Fallen Gods.

My honour took me to a place Where I had to pray all night But the gods were worn and broken In the early morning light The high priest he said to me You must hold your honour dear Outside these temple walls There is naught but doubt and fear So I chased the spiders from their webs Swept the dust up from the floor I polished all the altar stones And hung a sign above the door And if you pass by the temple now Very late at night You will hear the sound of drunken cheer Under the neon lights Your honour has not served you much The high priest he said to me I said Sit down at the alter friend And I’ll happily serve thee He drank a double whiskey And a bottle of single malt Leapt on an idols beer-stained head And gave the sermon of the mount I know that some fall in the vat And never raise their head Some have abandoned wife and child And some of them are dead But I am the high priest now I give each man what he needs To some I give the cure To others the disease My honour took me to a bar Where I had to drink all night And all I saw were fallen gods In dawns first rays of light And all I saw were fallen gods In dawns first rays of light 08/10/2009
