Studio photo review

Shloer bottle Date Taken: 27/01/2014 F/stop: 5.6= The aperture was used so I could get the effect I wanted which was to have an item in the front in clear focus and the second item in the back would be out of focus in blurred in this case the foreground item is the glass with the Shloer and the background item is the Bootle of Shloer Exposure time: 1/50 second= this allowed me to have an increase in light but also nothing major so it allows for a decent amount of light. ISO: 400= I took the photo at this setting because it will decrease the amount of graininess in the photo making it less sharp also with high amounts of light a high ISO is unnecessary.

This picture is of a drink known as Shloer which is a sparkling grape drink that is usually drunk at parties and special events. In this photo is a decorated glass that has been partly filled with Shloer red grape flavour and in the background is the main bottle of Shloer. I have taken this photo in an advertising manner since this photo would be used to advertise a product which in this case would be Shloer. In this photo i have used geometric shapes these are the glass which is a spherical shape since it is a glass and the bottle in the background. I took this picture in landscape because when i took the photo in portrait the photo would be too high and get to much information though i could have gotten the whole bottle i prefer getting the amount of the bottle i have because it shows the filled piece without getting to much empty and useless space. In this photo i have used space so you can determine the distance between the glass and the bottle of Shloer there is also a value of darkness to lightness which is at the fore ground the picture is brighter however as you follow the picture the further back the subject the darker it is. The angle i have taken this photo was i kneeled on the floor and rested the tip of the lens on the light box for some stabilisation i tried to use a tripod but it came out ineffective this was because I could not adjust the lens to a suitable angle so I knelled down which allowed me to take the picture. The background in this picture is a light box which means that the setting is made and not natural. The central focus in this picture is the glass with the Shloer in. The objective off this photo from another persons perspective is to advertise the brand and drink to a crowd of people the theme of this photo is the same and will be the same which is food and drink. The light I used in this photo was a single light bulb that was above the cup on the left side creating a shadow to the right hand side the reason for this is that it creates an extra effect to the picture. When I put this picture in Photoshop I sharpened it using unsharp mask by 100% after that I went onto curves and made it slightly darker the reason for this was to bring out the colour in the drink last I cropped the photo by the sides so they would stop right by the edge of the bottle and the glass. In Photoshop the first thing I did was sharpen the picture using un-sharp mask after that i cropped the photo to the sides of the items after that I darkened the picture with curves to bring more colour to the red of the drink in the glass.

Crunchy Nut Date Taken: 03/02/2014 F/stop: 3.5= I have used a low aperture because it allowed me to focus on my main subject which was in the centre of the page which was my box of cereal I also wanted the most back of the cereal to be in focus so that had also been accomplished. Exposure time: 1/80 second the reason I took the picture at this setting was because it was the lowest I could make it and still have pictures that were not blurred. Another reason for this setting is that it allowed the camera to make the picture brighter since there was very low light. ISO: 800 The reason the picture was taken with this I.S.O is so that I could increase the amount of light there was let in even if it meant sacrificing the amount it could be sharpened in Photoshop by making it more grainy. This picture is of the famous cereal known as Crunchy Nut that is owned by Kelloggs company which also owns Corn Flakes; the company does constant advertisement for this breakfast that usually puts across the picture that it is irresistible. In the picture there are two topics the box with the cereal in it and the bowl showing the actual content of the box and a spoon. In this photo i have taken the

direct approach but to add angle and direction into the picture i have changed the angle of the box and took the picture slightly to the right this has been done be cause the light box is small and does not allow the ability to move around and do flashy angles so most work has to be done with the actual content of the photo itself. This picture has been taken for advertisement purposes because it is a picture of a product and could be showed around for people to buy the product because they like what they see. In this photo i have made use of geometric shapes which are the bowl the box of cereal i have put the bowl in front because it allows people to view the product in real life before looking at the advertisement this is important because most people prefer to look at a real thing rather than a picture on a box. I have taken this picture in landscape because in portrait i would take too much background as well it would crop some of the box or bowl to get it in the picture this helps because all of the items in the photo are reconaisable therefore they are representational. The focus in this picture is the is the box this fact is easy to deduce because the Crunchy Nut in the photo are blurred in the foreground also they are at the right of the photo unlike the box which is at the centre of the page this affect has been done by using the smallest aperture possible. In my photo i have used a flash on my camera this was because my stand to hold my light had been damaged and i i am waiting for a replacement because of this i used my flash but this seemed to work because it illuminated the picture by the right amount allowing the picture to be taken without being blurred. I have used space in this photo but not as much as I normally do this is noticeable because there is no clear indicator at how far away the box is compared to the bowl. The angle i have taken this picture is kneeling down and free handed this is because my Tripod will not go down that low also it is easier to make adjustments at how I aim the camera at the subject this also affects the background because you can see the sides of the light box and see the composition since there is cream connecting to black and white at the bottom hand on the right hand side also the background setting is artificial since it has been created using a light box. In Photoshop I darkened the picture to see if I could get rid of the light flare on the box however this only lessened the effect by a small amount and did not really work after this i then sharpe3ned the picture using un-sharp mask.

Apples Date Taken: 09/02/2014 F/stop: 8= I took the picture with the low aperture because I wanted to make the picture focus on the apple slices and the background blurred so it would add emphasis on to the main topic of the picture which is the actual apple itself. Exposure time: 1/100 of a second= The reason I took the photo was to darken the light to counter act the bright light of the tungsten light which made shadows at the back of the light box. ISO: 800= The reason I had such a high a high aperture was to counter act the light problem since a low ISO would make the picture too dark and would cause a problem that a flash and the light could not stop. This picture is off an apple I have cut up into five pieces. The picture contains an apple I have cut up into multiple pieces resting on a chopping board with a knife at the edge of the board. In this photo I have taken in a forty five degree angle the reason for this was so I could get an interesting angle on the pictures. The picture has been taken for advertisement purposes since the way it has been taken would be used to show of the apple and why a person should buy the product. I have used both Geometric and Organic shapes in this photo I have done it because it balances out the picture since if I only showed the apple the picture would look boring but having geometric shapes allows the picture to have a more diverse feeling to it. Like with most of my pictures I have taken the picture in land scape because in portrait I would get too much unused space as well as in Portrait the picture would have a much more condensed and squashed look to it. In my photo the items are used are all representational this is important because when doing studio work if an item was unrecognisable to

make sure of this I used tungsten light. The objective off this photo was to show the status of the apples and try to make the appealing to people so they may buy them. In my picture I have used space in my photo like I normally have to show the distance between objects and allow viewers to work out the sharpness of the blade since it has not been embedded into the apple slices. When i put this picture in Photoshop the only thing that needed to be done was sharpening the reason for this was that if i sharpened the picture there was a chance that I could make the knife seemed sharper than a blunt instrument.

Dr Pepper Date Taken: 09/02/2014 F/stop: 8= I have used a low aperture so that I could get the items in the foreground in focus because of this the two items are in focus and the background is as well however it does not matter due to the fact that there is nothing interesting in the background or anything that could be picked up. Exposure time: 1/125 of a second= I have taken this picture with a low shutter speed to make sure that I did not take too much light in the picture because if I did take too much light then the picture would be bright and unusable. ISO: 800= I had the ISO at a medium setting due to the fact that it is a decent number to have it for general picture taking since anything lower would darken the pictures quite considerably This picture is of the famous brand of Dr Pepper. The picture contains two items on the left is a Dr Pepper two and a half litre bottle and on the right is a glass filled with a substance. The reason I have filled the glass with Dr Pepper is so that it can show the quality of the drink in a much better light then rather its just being shown in an un empty bottle. For this photo I have taken the direct approach but I took it on a tripod the reason for this was because of the limited space that you have in a light box so it is incredibly difficult to get other shots so I had to take for the simple approach however to try and make the picture look better I placed the glass in front of the bottle and to the right so the viewer could easily see the space between the two. As well as this there is a large clash between colours of the items and that off the background however that is necessary in studio work as it helps the picture since the items are suppose to be representational. The reason I took this photo is to advertise the product and perhaps convince people to buy the product and maybe even tell others. For his picture I took it in portrait because I needed the height of the full item and if the3 photo was taken in landscape I would get too much useless space and I would not be able to get close enough to the topic. In this photo I used a tungsten light which I put behind the bottle of pop that I hung on the edge of the walls this was because my stand had a piece missing and I had to send it back since it had just been opened. In my picture there is a decent contrast in colours since the colour of the liquid is black but the bottle has red white black and yellow which stand against the background which is artificial since it has been made. When in Photoshop the first action i did was to sharpen the picture after I had done that i cropped the top and the sides so it would just be the bottle the reason for this was because the rest of the original picture was messy after i did that i brightened the picture using curves since it was slightly dark.

Grapes Date Taken: 09/02/2014 F/stop: 8= Because I wanted to have the front grapes blurred but the title of the product in focus so to accomplish this task without the use of Photoshop i had to use a low aperture and focus on the subject in the middle Exposure time: 1/80 of a second= With this picture I used a tripod but I was lacking the right amount of light even with my tungsten bulb therefore I had to have a low shutter speed so it could capture the image and allow enough light in. ISO: 800= To help with the lack of light I used a high ISO which would allow the picture to have an adequate amount of light however because of this the picture will be more grainy if sharpened This picture is of Morrisons seedless grapes. The content of the picture is a small vine of the grapes on the left heading into the bottom left corner and on the right is the small plastic crate that holds more of the fruit. For this picture I took the crate and angled it so it would be facing towards the camera but not directly to do this I put the crate at a small angle which is not noticeable at first but with time will be spotted. In the picture I have used both a geometric and an organic shape the first is the plastic crate that holds the organic shapes which is the grapes. The reason I took this photo was to advertise Morrisons grapes and persuade people to buy the product. I have taken this picture in free hand and horizontal the reason for this is that if I had took the picture in portrait there would have been to much space above the photo also the end result that the picture would have been squashed and the topic would not be as big. In the picture everything is representational because i believe that when you see a photo you should be able to recognise the object this is useful

and in studio work that is used for advertisement purposes since the viewer needs to recognise the product sold. In my picture the main subject and item I have focused on is the box of grapes this is because even though the viewer knows what the product is they do not know who or which brand this particular set of grapes belong to. For light I did not have more than a small tungsten light and because of the limited pace in the studio which is required for standing I had to place it on the walls on the left side because of this it lit up the product well however it created a shadow however this is not a problem because you do notice the shadows unless they are mentioned. To take this photo I used a light box which is an artificial object that allows me to take a picture in a small confined place. In Photoshop i only needed to do a few simple things the first og which was to sharpen the picture using its filter options then I darkened the picture slightly to bring out the colour of the grapes.

Sandwich Date Taken: 09/02/2014 F/stop: 8= For this picture I wanted to have the front in detail and the back blurred so to accomplish this I had to use a low aperture since it would blur the background and keep the foreground clear and precise. Exposure time: 1/160 of a second= Since i had to do this photo handheld because the tripod would not be able to get into the position needed a fast shutter speed had to be used so it did not blur the picture.

ISO: 800= To combat having to have a low exposure time i needed a high ISO so that it would bring more light into the picture. This picture is of a sandwich I made using bread and ham. The content of the picture is of the sandwich made using ham butter and bread by the side is the knife if used to butter the sandwich and both of these are on a black plate from IKEA. For this photo I took it from the direct approach but I did it free hand so I could get a part Ariel view angle the reason for this angle is that it would show the whole plate and items instead of taking it full on which would make it boring. The reason i took this photo was for advertisement purposes even though my cooking skills arent anything noteworthy the sandwich is good enough to show in a picture. In this photo I took it in landscape because like with most pictures if taken in portrait I would have too much unused space and it would squish the picture together and I would not be able to get such a close shot. In my photo I have used both Geometric shapes and Organic shapes the geometric shape would be the knife in the foreground that extends to the back of the picture and the plate on which the knife and sandwich sits on. The organic shape in the picture is the bread and meat because the bread is made out of wheat that use to be alive and the ham use to be a pig rolling around the mud. The space in this photo is used to try and show some relation between the objects however because there is no real space in front of the camera it is hard to work out the distance in the image. For this picture i used a tungsten light at which I placed on the edges of the top box at the back so it could light the subject without creating any obvious shadows. Because this was done in a light box the background is artificial and not real. In Photoshop the first thing I did was to sharpen it using un sharp mask after this had been done i made it slightly brighter since the original was a bit too dark.
