Aileen Moloney: Aileen has First class honours degree and PhD in Biochemistry from the University College Cork, Ireland. This was followed by postdoctoral fellowships in neurobiology at the University of Cambridge and at present at the University of Oxford. As a keen member of two team sports and fund raiser for multiple charity events she is keen to apply her qualitative and quantitative skills to key issues in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries of the consulting sector. Arun K. Mishra: Arun has over 6 years of scientific project management experience with B. Tech from GGSIP University and a M.S. (Research) from IIT Delhi, India and TU Berlin, Germany and PhD from the University of Birmingham. Responsible for successful inception of several notfor-projects, at present he is looking for a transition from academia to consulting. Berna Demiray: A final year PhD candidate at the University College London (UCL), Berna has advanced her communication skills, achieving recognition through several awards at both internal and international conferences. Outside of the lab Berna has been an active volunteer and fundraiser for various charitable events, as well as team coordinator for the first TEDxUCL event. Experience working on a market research consulting project has provided the experience necessary to confirm a desire to work in consulting, while nurturing organisational and teamwork skills acquired throughout. With an international upbringing and an interest in languages has led Berna to achieve an advanced knowledge English, Turkish, French and German, as well as foundation in Flemish and Modern Greek. Elijah Nazarzadeh: Elijah was graduated with a PhD from Kings College London in Fluid Mechanics and outcome of his research are peer reviewed for International journals and at present have filed for a patent. Before moving to the UK, to continue his studies, he worked as manager and founder of the first outdoor paintball field in Iran and also worked in various positions as supervisor and hardware staff. Michael McKay: Michael was awarded his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Thereafter, he assumed post-doctoral research positions in Sweden and at the Emory Institute for Drug Development, USA. During this time, he realised an intrinsic interest in the research/business interface of pharmaceutical and life science R&D and started planning for a career in consulting.

PhD to Consulting Founders


Sabri Bora Erdemli: Sabri has recently made a successful transition from Academia to consulting and joined Capgemini Life Sciences. Sabri has a PhD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Bachelors degree in chemical engineering and two other technical masters degrees. He has worked for various non-profit organizations and has extensive project and operations management experience Joel Hooper: Joel received his PhD in biology from the University of London (Institute of Cancer Research) in 2006 and worked from 2007 to 2010 as an independent consultant. He co-founded PhD to Consulting with Bora in January 2011 and made a successful breakthrough in consulting at present works with IMS Consulting Group.

Conference Theme
In todays fast changing environment, we need unconventional and creative problem solving approaches and thats where a management consultant with an advanced degree like PhD can be very crucial. Interestingly, consulting firms have realised this and offer number of opportunities for people with advanced degree. This event will provide an interface between PhD students/graduates and various consulting firms, affording the firms a chance to introduce their companies and recruitment schemes.

Welcome Address
Dear Delegate, The PhD2Consulting committee would like to personally welcome each one of you to the inaugural PhD2Consulting Networking Conference 2012. As PhD students/graduates endeavouring to embark on a consulting career, the committee invites you to make the most of this conference, and to gain an insightful view of management consulting. The conference will offer an opportunity for all PhD students/graduates to gather together with key consulting firms to enhance their knowledge, realise their transferrable PhD skills and how to show case them and understand consulting recruitment processes. Doctoral training gives you high quality problem solving skills, intellectual curiosity and ability to drive for and achieve high quality goals, all skills that once tapped into are highly attractive features for consultancy firms. During this conference we will be focusing on the following few issues: - Explore how receptive the UK consulting industry is to PhD students/graduates - Scope for PhD recruits in consulting (emphasis on where a PhD might plug in to operations) - Consulting industry expectations of PhD students/graduates - Ideal skills a PhD recruit should have (quantitative, qualitative, etc) and how they may apply - Typical recruitment and assessment procedure (case interviews, competencies, etc.) - Establish any sector/industry specific demands for PhD students/graduates I would like to thank each of you for attending our conference and for bringing your expertise to this event. General Information
The PtC London conference event takes place at the Chadwick Building (B05 LT), University College London (Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT). Registration opens at 13:30 PM and the conference begins at 14.00. At this point, you will also be able to collect your participant badge, as well as your 25 refund for the deposit requested upon your initial registration for the event.

The program for this afternoon appears on page 7. There will be intermissions during the course of the afternoon, and light refreshments will be served. Finally, proceedings will conclude with the opportunity to take part of a case interview workshop, followed by the chance to network with both presenters and company representatives thereafter. Further details about the workshop and networking opportunity will be provided during the course of the afternoon.

Finally, there is a map on the last page of this booklet should you require assistance in getting directions about campus and the immediate UCL area. The organising committee members will also be on hand to answer any questions and queries you may have throughout the conference.
