- Students will formulate a research question, select appropriate primary and secondary

sources, use Easybib develop notes, summarize and paraphrase notes in a finished product to produce a one to two page research paper.

Task Analysis: (What knowledge, skills and level of understanding do students need to be successful? )
Pre-Assessment: Literacy: All students should be able to define research, plagiarism, primary and secondary resources. Student knowledge will be determined using student response software (Nearpod) Primary Source is defined as an original document or first hand account. Secondary Source is defined as discussion, analysis, or interpretation of a first hand account or original document. Plagiarism is defined as not giving credit for a person’s idea, opinion, theory, facts, spoken or written words. Define Search Engine, Web domains, databases. Bibliography is a list of sources cited in MLA (Modern Language Association) format. Notes are summaries and paraphrasing from facts, ideas, and quotes from resources, thesis statement identifies the topic, question, and answer to the research report. ● Framing the Learning: Week1 Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Friday: Students will answer questions as a group about sources, research process, bibliography, plagiarism, notes, and research. Students will brainstorm 5 animals they like and a question for each animal Students will review the 12 step research process and use Google Docs to create a KWL chart about one animal they want to research and formulate a research question to gather information about . Students will watch a video defining primary and secondary sources. Students will write a 3 part thesis statement on Edmodo. Students will learn and sign up for EasyBib and find a primary source about the animal and create a citation using Easybib

Week 2 Monday: Tuesday: Students will use Easybib to evaluate and find 2 secondary sources about the animal and create 2 citations using Easybib. Export to Google Doc and Turn in Bibliography Google Doc. Students will watch a screencast video on how to create a digital note card using Easybib. Students will practice summarizing the main idea, and paraphrasing with explanation and elaboration. Students will create 5 digital notes from primary source

Wednesday Friday:

Students will use Easybib to collect, summarize, & paraphrase 5 digital notes from secondary source Students will use Easybib to collect, summarize, and paraphrase 5 digital notes from secondary source. Students will Print and Save digital note cards as PDF using Google Chrome. Upload pdf of notes to Easybib.

Week3 Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Friday: Students will organize notes into groups and create an outline using Easybib Students will compose introductory paragraph outlining topic, question, and plan to answer the question using Google Docs Students will compose 3 paragraphs supporting main idea with facts, details and paraphrasing. Students will conclude research report with conclusion paragraph and edit using Class Writing Dynamo subscription.
