Top engine mount inspection and replacement

(S60 D5 2003 model)


Ensure car is immobilised and in a safe position to work on and that engine is fully cooled

Inspection
Remove plastic engine cover (1) by pulling firmly upwards from all edges, cover unclips. Locate engine mount (2) to the rear right hand corner of the engine.

Flex the engine mount by slightly moving the stabilisation bar (3) Observe the rubber insert of the engine mount for cracks where the 2 radials meet the outer rim.

If cracks or splits are visible, obtain replacement part and proceed as below.

Removal and replacement


Tools required: Socket set with 10mm, 13mm, 17mm and 18mm sockets 17mm and 18mm ring spanners Torque wrench (Recommended) Locate and remove the bolt (4) passing through the centre of the engine mount rubber. a) Remove plastic end cap b) Secure bolt head with ring spanner c) Remove nut with socket wrench Locate and remove the 2 bolts (5) securing the stabilisation bar to strut mounts a) Secure bolt top with socket wrench b) Slacken bottom nut with ring spanner c) Unscrew from top while holding nut in ring spanner

Lift stabiliser bar away from engine compartment.

Remove black bracket from front of engine mount by removing 2 x 10mm bolts (6) Remove mounting bracket clamp (7) from right hand side of engine mount by removing 10mm bolt Remove engine mount from engine block by removing 3 x 13mm and 1 x 10mm bolts from the four corners of the mount casing.

Refitting is reverse of removal Ensure all bolts are torqued to manufacturers recommendations, take care not to overtighten small bolts securing brackets to engine mount casting.
