False images fool gullible teenagers

More and more teenaged boys and
girls are getting worried about their
own bodies, because they compare
them to the retouched images of their
idols in magazines. Because of these
fake images, teenagers think that they
are ugly, their bodies are fat and they
lose self-esteem, while in reality,
bigger is better. Photo retouching
makes people feel worse about
themselves, and they turn to extreme
measures such as plastic surgery,
diets and steroids. It is not only
women and girls who are affected by
photo retouching. Men see pictures of
other men with big muscles and
sixpacks and then they look at their
own body in the mirror and say,
“Who’s that loser?” They lose self-
esteem, become depressive and turn
to drastic measures.

The media has an increasing impact
on women. This is because of the
pictures of photo shopped girls, ideal
families and friends in movies, and
articles which promote the new belief
of perfect bodies. Photo’s of young
beautiful girls makes women and
young girls wish that they were them.
Even though most women know that
they pictures are photo shopped it
remains a wonderful idea to look the
way that the girls in the magazines
look. Because women then try to look
like the girls in the pictures, due to
that, many health issues arise; these
include anorexia and bulimia. New
young actresses in movies also appeal
to the idea of perfect bodies for
women. The actresses seem to live

What’s the difference between a
normal google.com search and an
advance search? Well first and
foremost, you can use advance search
to find exactly what you want. Some
importanat tools are the “with all of
the words”, “with the exact phrase”,
“with at least one of the words”,
“without the words”, “Similar” and
“Links”. They are all equally usefull,
but different in their uses.
The “with all of the words” option
will return any site which contains all

This is most evident in teens, who

and their negative side-effects.

key is useful if you are unsure of
what you are looking for, and you just
want one of the words to come up in
the hit.

If people knew that many of the
images they see are retouched, I bet
they would be shocked. For example,
until I read the webpages assigned, I
thought that the pictures I saw in
magazines were real. I mean, I knew
that there was a bit of retouching for
small things and lighting effects and
so on, but I could never have guessed
that technology makes it possible for
pounds of fat could be removed, or
skin smoothed out, or a new chin

not able to be reached which is
devastating to the women who try to
base their lives on that.

The “without the words” fuction is
probably the one I use most. It allows
you to omit all the hits that include
one or more words. This is usefull,
especially if there is something
named the same as whatever you are
looking for, but in a different area.
Using this function would allow you
to omit all of those results.
“Similar” is a very useful function if
you’ve found something usefull. By
typing in the url and using this
function, you can find similar
websites.
Last but not least is “Links”. This
allows you to search for any sites that
link to the page.

I believe that photo retouching
contributes to negative body image.
For example, when a really famous
person, like a supermodel, happens to
be on a teen magazine, girls feel they
have to be like them to be attractive.
The effects then create maladies such
as bulimia and anorexia, which can
seriously impede a person’s health.
Perfected images can also affect
teen’s mental health. The teenager
will think he or she is not fit or thin
enough, and could make them
depressed, and may cause things like
alcohol and drug abuse. Photo
retouching also makes a fake image
of someone, which is bad because
you pay to look at these people in
magazines, so making fake photos
would be in ways stealing. Over all,
photo retouching is bad because it can
affect people’s lives in negative ways,
and gives false imagery to the public.

Advanced search, though not often
used, is one of the most
underestimated tools google has
developed. Some people
subconsciously use advanced search
already, for example when we add
quotation marks around what we
want to look for(which is saying
“with the exact phrase”) or by adding
a minus(-), which is like “without the
words”, where the words following
the minus are left away. Google
advanced search should be used more
often, because it is a very powerful
tool.

Personally, I feel that the magazines
that ‘perfect’ a person’s image give
off a negative body image for many
women and men. I feel that is wrong
to do this because women will feel
that they must look impractical and
unrealistic which will lead to
unhealthy practices. One unhealthy
and dangerous condition that this
developed when being exposed to
perfected images is anorexia.
Furthermore, men are also being
affected by perfected images and are
turning to drugs and unhealthy habits
to become more muscular. Some
drugs include steroids. In conclusion,
I believe that the magazines that

There are many secrets in this world
of ours- some small, some of
enormous proportions. You may
know of some of them- Blackbeard’s
treasure, the missing footage in the
Watergate tapes, the JFK
assassination. But there others.
Secrets that lay on the outskirts of
public consciousness, known only to
a privileged few. They have been so
closely guarded that it is
inconceivable that a layperson would
discover one of them. But today, the
inconceivable becomes the possible.
Today, the deepest, darkest depths of
human knowledge will be overturned.
Today, one of these secrets will be
unveiled.
Hiding behind small blue links,
lurking inconspicuously in the
shadows, is the Google Advanced
Search. Long considered to be an
urban myth, the existence of this
search tool has, in fact, long been

Most of the people around the world
comes to think of the ideal body
image as decided facts. The reason
for these is that the media around the
world is forcing for people-even
teenage girls to think to look down on
themselves besides the fact that those
women in the magazines are all re-
touched to look “perfect”.

The stakes are huge. On the one hand,
women who are insecure about their
bodies are more likely to buy beauty
products, new clothes, and diet aids.
It is estimated that the diet industry
alone is worth $100 billion (U.S.) a

thin, young, air-brushed female
bodies is linked to depression, loss of
self-esteem and the development of
unhealthy eating habits in women and
girls.

Anorexia Nervosa & Related Eating
Disorders, Inc. says that one out of
every four college-aged women uses
unhealthy methods of weight
control—including fasting, skipping

bevy of specialized search options,
the Advanced Search could be one of
the most powerful tools of the 21st
century, one that will replace the
nuclear bomb in modern arms races.
With such features as “With the exact
phrase” and “With all of the words”,
the Google add-on will change the
way we search for our information

When confronted by the discovery of
their Advanced Search, the secret
organization Google claimed, of
course, that “it’s been there the whole
time”. But even denial cannot mask
the stench of conspiracy. We have
deprived of this Google feature for far
too long. Not only does the tool allow
you to exclude certain phrases from
your search, you can ask for exact
phrases, include a list of words, and
search links that are similar to a web
site of your choice.
But enough of this. With every word I
type, a Google “executive” is getting
closer to hunting me down. I will

The issue of photo retouching is
becoming increasingly sensitive, what
with magazines being riddled with
ultra thin models such as Kate Moss,
Jessica Biel, and Liza Minelli. It
comes as no surprise that teenage self
esteem has hit an all time low. But in
these troubling times, we are lucky to
have idols to light the way in the
darkness of our insecurity, idols like
Harrison Ford. As you may or may
not know, Ford wasn’t the most
popular of kids in his high school:
Ford graduated from Maine East
High School in Park Ridge, Illinois,
where he claims he was picked on by
bullies and ignored by girls and also
voted ‘Boy Least Likely to Succeed’

Did Harrison give up? Did he resort
to anorexia or bodybuilding or
Pokemon? Nay!! Nay, I tell you!! He
transformed his lack of self-
confidence into success, his

unpopularity into power. It is true that
the media falsifies body image,
manipulating our self-respect to
impose their products on society. But
it is also true that we have heroes like
Ford to prop us up, like a tent in an
Oklahoma sandstorm. It is for this
reason that I decided to create the
Harrison Ford Appreciation Club, to
honor a great man (if in fact he can
still be considered a mere mortal).
But enough of this brouhaha. The
question remains, what can we, as a
society, do to stop these malicious
practices? Well, for a start, we could
murder influential magazine editors.
Or, for those more peacefully
inclined, we could boycott periodicals
with retouched images. We could
educate our young on the signs of
tampered photos. We could support
campaigns for real beauty, like that of
Dove. A journey of a thousand miles
starts with a single step, and if we
were each to do one small thing to
eliminate the manipulation of body
image by the media, the world would
truly be a better place.

The media has been giving young
people, teens, and even some adults
the wrong idea about what people and
them self look like. Magazines and
movies that have been edited and
perfected by computers are giving off
the wrong ideas that all the people in
them are perfect and every one should
be like them. The models in
magazines are made to look
extremely skinny with perfect smooth
skin and no blemishes. If you ever
really pay attention the people in
these pictures don’t even have birth
marks or scars. Now my question is
“Who doesn’t have a scar or a
birthmark somewhere on their
body?” This gives people the idea
that these people are perfect, and they
want to be like them. This leads to
people practically starve themselves
because they are desperate to be thin.

I think that our vision of beauty today
is so distorted because of photo shop
retouching. We see beauty as a
competition of who has the biggest
triceps and smallest waists.
Adolescents turn to magazine and
tabloids a source of entertainment and
all we see is models with unrealistic
faces and too-perfect bodies. Models
resort to starvation and athlete’s
resort to steroids and muscle
enhancing drugs. Men and women are
quickly becoming dissatisfied with
their bodies and will go to extremes
such as the use of steroids and
extreme yo-yo dieting. Personally I
think that the reason why we care so
much about the flaws on our bodies is
because of the media. People
constantly compare themselves to the
models and actresses they see on the
T.V, what they don’t realize is that
these bodies are obviously unrealistic.

Perfection is the highest degree of
proficiency, and with the effect of the
media, perfection has become an
impossible state of mind. The
messages that are being conveyed
through the media are no longer
reflections of reality. By showing
stick-thin girls in magazines like
“Seventeen,” and men with six-packs
on covers of men magazines, society
has come to believe that these people
are the idea of the perfect body.
When in reality, these “idols” on the
cover of magazines are nothing more
than airbrushed images. These
airbrushed images are directly linked
to the loss of self-esteem in girls all
over the world, and in unhealthy
eating habits.

It’s a fact, these day’s people just
aren’t as happy with their
appearances as they should be. Men
and women are becoming more and
more obsessed with the “perfect
body” and this has had hard effects
on the up and coming adolescence
and youth of today but who can be
blamed for this? The most common
source of the sudden surge of low self
- esteem hitting people today is the
media. Media is constantly
bombarding us with images of tall,
skinny women and buff men but this
really isn’t the reality we’re living in.
Why is it that we’re only seeing one

Moreover, magazines have increased
the emphasis that the ideal body for

such as Photoshop to edit real people
into unrealistic images.

Google website is a good way you
can use to find what you are looking
for in a less amount of time that
finding what you’re looking for on
the normal Google search engine. It
allows you to specify in more detail
what you want to look for which is
very good because it takes less time,
and it most likely provides you with
the best sites related to your topic.

In my personal opinion digital re-
touching is something that isn’t
noticed when we pick up a men’s
health magazine. When we see men
such as the star hunk from the hit
movie fantastic four Chris Evans we
think “Wow! Check out that beastly
dude! With the clean face with not s
sign of achene on his ace since he
was in middle school. Also he has a
perfect figure with all the ripping
biceps and triceps that chicks dig.”
We all think about it. But why do we
think about it? It’s because the
median has embedded slim and sexy
bodies as the right and ideal body
image. It’s as though the slightest bit
of fat is just not accepted. It’s okay to
be fit and healthy but there are certain
methods that must be followed to do
so. These things include eating right

I believe that retouching images of
someone creates a negative impact in
our world today. People who have
their pictures taken and have it
distributed all over the media
everyone obviously finds out about it.
Of course the photos have been
retouched and perfected but people
think they were that way from the
beginning. This allows the people to
want to be that way and to change
their appearance. This could lead to
depression and other negative factors

When you pick up a magazine today,
you’re bound to see an image of a
man or a woman who has been
digitally altered using photoshop.
They look amazing in almost all of
these cases, but they’re just not real.
The problem this causes is that some
people don’t understand this, and so
they try too make themselves look
like these false idols. They do this
through the use of diet pills, and
steroids, just to name a few. While
such products can give them the look
they want, they also do hidden
damage and the users don’t
understand this. It can also cause
eating disorders as girls try to lose
weight to look like their idols through
anorexia or bulimia.

Over the past few years magazines
have come under heavy fire for doing
computer retouching. I believe that
these photo retouching sessions are
bad and magazines should not do
them. First, people who see the image
of the perfect face will want to look
like that, but truly no one really looks
like that. Because of this teenagers
have gone to huge lengths to look like
these people, most of the time the
lengths are dangerous and have
severe effects on the health of those
teenagers. These things could include
anorexia and taking drugs to look
prettier. Certain people have began to
fight against these sessions like
actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

so far as to make them beyond the
norm and create images of people
unnaturally skinny or muscular. This i
believe is a negative effect of

unnatural beauty into a young
adolescents mind for they are the
ones who read magazines like these.

I think the media has a negative effect
on our body image because it creates
an unrealistic sense of beauty. All the
digital retouching that magazines do
makes people think that models
actually look that perfect, when really
it’s all done by computers. This is
negative because with so many young
girls reading magazines and seeing
models in ads it makes them think
that this is societies definition of
perfection. They then try to be this
skinny and beautiful when in reality
younger girls are starting to develop
eating disorders and become obsessed
with their looks because of all the
pressure to be these gorgeous teenage

I believe that perfect images, also
known as retouched images, aren’t
positively contributing to our world. I
have many reasons for this which
include jealousy and it gives the
wrong image out to the world. On the
other hand, even I have to admit that
people would rather see an attractive
person on the front of the magazine
then a person who is less attractive.
But mainly because only attractive
models reach the front cover of a
magazine, jealousy is created under a
certain amount of girls and even
boys. Girls get insecure about their
own body and boys even use steroids
to become stronger. For some girls
this even leads to become anorexic.

Photo retouching has increased
significantly over the past few years.
The media has and still is a major
contributer to how we perceive
perfection. The media has definitely
altered people’s views and
expectations on beauty. Nowadays,
there is mainly one preferred look
which is being skinny. The media has
influenced many through retouching
advertisements of many celebrities. If
you look in any modern magazine
you will find pictures of either skinny
women or buff men. As a result many
extremes measures such as lippo
suction are being regularly practiced
to obtain this accepted look. Steroids
use, especially by men, have also

Photo retouching is the number one
contributor to negative body images.
People all across the globe, women in
particular, believe that the perfect
supposed to look. Some people do
whatever is necessary to get a better
body, just because of the media in
their everyday life.

Search, the searches that came up
were greatly more specific in relative
to a normal search. The different
searches we used were, with
all,without, with at least one, exact
phrase, similar to, and lastly, linked
to. The first example of a search was
the “Atlantis continent.” When typing
in the with all section, a variety of
sites came up. However, when we

In my opinion, the media’s intense
retouching, especially on celebrities,
has certainly affected the society in a
negative approach. The self-esteem of
adolescents, especially young ladies,
has been corrupted by the media’s
obsession of the, not impossible but,
unreal body. The media’s retouching
skills leading to the creation of a
abnormally skinny girl, or a bulky
young man has led societies to
believe that these bodies are the

Photo retouching is a perfect example
of a negative body. People always
think that if they get rid of a big nose
or a little bit of flab they will look
better. But the truth is, that when
people experiment with photo
retouching they make themselves
look fake. Fake turns into plastic and
plastic into fantasy. Looking natural
without pounds of makeup or lights
everywhere to make you look like
you glow or take away just that much
fat, is a lot more graceful and
attractive. People have this

will give the researcher better results.
By saying “better results” i mean
results that are directly connected to

We learned that if you use the
Advanced search that you can get a
lower amount of hits that actually
relate to your topic. We used
examples like Atlantis continent
instead of Atlantis and we took out
the words movie shuttle and film that
way we don’t get hit with results not
concerning the continent. And this
actually worked we were able to just

One thing I am proud of is the fact
that i studied a lot for the final exams.
I started many weeks earlier reading
trough my notebook and later on the
book. I made note cards and went to
see teachers in the different subjects.
Of course I do care what grades I get
for the Final exams but now I now

and by doing the test I can not give
more than that. So I think that in this
case now when I’m still learning
English I can’t ask more form me
than just do my best.
At least I studied a lot, actually I’ve

I am proud of my math test. I got
98% out of 100%.The only thing i got
wrong was one sign that i forgot to
change. It still kind of bothers me
because I could have scored a 100%
