Piracy

Copyright Infringement: The unauthorized use of material that is covered by copyright law, in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works. Piracy: Copying or distributing protected works or products without the permission of the true owner/author of an intellectual property. Pros:  Gets new fans for artists  Great for indie groups  It’s a way to find ‘hard-to-get’ or ‘no longer in production’ songs  Higher concert sales due to higher artist awareness  Allows listeners to experience different genres of music risk free  Its free! Cons:  Loss in music sales  Song quality from programs such as Kazaa are regularly terrible.  Program networks like Kazaa and Limewire are full with malware.  Increased music piracy is the cause of a 29 cent tax on CDs in Canada  Vendors such as HMV lose sales.
