Leadership Team News
Congratulations to all of the children and families for such a great start to the school year! The new Prep children have had a successful start to the year, thanks to supportive parents and staff. We look forward to another great week.

Parent Teacher Information Nights
The annual Parent/Teacher nights are being conducted this week and next. Your child's teacher will have communicated to you which night these will be held. It is always great to see the number of parents who make sure that they attend each year. We encourage all parents to come if you possibly can.

St Augustine's Swimming Carnival

This Friday, our swimming carnival is being held at the PBC Olympic Pool. All children from Years 3 - 7 plus children who have nominated from Year 2 (who are turning 8 this year) will be participating. To ensure a successful day there are a few reminders which we ask parents to reinforce with your children:

 We remind all children that they are expected to stay in the house colour area during the day, wear sun
protection - hat, rash shirt, sunscreen- and have plenty of water on the day;

 Children are to stay in the shaded tent area when not competing - not to play in the stands behind the
tent area or play on the grassed area;

 Children need to go to the toilets with a buddy and should not use the canteen at the pool;  We need all children to have their name marked off the roll by their child's teacher when they leave at
the end of the day. Parents are very welcome to be there - don't forget there is usually a parent relay at the end of the day! We look forward to a great day.

Leadership Days
Our Year 7 children will have their leadership day at St Monica's next Monday and Year 6 will have their day on Tuesday. At these days the children will have the opportunity to learn a little more about leadership as well as elect the captains and sports captains for 2014.

Uniform Reminders
We are very proud of our uniform and what it stands for in the community. Just a few reminders:

 Sports shoes worn with sports uniforms in Years 1-7 AND in Prep with their new uniform, need to be
predominately white with white laces (no coloured laces please);

 Ear rings need to be sleepers or studs. For safety reasons, any other type should not be worn to school;  Hair below the collar for both girls and boys should be tied back at all times (safety/hygiene).

Students with Medical Alerts

Returning students with special medical alerts will receive their annual Medical Alert Information Sheet this week. Please check the current details and fill in the details that need adjusting (many just need to change grade and teacher) and return to Mrs Marrison A.S.A.P. Any new students to the school who have medical concerns will also receive an Information Sheet which needs to be completed and returned to the front office. A Medical Alert Meeting is planned for Wednesday 26 February. We strongly encourage you to attend this meeting with your child.

Administration of Paracetamol

From time to time your child may need a panadol (for fever, pain or discomfort). For us to be able to administer a panadol to your child the following form (Authority for Administering Paracetamol In An Emergency) needs to be completed and signed each year. There are conditions that apply to administering paracetamol: * only given in an emergency (ie. fever, pain or discomfort); * only one dose is to be given; * parents will be required to take the child home or to a doctor at earliest convenience; * paracetamol only preparations to be given. No mixtures; * paracetamol not to be given to those who have had an adverse reaction to it. Please hand in the form to the front office. Thank you.

Administration of Prescribed Medication
At times, your child may need to be given medication during school hours that has been prescribed by their doctor ie. antibiotics etc. If this is the case, we ask that you fill in the attached Student Medication Request Form and hand into the office together with the prescribed medication. Please ensure that the medication has the original pharmacy label, with child's name, dosage, times to be taken and that the student has received the medication at home without ill effects. The medication is kept securely in the Sick Bay room or fridge. NB: It is the parent/carer responsibility to collect these prescribed medications from the office at the end of the school day. General News
Student Banking - Youthsaver Student Banking: Each Thursday at 8:30pm Drop Youthsaver bank book off at the front office.

Student banking will recommence this Thursday. If you would like your child to do student banking, please hand in your Youthsaver book to the office by 8:30am. Once the banking has been processed, the books will be returned to the classroom teacher via their pigeon hole. Students from Prep through to Years 4 have today received a parent information pack regarding joining/participating in Student Banking. Thank you once again to Bernadette Smith who has generously offered to process the children's banking each Thursday.

Child and Adolescent Oral Health Services

The Child and Adolescent Oral Health Service has completed routine oral health care for students attending St Augustine’s. Please consider attending your family dentist in-between offers of care by the Child and Adolescent Oral Health Service to assist in maintaining your child’s oral health. A dental pain relief and trauma service operates between offers of care to provide emergency treatment only. In the case of an emergency, telephone the Oral Health Call Centre on:

1300 300 850 Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 4.30 pm, excluding Public Holidays.

Sportscene
St A's 2014 Swimming Carnival
The St A's Swimming Carnival will be held at the Palm Beach Pool this Friday, 7 February for students aged 8 13 years (students in Year 2, turning 8 in 2014, have the option of attending). The carnival will start at 8:40am and finish at 2:45pm. All students in the relevant age groups are expected to attend, with class roles taken on the day. For the carnival to run smoothly, we ask that all students be at the pool no later than 8:20am, and be picked up at the above designated time. Students are to wear their sports uniform and house colour hat (available from Uniform Shop), bring along sunscreen, towel, rashshirt (optional, but recommended!) and swimmers (one piece for girls (nipper two piece fine) and no boardshorts for boys (skins OK), as well as, 2 x drinkbottles. House colour swimming caps will also be distributed on the day and must be worn during races. Freestyle (either 25m or 50m) will be the only compulsory stroke for the students. All details were discussed with the students, by our year 7 leaders, in their respective House Colour meetings. Once again students were placed in either Torpedo (old A division) or Electric Eel races. Students who only attend OHSC before and after school on Friday 7 February will be able to catch the bus departing St A’s at 8:15am and will return by 3:00pm from the po ol. If this is the case, please notify the front office.

Programs are available from the front school office prior to the day for 20 cents each or available by clicking on the Events link. Records can also be viewed by clicking on the Records link. Both Programs and Records are also displayed on the front school noticeboard.

District Swimming Carnival
Students aged 10-12 years and finish 1 or 2 (fastest times per age) from our school carnival, will only be eligible for the District Carnival if they have met the expected qualifying times. Names of successful students will be placed up on the front school noticeboard next Monday 10 February. These students will compete at Somerset College Pool on Tuesday 18 February. Palm Beach Currumbin Lions Junior AFL Club - Sign On
Club Sign On Saturday 8 February at Metricon Stadium and Sunday 9 February at the club for season 2014. We are located at Salk Oval – Thrower Drive, Palm Beach.
