For Three Flutes

Matthew Lee Knowles
September 2008 - October 2009

There are 15 sections to this piece, which can be played in any order and combination
- not all parts need be played in one performance.
Players should alternate as soloists, occasionally playing as a duo, or trio.
Each number represents a single duration,
so there are 135 durations in this piece.
Tempo can be freely chosen but must be adhered to strictly within a section.
1j =1j

(at q=120 = 0.125 seconds)

20 j = 1 semibreve + 1 q

(at q=120 = 2.5 seconds)

3012 j = 94 breves + 1 q

(at q=120 = 376.5 seconds, approx. 6 minutes)

102,417j = 3200 breves + 1 semibreve + 1 j

(at q=120 = 12, 803 seconds, approx 3.5 hours)

The duration of a total performance at q=120 would be approx. 20.5 hours
(this does not include internal pauses and gaps between sections)
