March 2014 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian, I want to bring the following items to your attention in this March Newsletter:

School Achievements
Scoil Chrost R won the Pan Celtic National Song Contest in Carlow on Saturday night last and they will now represent Ireland in April at the International Pan Celtic Festival in Derry. This is a fantastic achievement for the children involved and their music teachers Ms Vaughan, Mr Garry, Mr Crehan, Ms Behan and Ms Flanagan. We are so proud of them all and we will have more details for you during March and April. Well done to our music group from 5th Class who took part in a live RTE Radio broadcast from Cloughleigh Oratory on Sunday February 23rd. This was a very positive experience for all involved. We are grateful to Fr. Tom OGorman for including the school in this event and thanks to Ms Vaughan, Ms Troy, Ms Behan, Ms de Barra and Ms Flanagan for organising the music. Our Indoor Camogie Team were runners up in the Clare Finals. It was our first time ever reaching the Indoor final and this was a brilliant achievement for the girls team along with their coaches Mr Harrison and Ms Flanagan. Congratulations to the children who received the sacrament of Confirmation recently. Thanks to our excellent choir and musicians who helped to make the ceremony very special for the confirmation class and their families and friends.

There was a fantastic response to our clothes collection fundraiser and thank you for your support here. All the clothes have been taken away and we dont know yet how much money was raised. I will let you know in the April Newsletter the amount we received for the clothes. The next fundraiser will be a Skipathon. The children really enjoy this event each year and skipping is a very healthy activity that we encourage the children to do during our break times in Scoil Chrost R. Mr Harrison will be writing to you soon about our Skipathon fundraiser. To help fund our upcoming Pan Celtic Trip and overnight stay in Derry, OBriens Shop beside the school are selling raffle tickets for a very nice hamper. These tickets can be bought in OBriens Shop.

School Uniform
Our school uniform is very important and it is special to our school. All children must wear their full uniform every day at school except the days that they have PE. The uniform includes the tie and unfortunately a number of children are not wearing their ties. Please make sure the tie is worn every day and if you need a new one, they can be bought for just 3 from Ms Sheehan or the Secretary. The children must wear their full school tracksuit on PE days. We want the children of Scoil Chrost R to be well presented at school and it is very important that they wear their full clean uniform every day. Thanks for your support on this matter.

Parents Council and Board of Management

We are delighted to have a newly elected Parents Council and I wish them well. The officers elected are: Chairperson: Joe OConnell, Secretary: Brd Mulqueen, Joint Treasurers: Festus Ugwueru and Billy Cusack, Committee Members: Sinead Franks, Leanne Dinan, Fiona OBrien and Karen Hassett. The new parents representative elected to the Board of Management is Joe OConnell. I wish Joe well during his time on the Board of Management and thank him for volunteering.
