A parent’s activity guide to celebrating Thanksgiving (Choose one or all) 1. Blessing box-write down your blessings on slips of paper and keep in a special box. Read them aloud once a year. 2. Tell the story of the Pilgrims and Indians. Share it with your kids, let them tell you the story. 3. Listen to Adventures in Odyssey as a family. There are five stories that teach thankfulness. You can purchase them for a minimal price and listen on iTunes. 4. Establish November traditions (before you eat, take turns saying what you’re thankful for; bake pies together as a family, attend a parade, etc. ) 5. Make a list of 5 people you are thankful for 6. Go visit or call everyone on your list 7. Write ‘thank you’ notes to teachers, pastors,

fire fighters, police, etc in your community 8. If you have a friendly pet, go on a field trip to a local nursing home. Residents can’t have pets and this simple act can bring so much joy. 9. Make birdfeeders for the birds(roll pinecones in peanut butter and then birdseed; hang from tree by yarn) 10. Volunteer as a family (rake leaves, trim branches for elderly, carry in neighbor’s trash can every week, etc.) 11. Create a colorful fall garland with felt leaf shapes. Write things you’re thankful for on one side of the leaves. 12. Ding Dong Ditch a Thanksgiving Meal-find a needy family in your town. Make or buy a turkey, ring the bell and leave it at their door. 13. Memorize I Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
