gov> Subject: Thank You!
All, Just wanted you all to know that, for the past few days, I have been negotiating a separation agreement with the Mayor to end my employment with the city. The Mayor and I have agreed that the Commission and I differ in our views regarding the direction of the city and that it would be in the best interests of all for me to step down from my City Manager position. The details of the separation agreement aren't yet finalized, including my retirement date, but I expect that I will be leaving city employment before the end of the month. I will let you all know as soon as I can when things are finalized, as well as who the Commission intends to appoint as Interim City Manager. I have had a wonderful career with the city and it has been a sincere pleasure and honor to work with all of you. I have said for many years that I would put our city staff up against any municipal staff in the state and I feel as strongly about that as ever. I came to Battle Creek in 1985 to work as the city's Traffic Engineer and figured I would be here for maybe five years. But I stayed for nearly 29 years because I fell in love with the community and found city staff to be one of the most caring collection of people around. I will miss our city family and want to thank all of you for your hard work and commitment to the Battle Creek community. I wish you all the best in your personal and professional endeavors.
