PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO HONOR JUSTIN R. CLAYTON –
BATTALION CHIEF FOR FAUQUIER COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE, AND
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Justin Clayton has recently announced his retirement effective in
February of 2014; ending over 46 years of continual service to the citizens of Fauquier as an EMS
Provider; and
WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Clayton first became involved in Emergency Services while
growing up in Keene, New Hampshire; where he became a junior member of the National Ski Patrol; and
WHEREAS, after serving in the U.S. Army at Vint Hill, Battalion Chief Clayton settled in
Fauquier County and started a family; and in 1968 he joined the Warrenton Volunteer Rescue Squad; and
WHEREAS, in 1973 the Claytons bought their first house in the town of Remington and his
community service followed him to the Remington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department; and
WHEREAS, in 1976 Battalion Chief Clayton was a student in Fauquier County’s first Emergency
Medical Technician (EMT) Course and later that year completed training to become an IV Technician;
and
WHEREAS, in 1977 Battalion Chief Clayton returned to the Warrenton Volunteer Rescue Squad
and eventually held the positions of President and Rescue Chief for several years; and
WHEREAS, in 1978 Battalion Chief Clayton completed Fauquier County’s first ALS (Cardiac
Tech) program and continued to volunteer his time until becoming one of the three original ALS
Responders employed by Fauquier County in February of 1991; now, therefore, be it
PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 9th day of January 2014, That
Mr. Justin Clayton be, and is hereby, recognized and honored by the Fauquier County Board of
Supervisors for his monumental contributions to the Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency
Management.
