Airborne LIDAR Bathymetry Services

Fugro Pelagos, Inc. offers highly efficient, cost-effective solutions to coastal zone and riverine mapping projects, utilizing the latest generation in Airborne LIDAR Bathymetry (ALB) technology, the SHOALS-1000T. The company has a long history of providing high-resolution hydrographic surveying and seabed mapping services to both industry and government, and with the introduction of SHOALS-1000T-based ALB surveys, our portfolio of services is greatly enhanced. The SHOALS-1000T is ideally suited for coastal zone surveys. Using this system, Fugro Pelagos can rapidly and safely collect data across the land / sea interface, including navigation channels, jetties and adjacent shorelines. It is a portable system that can be installed on suitable aircraft of opportunity, allowing costeffective operations worldwide, even in the most remote areas.

The system can also be used to map shallow, clearwater river environments, including those in alpine terrain, when flown from a rotary wing aircraft. For the first time ever, river engineers now have a complete representation of the river channel and floodplain, allowing them to study hydraulic conditions as they relate to fish habitat, sediment transport, flooding and levee configuration. The SHOALS-1000T is the only laser bathymeter in the world that provides both a hydrographic and topographic mode of operation within the same airborne sensor and is configurable in mid-flight at the switch of a button. In addition, the system comes fitted with a co-registered digital camera, providing high quality images at one frame per second. In addition to acquiring bathymetry, the SHOALS1000T can also be used to image the seabed. Fugro is the first and only commercial survey company in the world to offer high-resolution reflectance imagery of the seabed or riverbed as a bi-product of an ALB survey. This is analogous to multibeam backscatter imagery and can be used effectively for geologic and benthic habitat classifications in the coastal zone. Fugros ALB services provide a complete remote sensing solution for the coastal zone and riverine environments. Deliverables can include integrated bathymetric / topographic Digital Elevation Models (DEM), water surface elevation models, high-resolution bottom imagery, diffuse attenuation (water clarity) maps, down-looking digital imagery and numerous photogrammetric products of the coastal or riverine strip.

provide comprehensive maps in the coastal zone to any required depth. No other survey company in the world has more experience with ALB than Fugro. The company has been operating ALB systems since 1994 and has conducted over 435 projects during this period. Surveys have been conducted both in the United States and abroad, including Guam, the Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, West Indies, Portugal, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Japan, Morocco, the Philippines, Palau and Kenya. Over the past decade, the company has gained operational experience with the SHOALS-200, SHOALS-400, SHOALS-1000T, CHARTS and LADS systems. While the companys ALB business is managed by Fugro Pelagos in the United States, the technology can be deployed virtually anywhere in the world via Fugros global network of over 250 operating companies in 60 countries. Domestically, Fugro Pelagos maintains offices in San Diego, Anchorage, Honolulu and Stennis, where it provides ALB services on existing contracts with NOAA, USACE, NAVO and other government agencies. These services include hydrographic charting, nearshore habitat evaluation and classification, riverine mapping and coastal zone monitoring, as well as port and harbor surveys.
