and beginning the process of growth. it keeps untainted atmospheres and environments in balance. and when it has matured. Unfortunately. You may know some people who live life as though there was no boundary called time and no process required getting what they want. If you desire something. mature and either cease to exist or transition into a new focus. humans are bound by time and we must go through process. Like it or not. Yet for those 2 . As each fulfills its unique purpose. is a production process. Most people want to achieve great things in life. So.
Now more than ever. and three. The fruit we produce by pursuing our purposes will supply not only our needs and that of our families. You might be wondering if it is better to just be content with what you have: working where you are working. this year. that is to say your purpose. breathing and able to think a thought. there will be nothing impossible 3 . You just may be on track with what God desires for you. living how you are living. But you won’t know for sure until you take the time to search out what it is He wants from your life. today. God wants to make a covenant with you. it is the very reason we exist. God has given you the ability to produce it. The Importance of Purpose Let’s delve deeper into an understanding of purpose. Purpose is at the core of creation. we need to know why God created us. And with every purpose. You still may be wondering why you should put an emphasis on actively fulfilling your purpose. they still must come through a process in time. and doing what you are doing. that is to bring it into fruition. five and ten years from now. you have a purpose from God.things to be translated into the earth. but will meet God’s needs in the earth. This book takes you through a process that helps you ensure what God called you to do. and pursue it with all your heart. sure. If you will seek His face and make your call and election. develop a plan to do it and realize the destiny God wants to come out of it. If you are alive. placed us where we are today and what we are supposed to do with what He’s placed in our hands.
It is this group of characteristics that will provide the determination to pursue your purpose. Now add to what He’s put inside you the determination to bring it to pass.” In other words. brotherly kindness and to that charity. Nothing pleases God more than obedience and seeing each part of His creation doing what He wants it to do. If we pursue our God-given purposes. As we please Him by using our lives 4 . Verses 5-7 of this chapter tells us to add to our faith: virtue. our focus in this time should be on pleasing God. Finally. your purpose. God has already placed inside you everything that you need. then knowledge. Let’s look at 2 Peter chapter 1 verses 3-11. godliness. by God’s definition of failure (Pause and think on that). That is your knowledge of what God is trying to do through you. as opposed to our own purposes. or. and then to have these characteristics in abundance. patience. and that we do it in a way that pleases God. We will also be richly welcomed into the kingdom. Therefore now. Verse 8 says they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of Christ. through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Genesis 17 and 18 detail God’s covenant with Abraham that was made in his old age. thus proving you are never too old to start living in your purpose. He will likewise prosper you if you obey His word and do what He wants you to do with your life. we will never fall or fail. Peter tells us in verse 10 to make sure we know what we are to do. temperance. Verse 3 says “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.to you and nothing denied you.

Battles are a part of the call and preparation. That is to say. all who want to live a godly life in Christ will suffer some form of persecution. Matthew 7:7 says. But many of us never take the time to search for the amazing treasures God has planted within us. When do I have time to focus on finding my purpose and planning my life? I want to do it but it’s hard to carve out the time and space. etcetera. and for what? If asked to list out everything you do in a given day or week. book clubs.” So. Then you 6 . he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. Peace of mind. dinners. “Who or what says you have to or need to do these things?” If you go through your list. houses to keep clean. we have been moved away from the pursuit of discovering the complementary treasures we are in Him. “When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD. But what about making God happy? Proverbs 16:7 says. Of course. most of us could fill two or more pages of this book.” After much research and considering the experiences of others and my own.treasure of the knowledge of God and His Christ. “Because I have to or I need to do it. homework to help with. Either you do what you do to meet the expectations of other people in your life or. The only way to have that peace is to make sure your ways are pleasing to God. etcetera.
if we cry unto the Lord. and it pleases Him to give us the very best. Consider this. Furthermore. We need the things.will have peace. But if we never take the time to find out what God wants of us. He needs the testimony that will draw people into the Kingdom of God. He will lead us by a straight path into what we need. He NEEDs for us to seek His face and do things His way for He has already divinely orchestrated the best way to get what He and we want out of our lives. how can we secure the peace and happiness we spend our time pursuing? How can we know that we even have true peace and happiness? Why go through life questioning life? You can stop wondering and begin knowing. In Psalm 107:4-6 the scripture tells us that if we are wandering about seeking yet not finding. not only with those that like you. Matthew 6:33 encourages us to first pursue the kingdom of God. Change your routine enough to make time to ensure your activities are taking you where God wants you to go. but God will make those that don’t like you act right towards you so you can live in peace with them as well. He also causes us to have favor when and where ever we need it. now you ask. So. “Is all this really necessary for me to do? Isn’t this activity optional instead of mandatory?” 7 . (His will. For these reasons we must choose the ways that please Him. His ways) and all the other things we need and desire will be given to us by Him. An hour or so a day is all you need to invest to make sure your life has the profitable return God desires. God has created us all for His good pleasure.
You either get stronger. whether good or bad. the very point of your existence is purpose. or you get weaker. 6 I planted the seed in your hearts. and Apollos watered it. 5 After all. then. Every moment. doing nothing can have a great impact on others just as filling your life with activity can. can live on well beyond your years. even though we are just one among billions. You are God’s building. is a new experience. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. Everyone is moving every day. we grow older and our bodies change with time. but it was God who made it grow. who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. You are either moving forward or you are moving backwards. 9 For we are both God’s workers. Too many of us are living day to day 8 . Every day. Will your impact be positive or negative? For there really is no neutral position in life.It is important that we make the most of the abilities we have. And you are God’s field. is for you. In summary. Saying nothing can have a great impact on others just like voicing your opinion. Whether you are a hermit or like to be out in large crowds. And even then. the fruit of your actions. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. No one’s life stands still until they die. your life affects others in one way or another. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. Likewise. a new opportunity to learn and grow. I Corinthians 3: 5-9 (I Corinthians 3 for context) The next question. Every day is a new opportunity to be active and produce good fruit (things) that will last. 7 It’s not important who does the planting.
As a consequence. He is in full control of all things in the earth. He is waiting for His church to ready itself for battle. but who will pick the fruit and present it to the Master? Who will answer the call and go? Will it be you? Are you willing to help God harvest the church? God wants to make a covenant with you. Conclusion God. yet never finding it but rather finding disappointment and failure. the I AM. He is waiting and looking for a people who will recognize that the only choice they have in life is to obey Him. All of creation has a purpose because God did nothing without a purpose in mind. doubt or reservation. Each of us is planted in the earth with our own unique seeds. He is looking for a people who will take up the charge and follow His lead without question. now is not the time to be overwhelmed by the ways of this world and its circumstances. we try one thing after another looking for satisfaction. Through years of experience and training.without really knowing just what our purpose is. God has 9 . Won’t you honor God and put that investment to work? All you need to fulfill God’s will in your life is already inside you. God is calling for His people to arise. We must discover what they are. There are so many souls to be harvested. is alive and well. These things are but signals to the church that it is time to move in lock-step with the plan of God. The problem is that our lives are not yet lined up with God’s purpose. know how God wants us to use them and determine in our minds to bring them into fruition. In you He placed the investment called purpose. So.
you will constantly be embroiled in conflict. and it should guide every plan and decision. 10 . you will have the strength and wisdom to respond in a way that pleases Him and gains you the victory. Knowing your purpose will help you make the right decisions in the face of any life question. Are you tired of being impacted by conflict. It’s now up to you to accept the charge and fight the good fight. If you are working towards something other than your purpose.readied you for the battle. Your purpose should be at the core of each area of life. worry and distress? Are you tired of things never quite working out for you? Have you had it with the circular patterns you seem to be stuck in? The key answer to the problem is purpose. I will take you through the steps to discovering your purpose and show you how to incorporate that purpose into each of the five areas of your life (faith. you will constantly hit walls and blocks. Throughout the pages of this book. Align yourself. the fruit you produce will supply you and the hundreds you will impact over the course or your life. which is the fight of faith in God through Christ Jesus. relationships. confusion and strife. with the plan of God. today. Once you have a good handle on your purpose and how to fulfill it. I encourage you to find God’s purpose for you and pursue it with all your heart so that you will not fall. career and finances). Stay focused on what God wants to do through you so no matter what circumstance presents itself. so that all will go well with you. If what you are doing today conflicts with God’s purpose for your life. health. How do you fight? You fight by boldly moving forward to bring God’s purpose for your life into Fruition.

But many of us make the mistake of pursuing the promise and not the purpose. and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. Now you know what your life is all about. Knowing your purpose helps you understand the promises He gave you. His blessings for you in this lifetime and in heaven will be manifested through the fulfillment of that purpose. It’s about pleasing God by living according to your purpose so that all will go well with you in this life and the one to come. We tend to be in agreement with God about His promises to us. However. and that it may be well with you.“Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you. each person’s inheritance for this earthly life is unique.” Deuteronomy 5:33 We all have different lands to possess.
Our mind is the decision-making faculty given to us. submitted to God and free of untruthful clutter is critical to achieving any form of success in anything. Power. The measure to which we let the Spirit rule our lives depends on our level of surrender to His will. We thank God that through Christ we have already inherited the spirit of a sound mind. Based on the perceptions and beliefs we store there. With His Spirit came three critical attributes. we make decisions to either do things God’s way or not. Love and Soundness of Mind.Chapter 2 Prepare Your Mind For Action Those who have received Christ have also received His spirit. Now we must use what we gained through the Spirit to help us achieve God’s will in the earth. Having a mind that is firmly grounded. We can understand the Power and Love part but how does Soundness of Mind (Self-Control in other versions) fit with the other two? Self-Control is also one of the fruits of the Spirit. 13 .
The Shared Vision is to have lives that are living testimonies to the truth of who God is and the path to reconciliation. but the same Spirit. your purpose is the impact your life has on others.In this book. strategies can be developed to help them achieve their goals. How we each accomplish this common PVM comes to light in our individual PVMs. When bridging the gap between our common PVM and our individual ones. Since I am not before you in person. then. the Shared Mission is to disciple all nations. And. as we prepare to discover our purposes and develop plans to achieve them.Now there are varieties of gifts. Your Mission is what you have to do to bring that picture into existence and your Strategy contains the detailed steps required to achieve your mission. One is built from the other with Purpose being the first and principal thing. In short. your Vision is a picture of your life at some point in the future in which you are fulfilling your purpose. keep in mind all of I Corinthians 12 highlighting the following verses: “4. it is easiest to explain these terms using what we all share in common. Without knowing your purpose. Man’s rules can only give you generalizations for which a large number of people may appear to qualify. when you live life without a focus on purpose. you risk making decisions that will take your life in directions that are not best for you. His ordinance for you is specific to you. When you have God’s mind about your relationships. Once we know. 3) Produce an abundant supply of good fruit that is pleasing to God. what happens if you don’t stop long enough to figure out why you’re really here? Well. it is then on us to choose to do what God said to do. God will let you know at the offset what a relationship is all about. if we ask we shall receive the answers we need to live successful lives (Matthew 7:7). no matter how well they may line up with “the rules”. But if you ask God. If you make a poor decision because you used your rationale instead of the knowledge of God’s will it may take years for Him to reroute and bring you back on course. One small decision can drastically alter your course. if you take time to ask Him. Unless you pray and seek God about what type person you should marry. it becomes easy to say who is not right for you in marriage. which is what God wants you to have when you act. you can’t be sure that you are doing the right things. You may have a high level of confidence based on facts but you won’t have complete assurance. No one needs to waste their time trying to figure things out.
After you start living out your plan. God has a vision for how He wants things to be at any given 17 . Peace is serenity. Once you discover it. How can you ensure that you’ve discovered your real purpose? The dictionary definition of purpose is an intended or desired result. and the relationships you choose to have. The only way to achieve the ultimate success of peace is to actively pursue your unique purpose.The Critical Mindset – The First Step to Discovering Purpose Before discovering your purpose and developing a plan. worry and discontent. “How can you tell me the specifics of my unique purpose?” I won’t tell you but rather take you through a process that helps you discover it for yourself. prosperity and satisfaction in each area of life with freedom from persistent hostility. You may ask. It is the change or improvement of something or some group of people that happens because you produced good fruit with your abilities. such as the environment in which you live and work. Your purpose is the result or impact that comes about from you doing what God wants you to do with what you have been given. This process includes creating a well thought out plan or approach that takes into consideration any potential outside influences. how can you evaluate whether or not you’re being productive and accomplishing your life purpose? The ultimate measure of success in life is peace. Your thoughts have to be consistent with success. I will help you develop a process for achieving it. you must have the right mindset to ensure the greatest effectiveness.
Know your Capabilities (Know what you have) 2. If it doesn’t bear fruit after that then cut it down. you may suffer the consequences of the fig tree that did not bear fruit when it was supposed to (Luke 13: 6-9). He was ready to cut it down. discover your purpose and start achieving it. maybe then they will bear their fruit. Here are 3 steps you can take now towards knowing your purpose: 1. God is waiting for us to deliver. Focus (your mind) on Service to God (Know how God wants you to use them) 18 . “give them one more chance. but his workman said. Passion is powerful feelings or great enthusiasm. your purpose can be found in what you have a passion about or a burden for.” Do you know that each of us is planted in God’s vineyard. Know your capabilities (Know what you have) The dictionary definition of capability is being qualified. patience.1. 19 . It is your unique combination of skills. goodness. Gifts are superior natural abilities that you don’t have to go through the normal course of development to attain. joy. what qualifies you to accomplish your purpose? ABILITY + DETERMINATION I have found that there are three types of abilities and each plays a role in fulfilling your purpose. everyone. So. Ability lies within each of us. No one was born without it and no one lost it along the way. The ability within you was meant to bring you the fruits of love. Abilities are the gifts. Your gifts may help you focus on your specific purpose. Skills are abilities that you gain through the normal course of development. Ability is the physical and mental power to perform. your talents will help add structure to your purpose and your skills will round out the fruit you produce so that it is complete. peace. Your life experiences including your environment have all worked to develop your abilities to produce fruit from the seeds inside you. talents and skills given to you by God. talents and gifts. So. kindness. has the ability to produce something good. Talents are superior natural abilities that you discovered through the normal course of development. no matter his physical or mental limitations. gentleness and self-control. These are all good things that you in turn will give out in the fruit you produce. faithfulness.
Intimacy births the kind of love that makes you want to do anything someone asks of you. and I need to use what I have. add determination. God is looking for someone who will stop asking from Him long enough to ask for Him. Decide now. God is constantly loving and embracing us. Why? So he can share the desires of His heart with us. Let Him tell you how wondrously made you are and you tell Him how great and greatly to be praised He is. Determination is a willing attitude that says I can because I have what I need. Determination plus your abilities gives you the capability to succeed. you have to know the one who gave it to you. You need to know the heart of God. you will begin to make better decisions and respond better to adverse situations. and commune with God. Remember. You will find that your responses to situations will be based on whether they will take you closer to or farther away from purpose. 2. It is what you apply to what God has put inside of you.Now to your ability. Now strengthen yourself to use it to make life what it should be for you and not what it happens to be for you. Take some extra private time to pray. to do the best you can with what you have. you will have resistance against being consumed by them. Get Intimate with God (Know who gave it to you) After you know what you have. Let Him flush your cares away with His awesome presence while you praise Him for just 20 . you have what you need. He is looking for those who love Him enough to ask what they can do to please Him. if the passionate desire is there to perform the task. He constantly yearns for our attention. As you begin to see your circumstances in the light of your purpose. As you focus on your purpose. You must make a decision to push past the circumstantial and use the tangible abilities inside you.
Tell Him how you appreciate His calling you out from among the thousands of others He could have chosen. your focus in life should be solely to please Him.bringing you through another day with a mind to want to praise Him. Thank Him for how He delivers you again and again from the schemes of the enemy. Through this intimacy you will be more open and better able to hear from God through leading or His voice. Tell Him how you appreciate the way He keeps you safe and protected from all sort of dangers and peril. For out of His love flows all the purposes of His heart for you. and out of your love for Him flows the fulfillment of those purposes. 21 . You can only please God through obedience to His written word and the specific revelation of that word in your life. you should be willing to do any good thing for that person. Thank Him for just being love in your life. Focus (your mind) on Service to God (Know how God wants you to use it) If you love someone. when it seems no one else in the world knows you exist. and how you appreciate the fact that He even noticed you. Thank Him for giving you a determined attitude to use them. 3. 2 Timothy 2:4 says. Tell Him how much you love Him and appreciate the abilities He has placed inside you. Get intimate with God. Once you know your capabilities and you know that God loves you.
Whether you decide to be a soldier in the Lord’s army or not.] Let’s now clear your thoughts of any mental roadblocks or pitfalls. With Christ as our commanding officer. and it is your very life and the lives of those you are supposed to touch with your purpose that are at stake. you are in the middle of this battle. this is what we must do in order to be prepared for achieving the purpose that God designed for each of us. Remove from your mind any thoughts that reflect a negative self-image. There is one thing we know for sure about the battle. 22 . that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. Pause and complete this task. If we keep our mind stayed on Christ. I don’t know about you. Remember and apply the information already presented in this teaching. Make sure you have a pen and journal handy to capture pertinent thoughts. Preparing Your Mind Exercise [If you’re not there already. find a quiet spot to do this exercise. This includes any thoughts you may have that suggest you are not smart enough. we need to be found seeking His face for instruction while letting Him handle the distractions of life that try to pull us off course. rich enough. good-looking enough. God is the one who will be victorious.“4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life. Denying the flesh nature and building up the spirit man. He will give us the desires of our heart because our desires are aligned with His will. but I want to be on the side of victory. there is a battle raging in the heavenlies right now. Your entire life needs to be aligned for the sake of your purpose. not worth or worthy enough.” Make no mistake.
you may have a problem in this area. Replace the lack of confidence. Everyone makes mistakes. Your opinions are the most valuable when it comes to your own life.Now. We often value the opinions of others above our own because we don’t trust our own judgment. Pause and consider your level of trust in God and your degree of confidence. you are making sound decisions. No one lacks the ability to succeed. Sometimes we look at the successes of others and think they have some special advantage that we do not possess. you may have to use a different set of resources than someone else in order to 23 . redirect any misplaced confidence. No one knows you better than you and no one is more committed to your well-being than you are. If you have a hard time making decisions. you are still your most valuable asset. When pursuing your purpose. as we all do. Eliminate poor attitudes including the “everyone else but me” mindset. Believe in your ability to succeed. Though you may make mistakes. The truth is that we each have what it takes to be successful at our given purpose. Learn to trust yourself. you cannot be overdependent on the opinions of friends and loved ones. but you are still the best decision-maker you will ever have. The lack of confidence is rooted in the lack of self-trust. But you must first have the confidence that you can make good decisions. and the wisdom you have acquired from God through your experiences. and tend to follow the crowd. and outside resources are always attainable to help you. In some cases. But if you make decisions based on the knowledge available to you.
accomplish or help with something positive. Once you focus on and accomplish these goals you will find greater peace. to care about what happens to you and those you will impact during the course of your life. Again. Seeds can only thrive and grow into what they are. "Do I really have everything I need to do it?" If you have hope to believe you can achieve certain things. 24 . Everyone was born with seeds of purpose. then you do have all you need to make it happen. So. the seed can successfully produce only under the right growth conditions. Your seeds of purpose are whatever passionate desires you have to create. But if you seek out what you need. Pause. purpose is the result or outcome of accomplishing the set of goals for which you were created. you shouldn’t expect a lemon seed to produce apples or a mango tree to produce pears. You may ask yourself. as you are today. Even if you do know the seed you planted and expect the right type of harvest. “How can I ensure a successful future? How can I improve my destiny?” The best way to maximize peace and minimize conflict in each area of life is by actively pursuing your own unique purpose. you will eventually find it.accomplish something similar. You then use that caring attitude to make positive improvements and changes towards a better future. You may now ask. Do you believe you can achieve the level of success you desire to achieve? To sum it up. happiness and contentment. having the right mindset is about loving yourself enough.
Though you may now recognize your seeds of passion you might wonder how capable you are of successfully pursuing your life’s passion. Remember. Ability is a given (and you do have all that you need). You can get started towards achieving the ultimate success of peace by living on purpose. capability =ability + determination. Make or renew your commitment to being the best you can be. the greater your capability of achieving abundant success. The greater your resolve to actively pursue your purpose. And then move on to discovering your purpose. You may now wonder what is required for you to move forward. You cannot afford to wait for others to go along with you or to encourage you to do what you already know needs to be done. The size of your determination will determine how capable you will be at achieving success. 25 . Take some time now to reflect on how ready you are to start this process.Summary I hope you are now convinced that you can produce abundantly from what is already inside you. This is a personal decision. Love yourself enough to be the best you can be and to have the greatest success you are capable of achieving. Decide for yourself.
we as people all share a common vision. As a reminder. your mind is now prepared for action. The Shared Mission is to disciple all nations and our shared Strategy is to discover our purpose. It is clear that we cannot produce apples from lemon seeds or that oranges won’t grow on peach trees. Our Shared Vision is to have lives that are living testimonies to the truth of who God is and the path to reconciliation. mission and strategy. either through the process of “group think” or from bad advice we received somewhere in life.Chapter 3 Discovering your purpose Hopefully. excavate the value of life experiences and produce an abundant supply of good fruit from our efforts. However. Each person has a different set of internal seeds to produce from. we continue to try to make our lives fit into a mold or pattern created for someone 27 .
The change may be as simple as adjusting your time schedule. And each fruit grows best under a certain set of environmental conditions. Once you have discovered your own seeds. This is why we need different people. Survival is passing or just making it. “If I could just do what she did. in order to reap the greatest harvest. you may need a drastic change in circumstances. living in different places doing different things in order to maintain the balance of life that God created. Why can’t you produce successfully right where you are? Your current life proves that you can at least survive right where you are. Once you know your purpose there are a number of changes you may have to make in order to accomplish it. in a particular type of soil and in a particular climate. Some of us try to model our lives after an admired friend or we look at fashion magazines to determine the optimal body shape and features. Your success will be found in what is already inside of you. or as involved as moving to another city. is 28 . Success. We all supply each other by doing our part when and how we are supposed to do it. They are best planted at a given time of year. In order for the seeds within you to thrive they have to be cultivated in the right environment. It is the same as getting a D in a class you took at school. on the other hand.” But the reason it’s not working for you is that your seeds are oranges and pears and that “successful” person recognized and worked with their own mango and apple seeds.else. Each type fruit has its own production cycle or process. you then have to determine how best to cultivate or produce them. most people will not have to make a drastic change but just recognize it if you do. But in order to make the best use of your life and achieve success. We read or hear of financial success stories and think. Granted. I would make a lot of money too.
Both are passing grades. They are your abilities.achieving your best. By accomplishing your purpose. then purpose is the outcome or result of your being in that desired state. Each of our lives has a great impact on environments. Purpose is linked to a vision of how things should be. Your purpose is really God’s purpose for you. skills and gifts. and put them to good use. self-confidence and willingness to try. greater opportunities that lead to success are given to those who exhibit these attitudes. Passion is very powerful feelings or great enthusiasm and desire is a strong hope or attraction. Desire is a good thing if it is not perverted or misused. Furthermore. Your personal strategy is to know what types of seeds you have then nourish. develop. Again. your unique purpose is found in whatever you have a passionate desire to do. Your seeds are your talents. If vision is a desired state of being. But let us go into more detail so you can move closer to yours. Be willing to do whatever it takes. It has been placed in 29 . How do you discover your unique purpose? We’ve defined purpose at a high level. It is what happens or has happened because you became who you were created to become. Your personal mission is to produce good fruit from or make the most out of the abilities you have been given. But the “A” indicates a greater self-commitment. which is the same as getting a grade of ‘A’. It is His vision of what things will be once you do your best with the seeds He planted inside you. the state of something or some group of people should be different from if you had not accomplished your goals.
So by being honest with yourself. Therefore. Include those 30 . without one lesson. Skills are trades. study and practice. you can still learn how to do almost anything well with training. Their minds and bodies seem to quickly sync up to perform far better than others. your purpose can be found in those things that you have great enthusiasm for or have very strong feelings or opinions about. There are those who once you teach them a sport they grasp it and outshine all the other players. Talents are superior natural abilities. Please. Even if they can’t read music. better than most. Even if you are not gifted or talented at it. either mental or physical. I will now ask you a set of questions that identify your gifts. expertise or techniques that you have learned and developed over time. right? Let’s take it further. First. that you have discovered through a normal course of development.each of us by God to help us discover what we were intended to do. can sing with beauty the greatest aria. Simple. There are gifted singers who. talents. Gifts are superior natural abilities that you have been given without going through the normal course of development or training. write your answers in your journal. they can hear it and out sing the most trained artist. Each of us has been blessed with much more than we think. what would you say are your talents? These are those things that you have worked to develop and now do very well. you should be able to list more than a few items in response to the following questions. Everyone should be skilled at something. and skills.
Then answer this next set of questions. Now. Really acknowledge all that God has made you to be so far and summarize it. Second. Review your responses. organizational. if you did spend a little time developing them. physical. or financial gifts. what special gifts would you say you have that you don’t see in too many other people? In other words. would you do far better than the average person? This can include mental. 31 . in one sentence. In one sentence. inasmuch as it is physically possible? This statement can be very similar to who you are today.things that you are still developing or hope to develop but believe you have a natural ability to do well. Write down as many as you can think of whether you like using them or not. how would you describe who you would like to be. Add to each of the lists things you may have left out including abilities that shined when you were a child but you’re not necessarily using now. These can be job. communication or physical skills. what skills have you developed over time? This is learned expertise. today? Don’t be self-deprecating. Third. describe who you are. communication. spiritual. people. what can you do really well without having practiced or trained significantly to do? What things. Include those that you are working on or hope to work on in the future. something you may be good at that is not necessarily natural but through practice and experience you are able to do well.
skills or gifts. on your list that you enjoy being good at. If you are comfortable that you answered the previous questions as honestly as possible (that is without negative attitudes and limitations). other than the pleasure you gain? How can what you really enjoy doing solve problems for. then go back and rethink the answers to the first set of questions. Continue when you are comfortable with the responses you made. Answer these questions for those items with at least two stars. Every item on this list should make use of at least one of your talents. what would you have to do to be better at performing your passion? How can what you are passionate about doing provide value to others? Does it help you in some way.Stop now to Review your responses and make any changes you desire. Using your previous answers as a guide. from your list. do you really enjoy being good at? Put one star next to those items. are you passionate about doing even if you’re not the best at it today? Put another star next to those items. answer questions for or meet the needs of others and yourself? 32 . Briefly (in a sentence or two). What is it that you are passionate about doing but want to be better at doing? Put another star next to those items. Make a list of at least ten things that you do well. then let’s move forward. answer this next set of questions. What. What. If not.
Did you accurately capture yourself and your passions? If not. (Doing or Becoming What?) You can list any number of things that summarize your abilities. Here are some general examples: Playing an instrument Selling homes Playing Sports Practicing medicine Teaching a particular course Teaching a particular group Caring for animals Starting new things Being an Innovator Managing Finances Developing others’ ideas Building things or people Speaking words of encouragement in complex situations 33 . “My purpose in life is to bring healing. comfort and stability to others by. You can document your purpose by saying something like. modify the answers to any of the questions above until you feel they accurately reflect who you are. what would you say is your purpose in life? Remember. it is an improved state of things that results from your having achieved some goals related to your life’s passion and desires. Relationships. Finally. though it can be. Career and Finances Take some time to review and consider all of your responses. Health. based on these responses.Now think about and note how you can incorporate your passion into each of your five life areas: Faith. It is not necessarily a career path.
and to provide stability and a peaceful environment for my family by being the best practicing physician in the area of pediatrics. 34 . The second part is the foundation of your unique mission: “by being or doing what? ”The “what” that you do to cause the impact.” Your purpose statement or what results from that could be: “Children whose lives I impact are healthier and health conscious throughout their lives and my family is at peace and has everything they need and desire. for example: “I am known among my peers and within my region as the best pediatrician in the Tri-State area. Your vision Statement could be the following. You can now create a unique mission and vision statement for your life.” These statements incorporate each of the five life areas in the following way: In the life area of Faith: His faith is the Foundation for the need and resolve in accomplishing the purpose.Negotiating conflicts Bringing organization to confusing situations Motivating others to act responsibly Being a good listener and providing sound guidance The first part of the statement is the foundation of your life vision: “My purpose in life is to bring/do what to whom?” It is who and what is impacted.” Your corresponding mission statement could be: “My mission is to bring healing and comfort to those in need.
In Health: He uses skill as a physician to help children. You should now have a good sense. family and himself practice good health habits For his Relationships: The personal benefits of purpose allow needed flexibility to build and spend time with his family. I will ask again. His Career: His abilities and determination motivate great success in achieving the purpose His Finances: Income from pursuing purpose helps create the environment required to accomplish the purpose. Ask God if it is in line with what He desires for you. How can you broadly incorporate your purpose into each of your life areas so that it positively impacts your life and the lives of others? Pray over all of your responses and your purpose statement. of what your purpose is and how you can use your abilities to accomplish it. 35 . Ask for His wisdom to refine and better articulate it. at least. Now. Now that you know how to discover your purpose. Improve what you wrote based on His leading or Word to you. let’s move to Excavating the Value from your life experiences and Producing an Abundant Supply of Good Fruit.
Some of your nurturing seemed pleasant and some of it may have seemed awful. heard. From the day you were born. your extra-curricular activities. your work experiences. the seeds of life inside of you have been nurtured. Excavating the value is about nurturing those seeds. your friends.Chapter 4 Excavating Your Value Now that you at least have an idea of what your purpose is. you can focus on developing your abilities to achieve it. your enemies. and not only by your caregivers. everything that you have seen. You were nurtured by your living environment. touched. We do this by incorporating past and future life lessons into our efforts so we become more capable of achieving our goals. smelled or tasted has nurtured you in some way. But it all had 37 . Discovering your purpose was about identifying the seeds within. and your education experience.
But we became stronger for having lived through it. prepare to answer the following set of questions in your journal: Make a list of at least five of your most memorable good experiences For each one. But. how did each make your feel? Why do you think you felt the way you did? 38 . There have been some life experiences in which we had a pile of manure dumped on us. The more value we take from those experiences. Everything we experience in life is meant to contribute some type of value to our lives. write down what made them memorable? That is to say. it irritated us. The same thing is true of the seeds planted in us. With this in mind. Even what you have accomplished up to this point would not have been as valuable without unpleasant learning experiences. It exposed and embarrassed us. Now we focus on helping you to recognize and use as much of that value as possible and show you how to continue to extract and use that value in the future. and maybe it made us cry and fall apart for a while. when you mix it in soil and your seeds break open to receive it. It smelled bad.value for you. If life were what some consider perfect. It is really smelly waste from another animal. the plants those seeds produce are stronger and produce a more abundant supply of better quality fruits or flowers. Let’s consider natural fertilizer or manure. we would not produce nearly the amount of good fruit we have the ability to produce. the stronger and better equipped we will be towards accomplishing our purpose.
specific part of that experience would you never like to have happen again and why? How can you prevent similar experiences from happening again? If something similar did happen. stamina. how did you respond or react? What. your character.How did you react or what did you do in response to each of these experiences? And why did you react as you did? What about your good experiences would you like to have happen again. and capabilities? What strengths did you identify? What weaknesses did you identify? Now. what weaknesses did you identify? 39 . stamina. make a list of your most memorable “bad” experiences. how would you respond differently and how do you think the result might change? From each experience. what did you learn about yourself? What did you learn about your likes and dislikes. For each “bad” experience. what did you learn about your character. and capabilities? What strengths did you identify. write down what you learned about yourself? What did you learn about your likes and dislikes. and why? From each experience.
what can you do to let go of any regrets of past mistakes and bad experiences that may not have been your fault? For we all make mistakes or have done things we wish we had not. friends and co-workers? Do you have His mindset towards your work or taking care of your body? Do you even have His mindset about Kingdom living and your faith? The wisdom you take forward has to be lined up with the Word of God because man’s wisdom will never prosper you. take a look at your current mindset towards interacting or working with people across all areas of your life. have you asked for forgiveness. Not the experiences themselves. Do you truly have the mindset of Christ towards your relationships with family. The key to being successful after bad experiences is taking only the wisdom from those experiences into the future. have you done all that is reasonably possible to correct the situation? For example.Now that you have gone through this process. Let go and move forward. summarize all that you learned from your good and bad experiences. What did you learn about others and interacting with others? What did you learn about actions and consequences? What did you realize about interacting with people and situations that will help you respond better to future situations? Based on your responses to the above questions. repaid the debt or made some other form of peacemaking gesture? If you have done all that you could. Up to this point. Now. 40 . Your success can only be secured if you are living according to God’s wisdom and have a mindset that is lined up with His word. then trust God to make up the difference.
in a sentence. how would you describe yourself now? This is more a question about your character than abilities. If you keep looking back to prior achievements and using them to justify your success today. it’s time to let go and move forward taking only the value of those experiences with you. he will try to 41 . Why let go of the good experiences? There is an old saying.With that said. What strengths do you want to keep developing? What can you do to develop your areas of weakness so they become strengths in the future? How can you apply those strengths and future strengths towards accomplishing your purpose in each life area? Write it in your journal. Your good experiences can hinder you just as much as your bad ones can. Now that you’ve examined both your good and bad life experiences. This is a deceptive train of thought. Some go so far as feeling as though they have ‘arrived’ and so they don’t seek out new opportunities to use the abilities and value they hold today. “Never rest on your laurels” (referring to the ring of laurels that would be placed on the head of winners during the ancient Olympics). This is the same questioning process you can take yourself through every time you have a memorable experience in the future. Review all of your responses. If the devil can’t hold you back with your ‘bad’ experiences. you will prevent yourself from seeing and doing all that is possible for you into the future.
bury all the events. Get a cement mixer and pour the cement on top. go through the following mental exercise: Using your imagination. Now cover and seal the hole in the blood of Jesus Christ.hold you back by causing you to think that the good you’ve already done is enough. which we just identified. Let it harden so that you make it very difficult to dig those experiences up again. Now. themselves. in a bag marked ‘ASSETS’. Turn your back to it and step forward as you prepare to produce an abundant supply of good fruit using your bag of assets as fresh seed. in a hole and cover them with dirt. In conclusion. Keep that bag in the forefront of your mind and add to it the value you take from future experiences. 42 . put your value. both good and bad.
43 . He puts plans in place that are multi-faceted and address every area of man and multiple men all at the same time. it has very little meaning. A puzzle piece standing alone cannot adequately represent or satisfy the whole image. But when put together in the proper way with all of the other pieces. Your purpose in God will encompass every area of your life. and the strategy you put in place must incorporate and integrate each life area into a perfect whole that ends up revealing the true you. it contributes significantly to defining and characterizing the entire picture. By itself.Chapter 5 The Five Life Areas The Five Life Areas God is the greatest strategist.
Understanding Vision. will be taken one by one and added together to help us develop your unique vision. These Life Areas. and the strategies to bring them into existence. A vision is a picture of a state of being. mission and strategy for accomplishing your Godgiven purpose. With your purpose defined (you can always refine it over time) and your mind prepared for action. you are ready to develop your vision and mission statements. as I term them. Faith – What and who you believe in. This is your foundation for the other four areas Health – your physical and mental well-being Relationships – Your people connections Career – The work you do Finances – The financial resources you have to employ Each life area will be explored in depth as we further discuss vision and mission. It is the summary set of actions an individual engages in to achieve and maintain the vision. They are defined below. The strategy is the step-by-step plan by which you can start today towards executing your mission 44 . Mission and Strategy Recite what you defined as your life’s purpose. It is a snapshot that communicates a number of things about the circumstances an individual or group hopes to be living in at a future time. From your purpose you will develop a vision for your life.There are five areas of life that taken together include every aspect of your existence. A mission is a statement of doing.
where you would like to be. It is more involved than determining a vision for a company or business.and living your vision. but by using a clear and methodical process. We will then develop a strategy that integrates all five life 45 . once realized. Our approach involves gaining an in-depth understanding of each life area and then formulating a vision and mission statement that articulates your goals for that particular life area. physical. “A picture or image of your future circumstances including what you would like to be. Who you would like to be with is a statement about the condition of your relationships. After going through each life area. Where you would like to be or what your environment will be depends on your financial state as well as your career state. and career states. Vision can be further defined as. We will go deeper into mission and strategy a little later. it can be successfully determined. It is a picture. In order for you to be successful. we will compile the vision and mission statements into one comprehensive set of statements that clearly define where you are headed. But let’s look more closely now at vision. your vision of the future at some arrival point (which you define) must include a vision for each area of your life that can be integrated and balanced. mental (health). such as the one in this book. that will cause you to achieve your God-given purpose in life” What or who you would like to be includes a statement about your spiritual (faith). and who you would like to be with.
All I can do through this process is to prepare you for action. The information you document here is highly personal and requires that you are honest with yourself. It’s up to you to take the actions required to succeed. write down as many words or phrases as you can think of to describe yourself in each of the five areas of life: faith. relationships. is the discipline to think through and document the steps. In preparation for developing your vision for each life area. Reflection Exercise Using this sheet or your journal.areas and sets the steps for you to move forward successfully. Chapter 6 Your Purpose Through Faith
Faith is the foundational life area. It is the basis for each of the other four. Your entire perspective on life is rooted in who and/or what you believe. That perspective then drives your approach to life, how you practice your faith and how you live out the other four life areas. If you believe God exists then your thoughts concerning what life is about is very different from one who doesn’t believe God exists. And even among those who do believe God exists, viewpoints about the purpose of life differ based on who you think God is and what your relationship to Him should be if you think you need one at all. For the Christian believer, most of us embrace that life is about serving God through Jesus Christ. But even viewpoints differ among Christians about what
serving God means. For the record, let me say that scripture fully supports the view that serving God is first about believing that He is all that He says He is, He will do what He says He will do and then we must do all that He instructs us to do through Jesus Christ and do it in love. If we exist for no more than to please God, then that is our purpose. It is a purpose that must be pursued by faith. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 “Without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Once you know and are confident about what you believe, then your faith will guide you into making right decisions concerning your purpose. Even when circumstances around you try to make you change course, it is by your faith that you will have the strength to stand and keep doing all that God commands. It is through understanding who God really is that you can understand what you are to do and why you are to do it. When you have an understanding, it will be very difficult for you to give up or give in. The church is constantly being challenged by the world. And if you were to look at it, it seems to be getting worse. When you understand your purpose in God, you will begin to understand what you see going on around you. What you see manifesting in the physical earth is but a remnant of what is going on in the heavenlies. Can I share something with you? The spiritual battle we are engaged in is not an individual one. It involves every human being on earth. What we suffer and endure as individuals, including heartbreaks, disappointments, rejection and losses, do not come
just for the sake of causing us pain. You see, satan does whatever he can to not only cause us pain, but to cause us the type of pain he thinks will be most effective against us. But his purpose is not to see you suffer. He can care less about that. What he wants is the outcome of what he thinks that pain will produce in you. If you have not heard me say it plainly before, let me say it plainly now. “Everything in creation has a purpose, even your emotions.” I will tell you what the enemy wants that pain to produce. But let me first back-up to this point. The spiritual battle that is being fought is over your soul, which is your mind, will and emotions. But, it is specifically being fought over your mind. Why? your brain signals the rest of your soul as well as your body. Your body does what your brain tells it to do. Your mind holds everything you’ve ever heard in your lifetime. For example, if your mind is already transformed to hearing and knowing the voice of God, then when He speaks your mind receives it as acceptable and your body acts upon it. Your mind is constantly making decisions. It decides whether you will speak or listen, whether you will go or remain where you are. Your mind makes those decisions based on what you have already decided to believe. What you believe is based on what you have already learned, experienced and accepted. Your mind holds and categorizes everything you’ve ever heard in your lifetime. Ultimately, satan wants to keep as many people as possible out of relationship with God. He knows how the story ends. He doesn’t gain control of the earth and he will finally be destroyed. So, why does he keep fighting the people of the earth? Because he
is jealous of us and the fact that we have a chance to live with God and he does not. He wants to keep you from getting what God said you should have, but he cannot, which is life through Christ Jesus, both here on earth and in the world to come. The war then, is satan against the people of the earth to keep them out of relationship with God. The battlefields are the minds of every human being. satan doesn’t care if you think he exists, that is not his goal. He can care less if you bow down and worship him. That is not his goal. So what is the purpose of the pain you suffer in life? The goal of satan is to make sure you don’t believe in God. He wants to destroy your faith. For it is by faith you are saved. A non-believer comes about in one of three ways: you doubt God exists, Or you doubt that you can or think that you don’t need a relationship with God, Or, you are deceived into thinking you do have a relationship with God when you really don’t (to these God will say, “Depart from Me, I know you not” Matthew 7:23). The enemy’s sole purpose is to get you to change your thinking towards God (As a man thinks in his heart, so is he). This satan wants to use pain to make you a non-believer in one of the three ways I just described. But God counts on you using painful experiences to draw even closer to Him. The enemy wants you to look at the harshness of the experiences you go through. But God wants you to focus on the fact that you made it through, and did so with His help. Remember Job. The whole issue had nothing to do with his losing everything he owned. The point of his experience was to see if he would change his mind
In return. not only what he lost was restored but he gained twice as much besides. he will continue to plant in you one carefully constructed. he was looking for opportunities to plant seeds of doubt. The mind is fertile ground and one seed can produce much. and used it to pray for his friends in obedience to the will of God. He remains married to you. Even if you backslide. for many of us. he has deceived many to the point that they don’t believe anything really good can happen in their life. The enemy is always looking for a way to get in your ear. He understands that if a bad seed is planted in soil that accepts and nurtures it. When Job took what he did have. What saved Job and what brought restoration back in his life was a decision he made in his mind. which was a believing and submitted heart towards God.about God. That decision was to trust God in spite of all he went through and to still do God’s will in spite of the fact that it looked like he had nothing to work with. Keep in mind that our purpose in God is to believe in Him and do what He wants us to do. If you accept the first seed. Yet. With this tactic. Causing Job to lose everything was just the way that satan thought it could be accomplished. Your purpose and your 53 . the enemy doesn’t have to do anything much at all. He just speaks to your mind and you start questioning God. Since you were born. it will produce bad fruit. You see one thing go “wrong” and you start wondering if God is who He says he is or if He even cares about you. strategically planned lie after the other. and if it does happen it won’t last. He promises to bless us beyond what we can even imagine. Of course He cares! He promised never to leave or forsake you.
accept that it is good information but still do something different from what the information indicates they should do.promises go hand-in-hand. or they go back to what they were doing before the phone rang without ever taking the receiver from the one who answered. But it is because He can’t perform them through your doubt. If someone in your household answers the phone and tells you that a certain friend of yours is on the other end. Everyone acts on what they believe in their heart to be true. and actually. should happen for you. This is not because God can’t perform them. your brain is trained to accept that there must be someone on the other end. A person with little or no faith would hear the phone ring and first wonder what the phone ringing might really mean. You had faith in what you were told and acted on it. If you don’t believe that good things could. OR when someone else answers and tells them who is on the other line. When the phone stops ringing because they never picked it up they decide it must have been the wrong number anyway and the call wasn’t meant for them. assuming you trust the one who answered the phone. 54 . Think about that. they won’t. they either sit and stare at the one who informed them about the caller. People with little or no faith refuse to act on the revelation of God’s word in their life. then. If the telephone rings and you hear it. you will pick it up with the expectation of speaking to the person you were told was on the other end of that line. There are people who have good information. Let me use this simple example to demonstrate why things can’t be performed for people with little or no faith. Then they run a number of “what if’s” through their minds trying to figure out who is really calling and why.
This is what walking in faith is all about. that keeps them from acting on what they know to be true. simply through the thoughts we have accepted over time. They know it is God speaking but the truth they hold about themselves overrides what they know to be true about God. if you do get it.At the surface. first of all. it will not manifest. you will regret ever wanting it because it is hard to handle what the relationship gives you when your mind is rooted with bad seeds. they have a deeper rooted belief. you won’t be positioned to keep it. that God loves you and will love you forever without ceasing and without condition. And. your deliverance won’t take root. Acting on what it is you say you believe. If God says you’re healed but you don’t start walking in the wisdom of that healing. there is no God in that thing. you may never get it. and if there is no life in a thing. But in actuality. 55 . it looks like they are just casually choosing to ignore God’s wisdom. Too many of us have become paralyzed. a lack of confidence for example. If God says He’s going to give you the relationship you desire but you don’t walk in patience and prepare yourself for the type of relationship you want. Trust. If God says you’re delivered but you don’t change and start living a delivered lifestyle. What is dead has no life. Then trust Him to care for your needs as you focus on His needs through you. The first and most important part of your faith and actually the core of your faith is trust in God. If you somehow are able to keep it with a wrong mindset. emotionally and physically. James 2:20 proclaims that faith without works is dead.
He is always many steps ahead of the enemy and God can accomplish His purpose by turning the results of the enemy’s tactics to His advantage.If over time you have come to doubt your abilities or think that God doesn’t care for you. That favor comes to make it easier for you to fulfill your purpose. Your faith in God will give you wisdom for every decision and step you must make in order to achieve your purpose. He will keep you in the midst of perfect peace. God can eventually get us to the place where we will hear and receive. It gives you strength to stand and keep pursuing your purpose even when your circumstances would say to give up. you will not respond properly when God tells you what to do. Your Faith Vision Statement 56 . Finally. But God is the ultimate strategist. you may totally miss Him speaking to you all together. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. But you still must decide to receive the Word when He delivers it to you. As a matter of fact. you will come to know and understand what your purpose is and how it fits into the other areas of your life. Through many experiences. Your faith in God provides you with continuous encouragement towards accomplishing your purpose. God knows how to break through years of “garbage” in order for you to hear. Romans 10:17. you will gain peace because God fully supports those that have a heart for what He desires. And as you focus on Him. Your faith in God and accepting His will for your life will grant you great favor with Him and with man. where trouble can’t throw you off course. Through your faith in God. Faith is the very foundation of your purpose.
all knowing. you are expressing a belief that influences your attitudes and behaviors. Writing down your answers is very important because it causes you to think through and commit to your responses. I feel obligated to respect Him and follow His commands as described in the Bible and as He speaks to my heart. how we should treat others and how we should consider ourselves in relation to the rest of the world. or in your journal. Your beliefs are a driver for what you can or should achieve in the other four areas of life. I also believe that I should work to use the gifts and 57 . The objective is that you clearly lay out the points and fundamentals of your belief. Even by not believing in something or someone. Writing down your beliefs goes beyond saying you are a religious person in order to communicate that you believe in God. I believe I should walk in peace and love with others as much as it is possible for me to do so.We start with Faith because this is the area in which many of us carry our most fundamental beliefs: that is. This is a simpler and shorter process now that you have documented your vision. if in your relationships your vision is to be the parent of five happy children. When we speak of health we are considering both.Chapter 7 Your Purpose Through Health To this point. When He created Eve. Paul. I will share how your health plays a role in your purpose. God created Adam and put him in the garden with a specific purpose. we have discussed what purpose really is and how you can find yours. Now. In the beginning. before the fall of man. or their goal. He was to work and take care of it.
that is the instrument God uses to accomplish His purpose in the earth through you. So. Ephesians 4 tells us that we are all part of one body. the body of Christ. they are instructed to warn those among them that are idle. In chapter 5. And everything in creation has a unique purpose. Ephesians 2:10 says. and the five-fold ministry gifts are in place to prepare God’s people for works of service in building up the body of Christ. The dictionary definition of work is the effort made to do something or make something come about. created in Christ Jesus for good works. 70 . By doing so they would win respect from outsiders and they would not be dependent on anyone. It also lets us know that the whole body. As a musical instrument is played to produce a sound pleasing to the musician. will grow and be built up in love through Christ as each part of the body does its work. verse 14. Romans 6:13 tells us not to yield the parts of our bodies as instruments to sin but rather yield the parts of our bodies as instruments of righteousness. Your purpose requires work and work requires action. which God prepared before-hand to be our way of life. Whatever your purpose is from God. those who are not working. It is an act or action taken. What is an instrument? It is something that is used to get something else done.” We were created by God to work towards fulfilling the purposes He planned for each of us. to mind their own business and to work with their hands. that “…we are what He has made us. it requires that you work. including your brain. it is your physical body. to encourage those who are afraid to step out and do the work and help those that are too weak to do the work alone. of which we are a part. some part of your body must be in movement. In order for action to happen.quiet life.
Jesus was greatly grieved because He knew the time for His crucifixion was upon Him. As you may know. James and John to the garden of Gethsemane to provide support to Him as He prayed. For after Jesus goes off alone. In Matthew 26:40-41. Going back to Romans 12: 2. the physical flesh is weak.so too. then you can test and approve 71 . This is why He warns them in verse 41. Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies to God as holy and acceptable living sacrifices unto God in order to please Him. He comes back to find them asleep. they were also at risk of their flesh leading them into other types of temptations. Your health. plays that critical role in fulfilling your purpose. No doubt. Once you do that. that even though their spirit is willing to do the work. it is not enough to have a willing spirit. We can only please God with this sacrifice if our body is positioned to do what God requires of it. that is the well-being of your mind and body. The first step to incorporating your purpose into the health life area is to have the right mindset. If they were not in condition to command their flesh to stay awake. But their bodies were not prepared to do this simple task. it tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Your body and mind must also be prepared to act out the will of the Spirit. Jesus takes Peter. Jesus was disheartened seeing that His friends weren’t able to command their bodies to simply stay awake at such a critical time. He simply asked them to stay and keep watch with Him. God prepared us to produce works pleasing to Him. So. The right mindset is one in which your overall focus is on doing the will of God.
The first step in mental preparation is to gain the knowledge or knowhow that still may be lacking. When your heart and mind are focused on service to God. You do whatever work your purpose requires. It may also require asking questions of or being mentored by others that have done similar things. This may require reading books or journals that relate to your purpose. then your desire will turn towards pleasing Him. Once you come to know Him.what God’s will is for your life. He intends for us to study and learn what we can from them so we don’t have to go through the same long process of experience that they went through. then your efforts must be turned to fulfilling it through physical action. God uses that saved time to help you accomplish your purpose more quickly and 72 . Philippians 2:13 says this. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. As I said earlier. it will be much easier to determine what His purpose is for you. God has revealed certain things to individuals throughout history. the way to know what your purpose is first to know what you have. Now any successful work requires mental organization and physical action. Come to really know Him. Once you are assured of your purpose.” The strong desires you have to do certain good things are from God. The urge you have to act upon doing those good things is also from God. But this can be properly discerned only when your mind is transformed towards serving Him by doing His will. Knowledge is important. Knowledge is gaining know-how through the experiences of others. then get intimate with God and build a relationship with Him.
find it. Finally. It also helps you find important resources and the people or situations you are meant to impact.” Knowledge gives you the facts. This is why Proverbs 4:7 says that wisdom is the principal thing. you don’t want to get your understanding that way. You also want to have knowledge of what is going on in the world around you. Understanding is seeing things from God’s perspective. both are important. God will reveal how you are to use what you have learned. This is not so you can worry about it but so that you can better understand the importance of your particular purpose. It is seeing things as though you were standing right under and looking in the same direction as the one you are trying to understand.” and Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. The next step in mental preparation is getting wisdom over the knowledge you have gained. get an understanding of what you must do to fulfill your purpose. 73 .effectively. Proverbs 8:17 says. It can also come from moving in disobedience. but wisdom provides revelation and truth about the facts you have learned. Understanding comes from moving in obedience. He will also reveal the parts of what you have learned that will work for you and how they will work. “all that seek wisdom. Understanding comes from acting upon the wisdom God has given you over the knowledge of your purpose. but in this season. He will also reveal the parts of what you have learned that you must improve upon in order for the next person to be more effective. and lean not to your own understanding. If there is no knowledge then there is nothing to provide wisdom over. So.
With understanding. if exercise is what you need to get your body prepared to do God’s will. But it is still fruitful. Just that in relationship to godliness it doesn’t mean as much. we all need to do some form of exercise to keep the parts of our bodies in functioning order. It is a part of godliness for you. make sure you mentally prepare yourself for purpose by gaining knowledge. you will know that there is truly nothing impossible to God and that if you just believe it. you would never worry another day in your life. It will guide every decision you make. So. that is the “big picture”. 74 . and with all thy getting. God’s wisdom is supreme. there then is nothing impossible to you. But understanding will keep you on track. get understanding. “for bodily exercise profits little but godliness is profitable unto all things…” The scripture does not say exercise is unprofitable. So. then you must evaluate how ready you are. it would blow your mind. physical action is necessary to perform it. they don’t have to control you but you have the control over them. All work requires some type of action. Once you know what your purpose physically requires. So. I Timothy 4:8 says. you would not be moved by any circumstance because you would understand the truth about circumstances. And quite honestly. If you could see your life from a Godly point of view.therefore get wisdom. you must add physical preparation. If you have understanding. If you really tap in and see things the way God sees them. know what is physically required to accomplish your purpose. To your mental preparation. getting the wisdom over that knowledge and then understanding your role in the body from God’s perspective. then that’s what you must do. Though the spiritual then mental knowledge is most important. first.
that should not hinder you from achieving your purpose. Finally. discovered remedies. there is general physical discomfort in sitting for long periods and having to be focused on the road. Now. you go directly to the source of healing and wisdom to get direction and help. not to mention the effort required to move through airports with baggage. Of all that you say you must do. Your eating habits must also address your body’s needs for the particular type of work you must do. For example. the body needs to be in shape to handle these variations without becoming easily worn out. If you have some type of long term infirmity. compare that list to where you are today. Even if you are physically disabled in some way. In this case. anyway. If you drive. So. regardless of man-made. to meet those requirements. Travel is very physically demanding. So. descend and move at certain speeds. 75 . set a plan to make changes that take you from where you are today to where you physically need to be in order to succeed. work with them and use them to help you get prepared for purpose. work with your doctor to do what is necessary to get your body in the best physical shape it can possibly be in. If you fly a lot. say your purpose requires a lot of travel. it just means that God hasn’t revealed the solution to them at this point. That should always be your first step. your body is constantly going through different degrees of gravitational pulls as you ascend. Evaluate how ready you are.today. God has revealed knowledge to physicians and researchers as how to put certain substances together to alleviate certain types of pain or to destroy certain illnesses in your body. if in anything they say they can’t help you.
if your mind is wrought with worry. You may have to refine your social calendar or eliminate some of your activities. and your body was made for His purpose. We talked some about the first two items. God is the only one who keeps His eyes open at all times. I Corinthians 6:12-20 plainly makes this point. God rested on the 7th day of creation. God requires and commands rest. Without rest. Your body was not created to go non-stop. exercising in a way most appropriate for your body’s needs and getting rest. Without the proper amount of rest. your body and your mind cannot perform at their best. God cannot do His best through you. Even when you lay down. But too little rest is very taxing on the body. Any activity that is not lined up with your purpose should be eliminated. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost. He commanded that the Israelites rest on the 7th day and He even required that the land they used to raise crops be given a year of rest. Proper diet. you will open yourself up to illness. Too much rest is idleness. and that’s not good. exercise and rest are what’s needed to be mentally and physically prepared to accomplish your purpose. not yours. so let’s talk some about rest. anyway. Here is what you don’t do. we must honor Him with 76 . You need to rest. You are not your own. you will not get rest. Don’t pollute or harm your body. They are the place where the Spirit of God resides. Since we were bought with a price and belong to God. Himself. If you press to do your work without proper rest. James and John. You belong to God.There are three key parts to setting a physical plan. Your body and mind will be strained and limited. who fell asleep at Christ’s greatest hour of need for you. Eating right for your body’s needs. because you don’t want to be like Peter. It lets us know that our physical bodies are part of Christ. Now.
If at any point you cannot make a good or wise decision because you don’t have full control of your members. Therefore. especially for believers. we cannot fill them with foods that don’t edify it.these bodies. It is also good doctrine not to drink alcohol because it impacts your decision-making ability. you are intermingling your purpose with theirs. yes. can’t starve it trying to make it look like we think someone else wants it to look. This is why. Obedience pleases God. you experience extreme guilt and confusion when you have sex outside of marriage. When you physically join with someone outside of your purpose and take on their life’s fluids. If you fall. will use the guilt to keep you from functioning and your confusion will keep you distracted. This is also why many prostitutes look haggard and worn down. When intercourse takes place body fluids are exchanged. but you will lose valuable time and may miss opportunities that were placed on your course during the time you were off trying to find your way back to it. They are in place to help you stay free so you can accomplish His will and live in peace. satan. because it implies that you understand who He is and what He requires of and 77 . And many of those foreign fluids don’t inter-act well with each other. which carry the other person’s DNA (or makeup). God’s rules are not in place to keep you from enjoying life. we likewise. Likewise. Those body fluids. Their bodies are full of multiple fluids that are not their own. remain in your system. The enemy. can you get back on course again? Most of the time. intercourse outside of marriage is a bad idea and sin. you are open to falling off God’s course for your life.

These 85 . those to whom you are connected or bonded. and those to whom you give advice. we are speaking of the people you know. purpose is the result or impact you are meant to have on the people or situations you come in contact with or that come into contact with the work of your hands. That being said. even the wicked for the day of evil. each relationship you choose to have is meant to achieve some godly purpose in you and the one with whom you are in relationship. people whose advice you respect and accept. Everything and everyone in creation has a unique purpose designed by the mind and hand of God.
organ and vessel is perfectly connected allowing the blood to flow throughout the entire system. even as every part works together in love. When your life is not focused on pursuing purpose you risk interrupting the blood supply to the body of Christ. which is the head. When the body is rightly joined 86 . Paul. When everything is properly connected. Relationship is the word we use to describe our connections in the body. life. Ephesians 4:16 tells us that from Christ. We are all connected.relationships come in many forms. Every joint. acquaintances and work relationships. As the blood flows. It is by the Holy Spirit that we are instructed and inspired to supply others and to be supplied by others. This is yet another reason knowing your purpose and pursuing it is so vitally important. lets us know that the body of Christ is properly built when each joint is connected in the right spot and working in the right way to supply what it’s supposed to supply. that is the nutrients the blood delivers. in this passage. the rest of the body is fitly joined together and secured by every joint supplying what it has been apportioned or assigned to provide. Consider the human body. It is through the blood of Christ that we have life in Him and are reconciled to God. Each one of these relationships has a purpose in your life. the body grows. Relationship is your being rightly connected to the right parts that are. can circulate throughout the entire system. likewise. and that by doing so. There are family. it deposits nutrients that keep the body alive and removes things the body no longer needs. spousal and parental relations. rightly connected to other parts of the body. Think it not strange that Christ is the head and it is by the shedding of His blood that we have the opportunity to be saved. close friendships.
If the aid does not come quickly. won’t your hand quickly move to comfort it? If you cut your finger. The head immediately notices that a part is in trouble and it dispatches other body parts to support it until it is healed or until outside help arrives.together and every joint is doing its part. uninterrupted. but here is the problem in the manifestation. You might say that does not seem to be the case. However. First. or you may have personal experience which you may want to offer to dispute this fact. and then cleanse and bandage it? Your brain is constantly moving in rapid motion to dispatch help to ailing parts. If you stump your toe. won’t your other hand apply pressure to prevent the loss of blood. God perfectly prepares each one of us to fulfill His purpose through experiences He allows and wisdom He imparts. However. damaged connections hinder the flow and broken connections stop it. Christ knows your pain and struggles and signals other parts of the body to come to your aid. So it is in the body of Christ. What I said is true. when we allow ourselves to be distracted with circumstances and fires that flare up in our lives. the parts that are supposed to help have not positioned themselves to respond. the issue is one of the following three. God immediately knows of your trouble if you are connected to Him. The natural body automatically responds to broken or damaged parts. and He immediately dispatches help to you until you are restored. This is in 87 . the Spirit and purposes of God can manifest. we often miss God nudging us to address His needs which often involves the needs of others.
Instead of worrying about the issues that may be present in your life. This acknowledgement should be complemented by action that prevents you from missing the voice of God. you focus your attention on God and His will. By giving thanks you acknowledge that whatever happens in your life is for your good and your making as long as you are a part of the body. Because God loves us and has patience with us He 88 . The second thing that could happen when it seems you don’t receive immediate help from God when you are in need is that the parts of the body respond but you don’t recognize or want to receive the help that is being offered. we pre-suppose what the solution should be so that when we pray we ask God for the cure that we want instead of the cure He already knows we need. He has imparted that power and authority to you by His spirit and the circumstances you face are controlled by Him. A mind stayed on God. why we are to trust the Lord with all our heart and mind. should keep you from being self-absorbed either with low self-esteem at one extreme or arrogance on the other. Because we misdiagnose. Many times we look at our circumstances and we misdiagnose what is happening. which can prevent God from circulating healing and deliverance through you. 5:18).part. It is an acknowledgement that God holds all power and authority in His hands. and not yourself. The scripture also tells us that in everything we are to give thanks unto God for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning each of us (I Thess. Your giving thanks in every situation and circumstance is your expression of faith. and not lean to our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). Many of us get upset over what we see going on with our natural eyes instead of seeing the bigger picture through our spiritual eyes.
He leads us to be in certain places at given times and to do certain things when we get there. How many times have you seen people come to church for deliverance. By keeping your mind on God and remaining prayerful through difficult times. but instead of letting God give us the words to say that might comfort. practice going immediately to God first when a troubling situation arises. We sometimes get upset at His solution or we think He did not answer us. edify or exhort them. though. we speak to them instead from our storage of religious legalism. Stop. The third thing that can happen when you need help but don’t seem to get it right away is that the responding parts are sitting in judgment instead of aiding the ailing parts. attend service a few times and then you never see them again? Many of us just assume that they weren’t serious about making a commitment to God or that they rejected you and your church 89 . you will better recognize God’s answers to your dilemmas. when some of us see a brother or sister caught in a fault we think twice about whether or not to help them. Think about it. If you don’t do so now. step back and ask God. The solution here is the same. “What is this situation all about?” and He will give you the peace and direction to deal with it appropriately. Don’t go to the telephone to call a friend or complain to the closest body you can find. God is always directing our every step. So. leading us to feel as though He doesn’t care for or hear us when we call. accept salvation. instead of being helpful we actually just hurt and discouraged.provides the cure we need instead of what we want. Strangely. Some of us move forward to help.
or we want to look at their background and their current state and say they belong in this box with everyone else like “this”. but your judgment of him is far worse than the sin he may be committing. That reconciliation happens through the building up of the body of Christ. So. Why is our judgment of others worse than the “everyday sin”? Remember. Matthew 7:3 says. So what is judgment? It is a criticism or formed opinion. the overall purpose of God is to have his people reconciled back to Him through Christ. and then by you. But God created unique individuals to work in His vineyard called the earth. Consider Matthew 7:1-5. But it is vitally important that each person feels wanted first of all by God. Your approach should always be one of love and compassion. This familiar scripture tells us to judge not lest we be judged by the same measure. and the body is built up by the laborers who are bringing in the 90 . The truth of the matter is that in their minds. With most relationships we want to say this person is like this or that. We can’t be quick to categorize others even though we have been trained to put people into boxes. not of condemnation.because of a greater desire to be in their former situation. Your motives toward them need to be pure. It’s not only important to make someone feel welcome when they come to your ministry (remember they are not there by accident or chance). the church rejected them. what you might say to encourage one may greatly discourage another. No two grapes are ever the same. “Why are you looking at the speck of dust in your brother’s eye when you have a large plank in your own?” This particular verse makes it plain that yes your brother may be caught in a fault. Your desire for them should be to help them become reconciled to God.
but they came because they thought you could help them find God. So now. and just about the time they realize that they are not a part of the “in-crowd” and will probably never be is when you start seeing less and less of them until they go back to where they came from. Then they turn around and watch your lifestyle and your conversation with others. and how they now need to go through your ten steps for being truly accepted and loved by God. you have actually helped to throw them out of the body. God goes through the careful strategic effort of putting people through the experiences of life that leads them to the place where they decide after suffering enough brokenness. God is fiercely protective of His purpose in you and in those that have yet to be reconciled to Him. you want to know all about their past mistakes and remind them how bad their past was and how bad they are for having “wasted” so much time in sin. and/or strife that her rightful place is in Christ. you don’t share the love of God with them. You have actually worked against the ultimate purpose of God.harvest. But when they get to you. God wants 91 . you will bruise it. confusion. So God gets them to you. There is a reason Christ refers to the lost souls as a harvest. beat it down with a stick or squeeze it too tightly. If you’ve ever picked fruits or vegetables. because He trusts you to wisely win their soul to Christ. They come to you or your ministry for help. They did not come for you. you know that you have to handle the fruit carefully. If you rip it off the branch. Instead. instead of helping another lost soul find their proper position in the body. They observe who’s part of the “in-crowd” and who’s not.
us to handle lost souls with the greatest of care so that once they’re picked they can be put to His good use. The enemy stands before God and accuses you. hands down a decision in your favor because of your stance in Christ. and eventually. being you as the laborer. The second is so that you as the laborer win a favorable decision in the court of heaven concerning your petitions. give her another chance. the saints would grow strong enough to defeat him every time. weaken their faith or puff them up so that 92 . You say God can and God will but no one. All disobedience does take you off the path to your blessings and promises. not even you. but in that re-routing you may experience things that drive you straight to your knees to prevent you from walking in disobedience again. can see the manifestation of it. the harvest will dry up and sour on the vine. This is what drives you to your knees for revelation and repentance. confusion and more distraction. you confess things and your testimony gets muddied because it does not come to pass. in His mercy. fall away. If he spent all his time on the sinner. You pray for things and don’t get them. Why do you think the enemy fights you and not the sinner? Because he knows that if he can mess up the conduit to Christ. but your blessings are held up because you have to be re-routed back onto the path of blessing. Did you not know the harvest has multiple purposes? The first is so that the lost soul can find its place in the body of Christ. But Christ is ever before God saying. You get another chance to do it right. He doesn’t destroy you. The devil tries to use your “witness” to prove that your motives are not pure and then label you with guilt. But if he can mislead some of the saints. God. Because He loves you. telling Him that you are not worthy of being blessed because you won’t obey God because you judge instead of help the unbeliever.
and we also have a role in helping to keep those that are already in place in good working condition. 93 . Being able to converse honestly. It is for your deliverance. but are facing some obvious and visible issues. It is better to keep silent and it’s best to pray. don’t do it again. Ask Him for understanding of what you should have done differently. and repent of your wrong. So it is with the saints who are already a part of the body. This is why it is important to yield to the leading of the Spirit when you are encouraged to attend church regularly.they judge instead of producing healing. it will eventually impact the entire body in some way. but sometimes He may just bring a moment or circumstance to your remembrance. Sometimes it will be no. the first question to ask is. When you are called to support a broken or damaged part of the body. is it me?” and be open to hear His answer. Judging others is one of the worst things you could ever do. The harvest of souls is those that have a place in the body but are not in position yet. not judgment. Each of us has some role through our purpose in helping to get those parts in place. Paul taught us that the body builds itself up in love. he can keep more lost souls and gain some of the saints as well. Remember. If things are not going like you planned. reverently and consistently with God and being open to receive whatever He says is the very essence of good relationship with Him. do you do it in love or must you first judge the broken part? Our connection in the body of Christ is such that if the broken part is not fixed. “God. That means. fast and/or pray.
flows the wisdom to know what a particular relationship is for.Every relationship you choose to have should have a purpose that you are aware of. and when He can trust you to obey Him when He speaks. your relationships are often the targets of your purpose. then you will be in the perfect position to judge the rightness of your relationships. But how can you rightly evaluate whether or not you are to be in certain relationships? The first and most important step is having a secure. Because once you know your God-given purpose. They are often the doors to experiences that sharpen and build in you the knowledge and maturity needed. From God. how long you should be in it and whether or not you should be in it at all. knowledge and support to others. Your relationships can supply you with the information and encouragement to accomplish your purpose. as I have already implied. In other words. and when God has your ear and can reach you at any time and in the midst of any circumstance. Once you know your purpose. From this relationship flows the wisdom to have and to manage every other relationship in your life. encouragement. 94 . relationship with God. you should wear your relationships loosely enough to move on if God says so. and only God. it may require that you shift out of some relationships and join in covenant with others that are not compatible with relationships you may already have. Finally. as God positions you to provide value. you can judge your relationships by whether or not they fit with what it is you know you are to do with your life. don’t come into covenant. with anyone unless you know what your purpose is and how that person fits into it. Until you get into this position. not just a passing. which is strong and lasting commitment. When you have a heart submitted and committed to God. what type of relationship it should be.
This would be easy enough if we all are starting with a clean slate.If you have strong emotional or soul ties with people you are not supposed to be in covenant with. Jesus went to his house for dinner. Because time is of the essence in the kingdom of God. you may suffer great emotional conflict between what you know God wants you to do and what your flesh or soul man wants you to keep. It takes a mind open to receive the word of God to understand His purpose in relationships. Jesus and the other disciples found themselves at dinner with them as well. Out of His relationship with Matthew. Even today many religious people would tell new converts to immediately break away from their old friends. you don’t want to waste valuable time trying to decide whether or not to obey God in letting go of some of the people in your life. We first have to evaluate relationships properly. and then told them to go learn what it meant in Hosea 6:6 when God said I desire mercy not sacrifice. Connections we need to transition away from are still 95 . But since we are not. But because Matthew was connected to tax collectors and sinners. Matthew’s connections created new connections for Christ. Matthew 9:9-13 tells us how Jesus joined Himself to Matthew. we need to know how to transition from a “wrong” relationship into right relationship with as minimal an impact as possible. or spend valuable time trying to get over having to let them go. The Pharisees judged the new connections wrongly. But Jesus let them know that it was not the healthy but the sick that needed a physician. criticizing Jesus for associating Himself with sinners.
the Pharisees felt they had already “arrived” because of their title and position and thus were above the people they were meant to serve.people who need to know the love of Christ and His purposes for their lives. Finally. But Jesus always stayed focused on purpose. You see. there will be some people you need to connect to that you might at first think you should run away from. could never be as “righteous” as they. After he shared Jesus. In this same passage of Matthew. He recognized His responsibility to God according to His covenant relationship with Him. an opportunity to find salvation. This is one example of how to transition. He would not allow Himself to be. also. Even if He wanted to be moved by their criticism. Instead of immediately dismissing his old friends. he introduced them to Jesus giving them. Jesus was saying that God desires relationship with a person whose heart is right towards Him and not the religious sacrifices which can be done outwardly without a sincere heart. he left them all to pursue his new life with Christ. share the opportunity for others to do the same. Matthew had come into a new and right relationship with Christ. In his transition. in their minds. Matthew had a good heart and through that his friends. It did not matter to Him how others criticized His actions. though sinners at first. They believed that those in their position should not associate with those they considered unholy and who. When you find Christ and His will for your life. Jesus said that He came not to call the righteous but rather sinners to repentance. could be won to Christ. Then when you move on they at least have a better understanding that the move was because of where you must go in Christ and not because of any ill will towards them. The weight of the responsibility to His 96 .
So. But many of us lose that opportunity because we can’t hold a basic casual conversation with them for being so holy and afraid. it’s not about your religious sacrifices and performances but it’s about exhibiting the heart and character of God towards everyone. even if friends and relations don’t understand your need to shift into a new way of life. The first part of having an effective witness is living the life you say you live. you must still keep your commitment to God by living in obedience to what He called you to do. Yet. today. When we become more like Christ in our witness. who we are supposed to witness to effectively. Many times we stay away from people we should connect with because we feel their sinful ways will contaminate us. we will look more like Him and attract nearly everyone we meet. But when we line our lives up on the foundation of God’s unfailing love towards all people. 97 .relationship with God far outweighed any loss of credibility with people who were too puffed up and arrogant to be open to change. As Jesus told the disciples. So our witnesses get tainted and nothing about our life looks attractive to the sinners around us. some of us have no real experience with this because we are too busy keeping the sacrifices burning. our lives will be more peaceful and satisfying. then you know you have a lot more relationship building with God to do so that you can be strong enough to effectively witness to those in need. There are people on our jobs. Unfortunately. That may mean associating with people others consider undesirable. If that is a legitimate concern you have. we wonder why we are stagnant in the same job working with the same people we just can’t stand to work with.
He reminds them that He kept 98 . God lets them know that of all the families of the earth. He chose to make a covenant with them. Once that covenant relationship is in place. you will have many opportunities in your communications with them to share the love of Christ without condemning. “can two walk together except they be agreed?” This agreement is having the same heart and similar motive and with complementary. But if you shut the door before you start by being too spiritual. He who has friends must first show himself friendly. If you know your purpose and keep purpose in mind. If they reach out to you on a non-spiritual basis respond with the same basic kindness. purposes. then you can rightly judge your other relationships. When evaluating your relationships one of the key questions to ask yourself is whether or not that relationship threatens your relationship with God. Proverbs 11:30. Amos 3:1-3 says. He who wins souls is wise. how do you evaluate the rightness of your relationships with both the people in the body of Christ and with those that have the potential to be in the body? As I said earlier. it will be much easier to win them to Christ down the road. So. you have to first have a right relationship with God. If you can first make a casual friend. intimidating or repulsing your hearers. not necessarily the same. you may not get an opportunity to share the truth or plant a good seed that someone else can water. A friend’s advice is trusted over that of a stranger or an adversary.The second part of having an effective witness is being touchable. The question is raised in this passage because the Israelites have begun to serve other gods and pursue their own desires. You can’t shun the kindness or friendship of sinners.
This new connection to unholy ways and things threatened the very purpose of God through Israel. More obvious is when one person is obviously receiving great benefit and the other person is actually weakened through the relationship. In a covenant relationship both parties agree to supply and receive from each other towards building each other up. God is shaking out the junk and pulling His people out of relationships that are distracting them from purpose. if you truly have a heart for God and you are in a relationship that threatens His purpose through you. But instead they connected themselves with foul. the agreement has been breached and the covenant is ineffective. in His anger cuts them off. Another way to evaluate your relationships is to look at the circulation or flow between you and the other person. But if one does all the supplying and never receives anything beneficial from the other.His part of the covenant. unholy and lifeless gods. Especially at this time in the earth. God severs their connection and leaves them open to disaster. Since they came out of agreement. All they had to do was serve Him only and follow His decrees. God. Because there is circulation when there is connection and God will not contaminate Himself. Prayerfully consider whether or not that relationship is assisting you in purpose or working to destroy God’s purpose through you. Today. 99 . This is why He says two can’t walk together if they don’t agree. It’s better if you stop yourself and take some time here in the near future to evaluate every relationship that you have. make preparation for that relationship to come to an end. but they did not keep theirs.
Nor can you lay your hands on just anything. This is why you. those become idols and strange gods in your life. But slowly. over time. threaten your purpose. Again. God had to disassociate Himself from Solomon. because of the circulation involved in covenant. If in this situation. which work against His plans. Reaffirm your commitment to Jesus so that you will not lose your secure position with Christ and your purpose will not be thwarted. as a believer. meaning to let it go. his sin. turn away and not do it again. what do you do if you find that you are already in wrong relationships? How do you get out of them? The way to get out of them with the least amount of pain is to ask God for His divine guidance in cutting off those things you recognize are not of Him and that go against His purpose in your life. wrong relationship. he was deceived and pulled away by one thing. Wrong relationships. adversely affected everyone He was connected to including the entire kingdom of Israel. It 100 . So why fight a battle that you can’t win? Why fight God at all when you can live a life of peace by setting plans that line up with His will? The key to being successful is not based on your ability to plan. and your plans will succeed.
For example. the same applies if God tells you to wait a year before making application. the provision of cash or favor will be there in time to meet the need in the following year. In His perfect wisdom. The battle you will then face is questioning your purpose when the issue is not your purpose. you may have a strong desire to develop a cure for lung cancer. you can expect to meet your provision as you go if you don’t have it all upfront. which is to apply. If God says wait. If He says go forward. detailed strategies for what you need to do within the next year or so towards reaching your goal. By the time you receive the acceptance letter. Your response should be to trust the voice of God. but rather your timing. you make a more general long term plan for as far out as the light allows you to see.lamp. But you can’t afford the cost of tuition based on what you see in your current circumstance. This detailed revelation is the lamp light. When you plan. 116 . and you know how to pursue the education you need in order to be positioned for that. But God gives you enough for the deposit and He instructs you to move forward. Now. but you develop more specific. The same is true if you wait when God says go forward. Then He gives you ideas that will generate additional income or opens the door for grants that will assist you. Each time you take a step in obedience to God. but you go ahead and apply out of zeal. you may get rejected or the finances will not be there at the required time. you still may not have all you need for tuition. Along your path you will meet with the provision He has placed there for you. He is putting things in order so that your path will be smooth. He may say go ahead and apply this year and He gives you just enough money for the application fee and the entrance exam. but you will never know or see that if you don’t take the first act of obedience.
If the way you engage in competition is in conflict with God’s will and His way. Avoid the temptation to focus on climbing the corporate ladder rather than fulfilling your purpose through your position. you know His purpose for you and you have a desire for a promotion then go through your company’s established process to get it. This is a simple thing to say. is His will and His plan that will prevail. If you focus on the corporate climb you can easily be caught in a cycle of competition that will have you going titfor-tat with fellow employees. How you receive man’s rejection is of great importance. Don’t be discouraged. If other employees work against you in ways that are underhanded or deceitful. If you don’t get it after doing what was right. but rather it’s the way you compete that can be an issue. you are setting yourself up for a downfall and failure from which God gets no glory. then it was not fitting for your purpose for you to have it at that moment. Because He loves you. If your heart is right with God. but it can be a very 117 . I didn’t say you should not compete. you acknowledge that thing at that time was not on your plan of purpose. praise God just the same. Stand your ground.As you pursue your purpose through your career beware a few of the pitfalls. For it. and the door to something seemingly better does not open for you. By doing so. He will not open a door for you that will take you off course or cause you to stumble. in fact. do what is right in the sight of God and man. Understand how God works. and most of us know it already. Remember that your actions and behaviors are a witness. and wait to see what God allows. don’t engage them in their folly. If you have been faithful over what you already have in your hands.
It is a way of telling us that we do not have the value the world is looking for. that which you take may actually move 118 . When we are rejected by man. What makes it difficult is how the world views and how it has taught us to view rejection. if you lay your hands on something to take it before God gives it. Understand your promise. according to the covenant relationship you have with God. He. always. God’s “no” is His way of saying. God is saying to us that we are too valuable to Him and the kingdom to be distracted or misused by that position. their house. Never desire what someone else has. the truth behind man’s rejection is this. in fact. We have been taught that rejection is a “vote of no confidence”. Not necessarily larger or prettier. Because. This is why we are not to covet. their spouse. When you take hold of possessions or relationships rather than receiving them from God. I know. But don’t go after what you see. God gives you the provision to fulfill it as you move forward on that path. As you pursue your submitted plan. is saying that you don’t value yourself enough. you will meet with your promises. their lifestyle. but the benefits and joy from what He gives will be greater than you imagine. However.difficult thing to accept.
you may stall. when you get weary and can’t find a place to rest. have the same amount of trees and. Then you remember that God said go up on the left. by the way. Again. However. along with everyone else. So you decide that you must have heard wrong and start going up the mountain on the right. Say you have before you two mountains and God says climb the mountain on the left. there is ample food and water for you. You can only receive them in the order they were planted as you progress forward on the path that God ordains. even outside the normal processes. and have to fight and bargain with others over the little food that was found on that mountain. That confusion can then prevent forward movement. everyone else is going up the mountain on the right. whether you see the provision or not. moving in obedience is important. and you do your work in excellence. So. You stop moving all together while you are questioning and trying to figure it all out. The provision and the promises are already there planted in their proper place by God. Then the lack of success in something you thought should be successful can bring spiritual confusion. walk through the valley to get to the mountain on the left and begin to climb. Although the pitch of the 119 . you begin to question God. you go down the mountain on the right. But you size the mountains up and determine that they are the same size. If you do your best with what you have to work with. God will put the right people along your path to recognize and promote you.you off course and out of line for your provision and promises. not the right. Now you can see that with fewer people. “Your gift will make room for you” (Proverbs 18:6). When you try to make things happen before God certifies that they are ready.

In other words. and since He will far exceed your expectations. then ask yourself why you want the position? Is it because you want the wealth or prestige that it will bring to you? Proverbs 23:4-5 tells us not to wear ourselves out trying to get rich. At this point you have a choice. When you get there. Deuteronomy 8:18 says that it is God that gives us power to get wealth in order to establish the covenant with us. If you can’t wait on God. It also says don’t bother to focus on it. don’t wallow in shame because Jesus also died to defeat guilt and shame along with its sins. The only way you can receive that power is by knowing Him and being on the right path to receive it when He gives it. and it goes away. God not only 120 .mountain seemed to be the same as the other. If you find yourself stalled and discover you’re on the wrong mountain. The sum of it all is. Focus on your purpose. you’ll miss the joy of going up the mountain on the left. If you waste your time beating yourself up over going up the mountain on the right at first. you’ll miss the beauty of God that is evident on the left. not your position. put your focus on the One that never goes away and never leaves. it may require that you do things that are out of the norm. Make sure that you’re doing the right thing and not the expected thing. If your head is hung in shame over going up on the right now that you see how much easier it is on the left mountain. It is God who establishes rulers.

I had a brief period in life when I struggled 134 . These things we must do not only to honor but to show faith in God as our provider. tithing. I am a living witness that His promise is still active today.to be in order so you are prepared to act and fulfill your purpose at the appointed time without coming up short. offerings and alms. No one wants a gift that is not from the heart. He said that He would rebuke the devourer for our sake and open up windows of heaven to pour out blessings on us that we don’t have room to receive. In the Old Testament it was to sustain the priests or Levites who had dedicated themselves to the service of the Lord. Paying the tithe affirms our covenant with God and acknowledges Him as the source of all our increase. whether you believe it is commanded of Christians or not. God’s Word stands forever. if he spoke it then it still has effect today. there are some biblical requirements that we must follow such as giving to the work of the Kingdom in the form of tithes. not out of compulsion or resistance.
peace and so much more. I nearly lost everything including favor. The Bible says whoever is kind to the needy honors God. When I repented and went back to tithing. It’s not about the people. Even in times where I was making only $20-$40 per week I tithed and gave an offering because of covenant with God and my trust in Him. I stopped paying for just one month and all sorts of things went wrong for me financially. although there should be fiscal responsibility and accountability in the church. Offerings. my favor was renewed and God sustained and protected me and my whole house. There are so many scriptures that exhort us to help those that are less fortunate because when you do you are blessing God. the first fruit and thanksgiving offerings. I don’t see how anyone can enjoy the blessings of God and not be willing to give to support the ongoing of His ministry. Money was never meant to be an obstacle between you and God. I tried Him (Malachi 3:10) and He kept his word. favor. He. I was restored. kept blessing and opening doors for me so my life was restored. So it is automatically a part of each of our plans to achieve purpose. placed in our lives and yet has to show us about life. Can we not joyfully give from the means He has provided to keep ministry alive and well? Finally. It is meant to be the vehicle by which you fulfill the will of God. alms is critical. Even unbelievers practice this principle and find themselves financially blessed. are also to be given as a show of gratitude to God for all He has done in our lives. in return.financially and someone advised me that I did not have to pay tithes during that time. 135 . God blesses us with health. opportunity.
These types of things help to increase your knowledge and broaden your network in addition to the immediate pleasure you gain. shelter and transportation. the greatest times of their lives are when they do quality things with their parents. Investing in experience is also important. Those are the basic needs. Whatever it is you choose to do. For children. There is a purpose for those who live most modestly and for those who live more extravagantly. we must also sow directly into our purposes through sustenance. These experiences will strengthen the bonds with your connections and develop trust. Do something where you can spend time and enjoy things together with those you love and with whom you are connected. being part of a bowling league or going to the movies or symphony. you can take a few weekends and create a garden in your yard with your children or friends. your experiences are far more valuable than money.In addition to giving to the work of ministry in its various forms. But you also need to address your God-given desires. 136 . One example would be taking your family on vacation to the beach or the mountains. especially. savings and experience. Or. Sustenance is whatever is necessary for you to stay alive – food. clothing. For example. It will create opportunity for more open conversation and for each person to see what causes another to be happy. It does not have to be expensive. you can take a drive to the beach (if you are close to one) and spend the day playing in the sand before driving back. Now how big your house or fancy your car is between you and God. Experience includes doing things with family and friends that may cost money but the social benefit of it far outweighs the cost. Each man must do according to what God has told him to do. which may include things like belonging to a health or running club.
those that do bear fruit. Even though pruning is a small cutting away. you have an idea of what is expected. you have some set aside for the occasional bump in the road. is the gardener. physical preparedness and business investments. It wasted God’s invested resources so it was cursed to die. He also tells us the simple way to be one that is pruned instead of cut off.Finally. However. Just abide in Him and let His word 137 . Consider the parable of the fig tree. is savings. The world advises that we should each save at least 10% of our income. God plants in us the value of experience to mature and prepare us to will and do of His good pleasure so that He may be glorified in the earth. That hope is realized once we allow Him to work through us to fulfill His purposes. These are funds set aside for the expected and unexpected. I call this the other tithe. God. God invests in you through the deposit of His Spirit. the Father. He will prune so they bear even more. they will be cut off. God will keep investing in us as we produce more and more. And yes. If He finds unfruitful branches on the vine. John 15 tells us that Jesus is the true vine and we are the branches. Colossians 1:27 says that Christ in us is the hope of glory. These are things like education. it is so we will be stronger and more effective. The unexpected is primarily the even greater things that God has in store for you that you could not think of or imagine at the time. You set aside the money and resources you need to help fulfill the visions you have in the other life areas. God is then the ultimate investor. but not last in line. It was cursed to wither because it was an investment made that looked like it should have paid off but it actually never bore fruit. Once you know your purpose.
then adjust your lifestyle to work with the other 70% or so you have left. We are then required to employ those resources towards our God-given purposes so that we produce an abundant supply of good fruit throughout our lifetimes. So some sacrifice and go into debt trying to get things that look like tomorrow with only today’s resources. He supplies you with the resources you need to be fruitful. If God has planted you. engrafted you into the true vine. Review all of your expenses including money spent on lunches. Monitor and record your daily spending over the next few weeks to a month. But just start from where you are. Determine what is truly essential and what can be 138 . Many of us feel so pressed by today’s circumstances. then He expects you to produce.abide in you. This delivers only marginal results instead of the success we truly seek. it should be the other way around. We bear down trying to get to a future point of rest and overlook the lessons and value provided in our todays. Saving 20% would be very difficult for most of us right now. One of the keys is to live where you are today. Many of us have been taught to save out of what is left after we have paid everyone including our bills and social activities. Face today and determine to conquer your financial challenges head on. However. The objective of your savings is to be prepared to take advantage of God-given opportunities. Ideally. Does what you spend money on bring you closer to or farther away from your purpose? Don’t waste your time or money on things that don’t move you towards your destiny. First pay towards the kingdom. we should all grow to the place where we can save 20% of our income. eating out and other things. then pay yourself. that is to say. we block out what’s happening now and think only about hurrying to get to a better tomorrow.
if you are in a place where you can’t save anything and you are basically living week to week from your salary. which may mean no mall shopping for a while. If you have $500 on a credit card that you are paying $35 a month on. Once the debts are paid. That $10 will grow to $520 in one year. Furthermore. in a four and a half week month you will have saved $45. Put $40 into savings and use the other $40 to start paying the principal on the next lowest debt you have. For example. do it. you 139 .done away with. Look at what things can be adjusted until you get to where you want to be. stop using the card. if you have credit card and other debt payments start applying some of that savings to paying those debts off faster. you will have only saved $300 but you would have paid off nearly all of your card balance freeing up another $35 that can go into savings and paying off the next debt in the same manner. For example. Live off of your income. As long as your basic needs are met. Just keep going like that until your debts are paid off and your savings are growing. you can do it. if you ate out just one lunch a week instead of five and/or took public transportation to work one week a month and/or started carpooling with others could you save $10 or $20 a week? If so. Put the other $25 per month into your untouched savings. which is more than you have in your account now. First. what would happen if you made a small change? For example. In a year. Then you can add that $35 per month to the $45 per month in savings giving you $80 per month in savings. increase that monthly payment by adding $20 towards only the principal balance for a total payment of $55 per month. Take the $10 a week in savings from making some small changes in your lifestyle and apply half to your smallest debt first and put the other half into savings.
Stress is a big distraction and weight. Sound financial management is part of being a good steward. particularly if you suffered an employment set back such as a layoff or loss of your business. It slows you down and may open the door to the spirit of fear. Then all that is left for you is to continue but with your purpose as the goal of your savings rather than for a “rainy day”. More was given to those that exercised wisdom over what they had been given. Once you have a savings plan also start paying your bills before and no later than they are due. Consider the parable of the talents. Too many of us have missed great opportunities and additional income because we abused and misused what we did have. Make the commitment to invest in yourself. you may see opportunities you have overlooked before. He invests in you 140 . Make the commitment to do whatever you need to do to get your finances aligned with your purpose. Taking control of your finances puts you in charge of your money and not your money in charge of you. If you adjust your thinking about finances to line up with your purpose. you may already be one who is managing his finances soundly. This may require more sacrifice upfront but can have good results in the long run. You may have to adjust some of the things you are saving for based on whether or not those things fit in with where you are destined to go. In addition to avoiding late fees you will have far less stress because you’re not worried about having your lights turned off or your car taken away. Stewardship is wisely managing and employing the resources entrusted to you. God expects that of you.should be a lot closer to the goal of saving 10-20% of your income. All that said. For others it may take a year or two to rebalance your financial picture.

Whereas a correct response can move you quickly forward. But once you are focused on achieving your goals. flying off the handle or quickly becoming angry is never a good option. unforeseen circumstances will arise. This is so you can be flexible enough to adjust to new things the Lord may reveal to you as you go along the way. instinct. how you say it and what you do because an incorrect response can delay your success. Anger is sometimes a necessary emotion but it should be a decision you make rather than an uncontrollable physical response of your body and mind. Referring to your plan can help you respond in a way that is consistent with moving forward. First. It is understood that no matter how well you plan. then determine the proper response to the situation and respond in the proper measure.Lay out the broad steps for getting there.
But it will be time well spent if you do it thoughtfully and implement its results. seriously consider whether it is something that needs to be done or needs to be done by you. which is with forethought and determined action. recognize that you are in fact alive. As you live each day for results. The door to happiness is in each of us in the form of our Godgiven abilities.Practicing self-control is part of living each day for results. What’s working and what’s not. and the key to that door is knowing our purposes and deliberately pursuing them. You have all you need to move from where you are into 154 . Is your plan too aggressive or not aggressive enough? Do you need to shift some things in your environment or does your environment need to change all together in order to achieve your goals? Make the adjustments you need to make. The entire planning process takes time. You are breathing. As you make your changes. evaluate the progress you are making with your plan. thinking and feeling. monitor your time to ensure you are not spending too little (which can result in less than the best results) or too much (which can cause you to get off track and lose the momentum you’ve already built). Think through how much it should reasonably take and use that time effectively. It may require rearranging your tasks or acquiring new skills. If you don’t have peace with something. Any change will require some amount of time. The key to all of this is to do what brings you peace during the process and once each goal is completed. After some period of time (say six months to a year). Many people talk about happiness and how to achieve it. We will deal with the reevaluation process in more detail towards the end of this book and it includes a 12-month schedule that will help you stay on track with reviewing and updating your plan.
These tasks are the actions that will ultimately get you to your point of arrival or success.the great success of peace in each life area. discipline and perhaps some research to complete. it will require time. Though it is straightforward. Your mission is the guide for developing your various milestones. Your vision may take five. Your strategy is the plan you will put in place today to achieve your vision and mission statements at some arrival point in the future. It is important that each task is doable and necessary to achieving the set milestone. add an additional year of milestones. The mission is an overall statement of doing that you will now make more detailed and specific through each milestone. Now armed with the tasks necessary to achieve your vision in each area and thus fulfill your purpose. often the most difficult physical thing to do is implement the plan. This is necessary because each step you take will bring you closer to or take you farther away from your goals. So. giving you up to 25 steps to complete in order. But you may find that some of your tasks overlap or can be accomplished at the same time. Just take one day at a time. you may have 25 milestones that you can reach one at a time. The best approach is one I’m sure you’ve heard before. Based on your strategy charts. But this is where your supply of determination kicks in.Chapter 12 Implementing the Plan After planning. using the Implementation Chart provided or your journal.

Write down the dates for when you want to achieve each milestone based on the amount of time that it may take to accomplish each task related to it (it doesn’t need to be broken into perfect 30 day segments). The amount of time that it will take for you to reach your vision state depends on what is required. As you might have gathered. you might feel nervous about actually taking the steps you have written out OR you may be tempted to put this work aside and 172 . But use the chart to schedule the first three years. Implementation is now the act of doing what you have planned. It may take from six months to ten years to achieve your vision state. Now. Check off the tasks and each milestone in the implementation chart as it is achieved. At this point. we started with a broad approach and broke it into its smallest sensible level of detail. You may make additional copies of this page if needed. Make sure that you build in “down-time. The first two phases of preparation and planning are now complete.” You can write the time required next to each task in your strategy chart. each piece of the puzzle should add up to a whole that causes you to realize your overall mission then your life’s vision and ultimately your purpose.milestones in each life area in relationship to the other life areas (an example chart is provided). you can add the milestones for an additional year. Does this imply that you are not whole until you achieve your vision? Not at all! What makes you whole is an understanding of how to leverage your past. if you start with the detailed tasks and roll everything back together. Each year as you update your plan.
Before you know it. Start with the tasks for the first milestone in your implementation chart and go from there.live like you’ve been living before you started this book. Once you’ve done it for a few weeks. Just keep it simple. Don’t succumb to these feelings! Remember what you ultimately want to achieve in life. RE-EVALUATION You should review your plan and milestones every six month to a year. Revise your plan to reflect what you have learned about yourself during the prior evaluation period. Your purpose should become clearer as you move forward. You may discover that among your many passions there may be one or two that you need to focus on more than the others. Through the course of life your interests will evolve and so will your knowledge of your purpose. You have the freedom to choose whether or not to enhance or even change your pursuits to be more on target with what God wants you to do. But all change has consequences, some good, and some not so good. As long as you understand the consequences of your choices and are comfortable with those impacts on your life, there should be nothing to stop you from moving ahead. As you review and update your plan answer the following set of questions: • Has what you’ve accomplished to date brought you closer to or farther away from your purpose? • What, if anything, is not working well in accomplishing your milestones? • Are the milestones achievable in the time that you allowed? • Are the related tasks too many, insufficient or inappropriate? • Do you need to re-prioritize your milestones? Flexibility Be flexible and allow yourself to change course and revise your vision as you go through the process and have new experiences. But understand the consequences of any new choices that you make. Consistently check your level of happiness with the process and its results:

Are you unhappy with your vision or the work it is taking to get there? If it’s the work – make the choice – is the vision more important than getting through the work? Can the work be made more enjoyable? Or, does the work make the vision not worth it?
Understand the consequences of any choice that you make. Final Thoughts on Strategy The process laid out here can be an invaluable tool you can use for years to come. If you use it properly, it will help point you in the right direction: the path towards the ultimate success called peace which only comes through fulfilling your God-given purpose. Don’t forget to re-evaluate yourself every six to twelve months. This is crucial to keeping your vision and mission statements updated and to keeping you motivated to achieve them. If you believe that you can achieve success, you will. When you believe, you will act, and taking the right actions will lead to success. You were born with the ability to succeed. Don’t be overcome with fear. When fear says, “What if it doesn’t work?” ask yourself, “What if it does work?” If you believe it is possible, it will work.
Chapter 13 12-Month Productivity Calendar
Achieving successful results in anything requires deliberate and consistent effort. Throughout this book I have given you a structure that should help you achieve results. You can follow this model exactly or modify it slightly to suit your own personal situation. But you do have to remain focused throughout the year in order to succeed. To that end, I offer the following 12-Month productivity calendar with activities that will keep you engaged in your pursuit and hopefully keep your motivation charged. You don’t have to start this planning program in January, although a new year tends to make people feel like they have a fresh start. Even if you are reading this book in June, your fresh start can begin tomorrow. If you need things to improve now, then start making changes right now. Don’t lock yourself into a beginning of year start date. This calendar is one way to structure your thinking and actions throughout the year. You can add to or modify it as needed based on where you are. But these are the basics. As you will see, fasting and prayer is a critical part of your success. If you want to achieve your destiny, you have to be in consistent communication with the One, God the Father, who designed your destiny for you.
Planning for the next year and the additional year you will add to the end of the 3-5 year plan. and to place it and any other circumstances that may arise during the year into His hands. Month ONE Start with intense prayer and a fast to the Lord of three to seven days. So. Consecrate some time every day to prayer in each of the 12 months. June. Start by completing your first milestones for each life area and continue. Do you feel more accomplished? Do you feel like you made progress? If not. When month 1 comes again. And so the process goes on. April. It is when execution starts. others and situations. However. months 9-12 are your most intense planning months. you should be accomplishing tasks or milestones every month. starts 3-4 months before the start of your new year. Month TWO Reflect on the prior month’s activities. So. you will gain little value. Make notes in your calendar as you learn new things about yourself. you start execution on your second planned year. Once you start. It is also to help you open up to the Holy Spirit so that you can be better led throughout the year as you accomplish the milestones you prayerfully developed. The fast is to help you release the past so you can embrace the new doors you will be walking into over the next year. etc.. If you get wrapped up in fasting without the intense prayer. 184 .In the previous chapter you developed a milestone-based strategy that should cover the next three to five years. You fast so you can better focus your attention on prayer and communication with God. Again. the calendar below is a good guideline to help you stay on track to your success. Get a new weekly calendar with space for entries so you can journal the start and completion of your milestones. there is a lot of adjusting and modifying that takes place in months 2-4 so that in months 5-9 you are working to your plan without many stops. The objective is to thank God for revealing His purpose to you. the planning process is ongoing and requires different activities throughout the year. Month 1 is the start of your planned year whether yours is January.
Look at His creation around you and see how everything is wonderfully made. On at least one day. Do you see improvement in yourself and your life? Are you feeling better about things. Month THREE Consecrate at least one to three days to prayer and fasting. Ask God to give you a God perspective and to take away the worldly perspective. consistency or a change in the plan? Make modifications in your milestones that better reflect what you have learned about yourself. What do you think you need to change about your plan. if any. Consecrate some time every day to prayer. Evaluate your timing. 185 . Reflect on the first two months. Stop and reflect. Keep implementing your plan. Review your milestone journal notes from the previous three months. including you. if anything? How do your overall vision and mission statements for each life area need to be modified based on what you’ve learned? Make corresponding changes to your milestones. others and your circumstances. review and refine your future milestones so that you will continue to have success. what is not working for you? What do you think you need to do differently to feel better about yourself and what you need to do? If so.determine what you need to do differently – more intensity. Adjust your milestone timing. Month FOUR You have completed one of four annual quarters. a mountain or your own backyard. more accomplished? If not. This can be a park. Are things taking longer or shorter amounts of time than expected? Based on what you’ve learned. find a quiet place outside to reflect on God’s goodness to you. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you in new ways. Pray for strength of mind and for God to continue working on your mindset. Continue achieving your milestones and journaling your experiences.
Month FIVE You should know yourself a bit better now and how to work through this process given your milestones and circumstances. Start learning more about politics. Do something to recharge yourself. make sure they don’t creep back in. Month SIX Keep accomplishing your milestones and journaling your experiences. Make sure your confessions line up with the results you desire. Have you trimmed your life of unfruitful relationships? If you have. Speak life and expect fruition to take place. If you plan to succeed but speak against yourself. Do something to sharpen your mind and increase your knowledge.Consecrate a one to three days fast. Find any synergies in your process. Keep actively working through your milestones for each life area. The purpose is to expand your base of knowledge and help you grow. Ask God to clarify your purpose even more. you will stall or fall backwards. cut the cord and move forward! 186 . Look for connections between life areas and how you can simplify your process by doing one thing that serves two or more purposes. Ask Him if He is pleased with all you are doing and how He would like for you to move forward. Note in your journal how the success in one life area is impacting other life areas. It’s time to focus on continuous achievement. sports or anything you don’t really know that much about now. Look for and expect good outcomes from all that you are doing. then what are you waiting for? If a relationship is holding you back. You may also discover new ways of or resources for completing your goals. Don’t forget to have dedicated prayer every day throughout the year. Go out with family and/or friends and relax. If not. It’s your faith that makes the difference in your life. cooking.
How are people around you (family. your purpose should cause you to do something that helps someone else or makes a positive impact on things. Review your expectations and whether or not they are being met. Make sure quiet prayer time with the Lord is part of your break. If so. Do a character check. Why are things working now when they weren’t before? When you find the answer. keep doing it and incorporate it into your future plans. mind and action. vision and mission. Keep working through your milestones. Don’t let naysayers stop you from continuing your pursuit of purpose for you must achieve your destiny. review your purpose. what is working now that wasn’t before. How do you feel about yourself now? You should be feeling better about your ability to accomplish anything to which you set your heart. ask if they were realistic given your planning.Month SEVEN You are now half way through the year. and what isn’t working right at all. Month NINE Keep working on you milestones and consecrating yourself to daily prayer. Take a vacation so you can devote time to reflecting on your life. friends. ask yourself what made the difference. 187 . co-workers) responding to the changes you are making? You have completed three fourths of your planning year. Review all your journal notes. Beef up your knowledge on something that will better able you to achieve your purpose. Month ELEVEN Look at the milestones you have planned for the upcoming year. How do you feel about what you have accomplished so far? How do you feel about yourself? Make notes in your journal to summarize your experiences. As you pursue purpose. What has God done that has been above and beyond your expectations this year? 188 . Modify them according to what you have learned about yourself and how your purpose has been refined in this year. Read books or articles that will expand your base. Month TEN Fast and pray for three days as your prepare to review and plan for the next year. What have you learned about yourself and your purpose? Has your purpose become clearer to you? Have you yet achieved anything that has helped others? If so. how has what you’ve done blessed others? It is important to recognize your own accomplishments and know that you are doing what God wills for you. Ask God to grant you more wisdom and strength to grow in grace and into your purpose. elevating your vision beyond what you could originally see.Evaluate your progress and make notes in your journal about how you feel about yourself. Is it a struggle to accomplish your milestones? Are they realistic for you given who and where you are today? Can you increase your efforts or complete your milestones at a higher level of excellence? Make any changes to your milestones that are required to keep you motivated to achieve them yet challenged to grow. Reflect over the last nine months. God will take you from glory to glory. Keep working on you milestones.
Month TWELVE You have almost completed an entire year of your plan. Thank God for granting you success.Has He expanded your vision and thus your understanding of your purpose? How so? How do you need to revise your goals to incorporate what you can now see? Make those changes to your plan. What resources will be needed for the upcoming year and when will they need to be in place. discuss and document what you will do in the upcoming year to achieve what you didn’t but need to achieve and your new set of goals. 189 . Pray for His continued guidance and presence in your life. Review all the milestones you have documented and ready your mind to achieve them. Meet with a trusted and supportive friend to discuss what you have accomplished. Go out and celebrate the year and all your achievements. Do something that relaxes and prepares you for you upcoming plan year. what you would have liked to accomplish but didn’t and why. Re-examine your vision and mission statements for each life area. If so. Do you feel accomplished? List all your accomplishments for the year in one place and review them. For those things that you didn’t accomplish determine whether or not they were really necessary to your success. Keep working on you milestones and consecrating yourself to daily prayer. Revise your plan as needed. Make plans and start taking steps to ensure those resources will be in place on time.
Chapter 14 Prepare to Begin: “On Your Mark! Get Set!…”
So you now know what and you know how. But are you really ready to change your life and start living for results? There are just a few more things you need to know before you begin. If you at least know these things you can get off to a good start. The first is your character. In addition to the assessments in the previous chapters, ask yourself, “Who am I?” Am I open, generous, kind, loving, hard-headed, disciplined, diligent, lazy, selfish, untrusting, etc.? Next ask yourself, “What is my attitude?” Am I forgiving, merciful, positive, encouraging, hateful, nasty, critical, judgmental, proud, arrogant, aloof, unconcerned, distant, meddling, gossipy, skeptical, harsh, etc.? If you are honest with yourself and see any issues, then they need to be addressed. Some of us do good and behave in acceptable ways, but we are carrying spirits of judgment and bitterness that manifest through negative behavior and speech. You may seem to be the nicest person in the world but you are still carrying deep hurts from what may have
been done to you years ago. These negative things will hinder and even block your pursuit of destiny. You may start towards achieving your purpose but find that you keep running into problems that throw you off track. Often it is not the devil that is getting in your way but rather the things in your past that have you anchored. The solution is deliverance. We all need deliverance. I have to check myself regularly to see if I am holding onto things or people when I need to let go and forgive. Some of us need to go way back to our childhoods to find the point where we stopped believing in good and started expecting problems. Those old roots need to be dug up and destroyed. You need to be free to run the race that is before you. Seek out your deliverance through ministry and the Word. It may take a while or not. But as long as you at least know where your issues are and begin to address them, you can have a successful start towards pursuing your purpose and achieving your destiny. Also, consider the following points as you prepare yourself for success. Take time to think through them, un-clutter your thoughts and relieve yourself of any negative and blocking beliefs. This way you can better realize your true potential. As you read through the following points, thoughts about your life (what you want, what you’ve experienced, who you know) may come to you. Use your journal to write anything you want to remember or address. I. You Get Over Past Mistakes by Taking the Lessons With
Hardships are the fuel of triumphs. Learn how to use them to your advantage rather than letting them abuse you. I have had a number of personal failures rooted primarily in my lack of self-esteem due to things I could not change about myself or situations I could not control. But I learned a number of things from those failures and carried those lessons with me.
I also looked for the common positive thread among all of my life experiences. In the area of career, for example, I discovered that my personality is better suited for consulting and entrepreneurial ventures. Helping others one-on-one and project-by-project better fits my skill set than running a 100-member division of a corporation although I could do that well. Past experience is an indicator of what we should do with our future. II. Overcome the “Fear” of Success
Fear, which many of us can associate with being outside our comfort zone, has held most of us back from success. Because of fear, one can end up in a cycle of failure that continually spins in place or worse yet, spirals down. You can’t always wait until you’re comfortable, that is to say until everything is perfectly in place, to begin to live your life. Most often, success requires taking calculated risks. You have to launch out into the deep. Come out of your comfort zone. IT’S A CHOICE!!! Make the choice to overcome the fear rather than succumb to it. If you don’t, the alternative could be worse. You could be stuck in a cycle and never achieve success, ending your life wondering what might have been instead of enjoying what you have achieved. Fear continually asks, “What if it doesn’t work?” Determination asks, “WHAT IF IT DOES?” Use rejection and criticism as fuel rather than weights. Understand others’ motivations. Is their rejection because they want you to stay in the chicken hut with all of the other hens? Or, do they offer constructive criticism because they want to see you soar like the eagles but avoid hitting the treetops? “Wounds” of a true friend can be trusted. By the same token, don’t fall into the trap of doing things just to please others. That then makes them rulers of your destiny and judges of your success. God’s success for you is not a zero-sum game. No one has to lose in order for you to succeed.
Make choices that are based on the right reasons. The downside of relying on outside opinions is loss of decision-making control. go to a movie. first ensure that you know and understand their consequences (results. But be careful not to rely on them. small “inexpensive” purchases. IV. No matter what choices you make. ask yourself 194 .Respect the successes of others and know that if others can succeed. Even the “Small” Ones When you achieve a goal or accomplish critical steps towards achieving it. or give yourself a short break. Make the Decision To Stop Doing the “Expected” Thing and Start Doing the “Right” Thing Why are you going down your current path? Is it what is expected of you? By whom? If you expect this of yourself. There is an unlimited supply of the “success gene. timing. Celebrate your Successes. why do you have that expectation? Why do others' opinions count? There is some good in valuing others' opinions of you (learning.” We all were born with it. If you deal with this. as a reality check). not what’s expected. encouragement. independence and confidence. Your choices never have to involve deliberately hurting or stepping on others. III. give yourself a treat that reinforces it. Celebrate and enjoy your life. the impact on other life areas and other people). For example-personal time. so can you. time with loved ones. Choose Success Will you overcome fear or succumb to it? Choose to do what’s best. Celebrate. send yourself a greeting card celebrating your achievement. There are many forks in the road. V. because you are getting closer to your divine destiny. Don’t stress. enjoy a night out with friends.

When you know. vision. organization. love and like yourself. it’s easier to determine what success is for you and why achieving that success is important.why someone else’s opinion is more important than your own? How can they possibly know what is better for you? Is their life so perfect that they can do a good job of running yours. a term we don’t hear much anymore. If you know and love yourself. is invaluable. respect from others. Furthermore. too? Is this path a natural path for you? Is it really working for you (are you accomplishing the goals necessary to achieve your vision)? Are you pleased with what you’re doing. beliefs and values and then you can command respect for your own. talents or skills (e. Do those things that will bring you success and joy while you’re getting there as well as after you’ve arrived.g. Focus on your positive intrinsic gifts and talents then capitalize on them. talents and skills can be chipped at over time by experience and may need to be rebuilt. You must first respect others’ rights to their own views. attention to detail. and why aren’t you there? What are some of your basic intrinsic gifts. Self-respect also means exercising self-control. by your presence. 195 . You can’t really please others if you’re not taking pleasure in what you do. or are you trying to please someone else? Where did you plan to be by now. Respect Others as You Desire To Be Respected Self-respect. A self-respecting person always does what is best for him or her to the extent that it does not harm others. Do what is best for you. You won’t take pleasure in what you do unless you are doing what God wants you to do. In this context.. it means not settling for the mediocre when you can attain the best. leadership. motivation)? These gifts. they will find you a source of encouragement towards realizing their own success. You will find that those who really matter will be more pleased with you once you are pleased with yourself.
VII. No one else can be your excuse! 196 . and enjoying the process is a significant part of getting there. Enjoy your life. Recognize That You Can Do It Making a goal chart is inspiring for some but intimidating and depressing for others. But inside changes can alter everything about your life. you will succeed. Others may help you along the way. but some outcomes are not totally controlled by you. You have the authority to change what you don’t like. environmental settings. Outside changes don’t change the inside. for example. the behavior and decisions of others that you may have depended on. If you are determined and disciplined. look inside and answer the tough questions about who you are and why you are that way and whether or not you like what you see. Don’t be disheartened by what you might first see. The process in this book is designed to be manageable by just about everyone. You can either change your environment or modify your plans. No Excuses. Be flexible with yourself. I hope to inspire you to make wise choices and act at the right time. but the responsibility for movement is yours. VIII. circumstances surrounding the environment in which you have chosen to work. It is a plan for success. Don't let the planning process intimidate you. Don’t make your plan a burden. IX. Recognize That You Can’t Control the Outcome of Everything You can always plan. But you are responsible for making those choices. Be prepared to modify your plans according to uncontrollable outcomes or circumstances. You have to spend time with yourself. It is an individual thing. Please! Your success depends on you alone.
Laziness and procrastination bring about bondage to other people and to circumstances. As a matter of fact. The ability to work is a blessing. the only thing standing between you and success is discipline. Discipline Now. change your associations and/or change your behavior.Achieving success may require that you change your environment. Discipline to work yields success. your success is rooted in helping others. Work is not a curse. Choose to be free! X. Discipline to act and determination to find the resources needed to complete your objectives. 197 . change your location. It is possible to progress towards success while helping others.
I would also like to give you five keys to achieving the success of peace through your purpose. God 199 . Understanding your purpose is what helps motivate and move you to fulfill goals in your life that bring your purpose into fruition. In other words salvation is being put back into right relationship with God through our acceptance of and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. even our emotions. That reconciliation is more than just a casual relationship. A covenant relationship is a bilateral or two-sided contract. Just as the life of Jesus Christ had everything to do with redeeming each of us back to God. Everything in creation has a purpose. God uses all things in a perfectly strategic and coordinated way that helps us to realize and pursue the purpose for our lives. so too your purpose has everything to do with your life having a positive impact on the lives of others. The act of salvation is being reconciled back to God through Jesus Christ. This means that both parties in the agreement make promises to each other in order to keep the contract in force.Chapter 15 On To Destiny As I summarize what we’ve talked about throughout this book. Purpose is the reason you were created by God. It is a binding covenant relationship with God the Father.
I have called you friends. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. thrown into the fire and burned. John 15: 1-17. 17 This is my command: Love each other. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. and it will be done for you. it must remain in the vine. No branch can bear fruit by itself. As each person is reconciled and takes on their right membership in the body of Christ. you will bear much fruit. So. In one of my five year cycles. The truth is none of us are perfect but we should be working towards perfection. I kept trying to go forward towards my goals. which slowed my process. They seem almost perfect and instead of encouraging their stories are a little discouraging because I know that I am not at all perfect. because I did not adequately deal with the issues at the time. in my story. Then at the end of the first month I sustained two devastating blows. It was in that moment the realization of the need for deliverance became more evident.My Testimony Some of you may ask if I succeeded by using this process. and I was full of faith and highly motivated. I will try to share a bit of what I faced. I kept trying but when I continued to hit walls I had to increase my prayer time with God and go deeper spiritually. After taking time to try to figure it all out and deal with it. I moved forward with a “limp”. tremendously. However. The answer is yes. I find myself asking how it was so easy for them. my relationships seemed intact. I was all geared up to pursue my purpose and achieve great success. my health was wonderful. They literally rocked my world. I could still see my goal which gave me hope to keep trying. though I strive to be. they had some challenges along the way to their success and overcame them to arrive where God wanted them to be. may face challenges along the way but God will give you the grace to overcome them all. Yet. There were times when I wanted to give up. You just have to know that even if they don’t mention it. I did not recognize it right away but there was a fear that set in after those experiences. 201 . I had a mark in front of me that I needed to reach in spite of the setbacks. As you read my story you will see it is not one of perfection. Because my focus was purpose. too. I often wonder when I hear people preach on all that God has done in their life and never once mention issues they had or mistakes they made along the way. I had my resources in place. You. That fear caused me to make poor decisions that put me into more trouble.
Things seemed to be going very well then it all fell apart. again. I was disappointed. I asked Him to give me more direct relationships and the right people to work with. There was one person I didn’t want to call because of a very bad past experience with them in which I was terribly hurt.By spending more time with God. I did. God opened a door and I went through. He said keep going. and it was better than the last. I thought through all my contacts and tried to identify new ones through them. Then He started bringing people to mind. Within three days I had it. Since then. I could hear His instructions more clearly than my own thoughts and the opinions of others. Then I asked Him for some specific things. We were almost at the point of success and then the door closed. In a one year period this process happened over ten times. But I obeyed and called. each time God opened a door it was far better than the door I had last 202 . When He said that I began to expand my thoughts and look for other ways to get things done. We worked on a project and it seemed to be going well but it fell apart. Another door opened that was better than the last and I went through. But He told me to keep going on the path He laid for me. However. So I went back to God and asked what happened and what I should do because I didn’t see any other way? He said keep going. that person has been very instrumental in moving me closer to my goals. Then He opened another door that was better than the first. Yes. So. We are still friends today. I asked God for clearer direction because at one point in the third year I was really ready to give up and do life like everyone else. The goals I originally set were sufficient for some of the things I knew I needed to do. After things fell apart I asked God what happened and what should I do now? Honestly. build my 401k and retire. He said keep going. I met and worked with new people and things went well. One of the most interesting parts of this five year experience is a powerful revelation I received from experiencing failure after failure. I attended conferences where I could hear a preached word that dealt with my situation and I became more active in my service to God (You see how I shifted my tasks to accommodate new circumstances?). work a job. This time I asked God what did He want me to do. Then when it seemed we were almost “there” things fell apart.
As a result. The operative word here is can. Have you ever downsized your home? Most times when you move to a smaller home it cannot contain all the furniture and belongings you had in your larger home. God had to take me through His perfectly designed process to raise my level of expectation up to the level of His promises to me. When you then put the word exceeding in front of it that means not only can God do abundantly above what we ask or think but the measure of what He can do exceeds the definition of abundant. my vision and expectation increased far beyond where it was when I started. The Word says exceeding abundantly. So here is the revelation. So you put the things you don’t want to get rid of in storage. according to the power that works in us. This is why the scripture says. We believe a promise from God but we try to understand that promise from a worldly point of view. But the full promise cannot be contained by our thoughts. But that is not correct.walked through. abundantly both adjectives that describe how much he will go above our thoughts or petitions. So we box it in a way we can understand. So. So. Think about this. God loves us so much and wants to give us so much. The end of that verse says according to the power that works in us. plentiful. over sufficient or extreme. He can go beyond even that. Ephesians 3:20. if you can stretch your mind as far as it will go to understand abundant. He can do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think. He will only go as far as our expectations of Him will take us. In other words. God has had to put a lot of the things He 203 . Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. so that exceeding is the adjective that describes the word abundantly and abundantly refers to our thoughts and petitions. But our faith is not to the level of what He has in store for us. Many times we don’t get what we want when we want it because our desire and expectation is far below what God desires for us. Here is where we can make the mistake. Many people say exceedingly. what’s the difference? The word abundantly can be defined in dictionary terms as bountiful. Now look closely at the wording.
When we expand our expectations of God it is like increasing the square footage of where we live. Throughout the process He sustained me. When I understood this revelation. 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. length and breadth of his love for us. I thought my starting goal was out of the ballpark. And I pray that you. But by yielding myself to God and pursuing purpose with Him at the forefront. That is the bottom line and that is our destiny. This revelation is so powerful that I had to share it in this context. When you recognize and accept how much God really loves you and the many benefits you are entitled to as one of His own. I stopped crying and complaining about not getting what I wanted at that moment. depth. As I began to accept how much God loved me and wanted to bless me in every area of my life. I allowed Him to expand me through my failures and disappointments. This is the power that we need to have working in us for God to exceed abundantly what we ask or think. I found there was no stadium that could contain His goals through me. it just became larger and clearer. 18 may have power. If we grasp it we will be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. to maximize our positive impact on the world for God’s glory. together with all the Lord’s holy people. it changed everything. It is the power to grasp the width. to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. After a year he set me in places that not only I did not hope for but in high places I didn’t even know existed! So did my purpose or plan completely change? No. 204 . being rooted and established in love. Through that revelation I was able to improve my plan to have an even greater impact than what I originally thought. How do I know this? Read the two verses before verse 20. And we know the fullness of God exceeds abundantly all we could ask or think. The more space we have the more room we have to receive what He has in storage for us. So all the planning was good and by being faithful to pursue it God was able to reveal more of Himself to me.has for us in storage until we can make room for them through our faith. you make room for what He has for you.
Favor 1. Our specific purposes are dependent on our experiences. environments and personalities. God has invested in us and by seeking His face we will discover what the return from that investment is supposed to be. Faith 5. Pursuit 3. you are not living life in conflict with God and ultimately yourself and. Focus St. Pursuit In Philippians 3: 12-14 Paul tells us how he spends his life pressing towards the goals God has given him to pursue. Focus 2. The call or his 205 . 2. So how do we move forward starting right from where we are today? There are five keys that when combined will help you to achieve your goals. that is maximizing your clarity of it. We are to bear good fruit towards building the Kingdom of God through our connection to Jesus Christ. There is a peace that comes from knowing you are doing what you are supposed to be doing with your life. Friction 4. By examining our lives from a Godly perspective we will better know the paths we are to take.I Five Keys to Fruition It is important that you know and understand your specific purpose so that first. The ultimate prize he desires is eternal life through Jesus Christ. you will be sustained and have the strength to move forward when you are faced with various types of opposition. will serve to bring the fulfillment out of life you seek. By focusing on what God created you to do the things you want out of life then flow. second. Focus on purpose. 1. John 15 gives us to know why each one of us is here. which have all been crafted by God so we have the desire to do what He wants of us.
we get excited and praise Him before we’ve heard the entire word. remember. hinders and can bring discouragement that may cause us to stop moving forward all together. However. The confrontations were necessary so God could demonstrate Himself to the enemy that they. they went forward into the fight knowing that He would reward them with the promise. press on to take hold of the kingdom through your call. The heathen nations they defeated learned to fear and acknowledge the true and living God through the way God delivered His people. Why did God do this? Because. The road to our promises is the journey of purpose. we risk falling off the right track. We miss the parts where He tells us to stand and be strong in our faith while we wait for the manifestation. if we pursue the promises. If we stop moving we will never arrive at our destination. This distraction prolongs. in Joshua 1:1-9 Joshua was given a promise and assurance from God. they had to confront enemies of great physical strength and number in order to get it. 3. Friction is not only to make you stronger but also that God can be glorified among those that don’t know Him. But in making the promise God also told him to be strong and very courageous and not to be frightened or dismayed. Even though Joshua received a powerful promise from the Almighty God who had the ability to fulfill it in an instant. When many of us hear a promise from God. our efforts should be directed towards fulfilling our purposes so we can obtain the promises. He lets us know that the only way to the promise is through the call. it’s about someone else. Friction Have you ever received a promise from God. your purpose is not about you.purpose was given by God and so he spends his time pursuing his goal by fulfilling his call. It would have been easy for Joshua to ask God to just let them stay where they were and cause them to prosper in that place without the fight. too. then it seemed like right after that things started going wrong or in the opposite direction of the promise you received? After the death of Moses. 206 . As with Paul. But because they understood their purpose as servants to the Almighty. So. would turn and worship Him. We are all God’s children.
but to those who have faith and are saved. It gives you patience to stand and to keep going even when things happen that would otherwise hold you back.”[f] 38 And. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God. Faith When you know your purpose it becomes much easier not only to understand your circumstances but to manage them as well. Faith becomes easier when you know what your life is about and where you are headed. 37 For. “In just a little while. Hebrews 10:35-39 says this. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back. he received his righteous reward (Hebrews 11:6-7). it will be richly rewarded. He does not always reward us as our sins deserve and He always gives us much more than we can merit. Too many people believe we serve a hard God who is always ready to punish. But a close examination of scripture supports that He is always ready to forgive and then bless us abundantly for 207 . “But my righteous[g] one will live by faith. you will receive what he has promised. Instead. 35 So do not throw away your confidence. do not shrink back or give up. 5. In going forward from today. because he believed and obeyed God in spite of strong opposition. Favor God is very loving and generous. So. Believe in the Lord your God.4. he who is coming will come and will not delay. hold fast to your promises and pursue your call in confidence towards Him. If Noah did not have faith in God’s word. God has planted in you the ability to endure and press through any circumstance to achieve your destiny. You can’t please God without faith because it is the vehicle through which He works in your life. he would have perished with the rest of the world.”[h] 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed.
5 Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting. True success is peace. and you will be my people. is all the peace. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high. joy or success outside of relationship with God. Accept Him today and you will have received the greatest love you will ever know in life. and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land. love and joy that you seek. and they will fall by the sword before you. To what we do God contributes His Favor so it is fulfilled. 10 You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. He is a God that grants favor to those that fear or obey Him.” This same favor is available to us. and the sword will not pass through your country. In God. who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. and your enemies will fall by the sword before you. and I will keep my covenant with you. 8 Five of you will chase a hundred. 7 You will pursue your enemies. and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand. 6 “‘I will grant peace in the land. 208 . 13 I am the LORD your God. and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. That Favor comes through the purpose. Consider Leviticus 26: 3-13. 9 “‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers. A Call to Action If you are not saved then I invite you to accept Jesus Christ today. Favor is what takes care of all the things we can’t control like the attitudes and behavior of others. 4 I will send you rain in its season and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. He even gives us favor with those that would be our enemies. For there is no peace. and I will not abhor you. 11 I will put my dwelling place[a] among you. and true peace is only found in having faith in God. God grants favor and life to those that do His will. 12 I will walk among you and be your God. “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands.taking the step to repent. I will remove wild beasts from the land. This book is about all we need to do to achieve our destinies.
If you are saved. 209 . Focus your eyes on God. thus fulfilling His part of the covenant. if for no other reason than you now know how to move forward by living each day to achieve the results God predestined for you to achieve. Make sure you give Him the answer He is looking for. it in turn causes God to be glorified through your life. He will cause your desires to come and over take you. As the covenant is fulfilled. Your part of the covenant is to find what your purpose is and pursue it without looking to the left or right. He’s ready and waiting for you to respond to the call. This is your destiny. As He is glorified in you. the body of Christ is built through salvation because your life has become a living testimony to the greatness of our God that draws men to Him. You are blessed right where you are today. As you seek Him. you are in covenant with God. You should respond with a yes for all the reasons we discussed and many more. The Charge God is calling on you now to fulfill your part of the covenant by knowing and pursuing your purpose. and not your desires.
