Documentary Scripting
Sequences
Introduction (1-1.5 mins approx.): Showing the differences between a normal ordinary fan and our different super fans (see below). Briefly introducing who are characters are their name, their hero. Fan section: Lady Gaga & Girls Aloud (3-3.5 mins each) o Cross-cutting the stories together. Idea is to build the climax gradually making it more dramatical by leading to the disadvantages/problems at the end of each story e.g. starting with their obsession which leads to any financial/social problems Bodyguard section (2 mins approx.) Stories of superfans and how determined they are to meet their desired hero Ending (1-1.5 mins approx.): Concluding the documentary, perhaps focusing on upcoming gigs or events planned (anything major)
Interviews
Public interviews for montage: using a white backdrop so that the audience can instantly recognize it is an interview and to make the montage theme consistent (they will all have the same white background) Fan interviews: MUST generally add to the understanding of the characters o Showing fan products in the background i.e. posters o In their natural environment their bedroom or anywhere in their house o Iconic fan backgrounds: outside a concert venue, etc Simple question + answer style however try to focus more on our characters talking for themselves, so that when we ask questions it doesnt seem forced and more importantly fake or unrealistic Following the journeys of our characters to an upcoming gig o Trying to focus on the extra step they will take to meet their hero This is currently in progress unfortunately there are no recent upcoming gigs for both our fans so we are currently thinking of something similar which we can follow
Actuality
Cutaways
Idea of threads: panning/tracking shots of our fans products (e.g. fan posters, tickets, clothes, etc). Anything which relates to being a superfan Actuality cutaways: showing our super fan engaging with their hero i.e. watching a performance online, looking through old photos or concert tickets
Commentary
Narrator: Someone in mid/late 20s whose voice can associate with the BBC 3 target audience. Generally an inviting and informal feel so the audiences feel comfortable and not being patronized. o Gender isnt entirely important we are aiming more for a unique voice which flows the narrative and more importantly stands out and engages with our audience
Music
General informal style of music throughout must be inviting, entertaining and to an extent subtle so that the audience dont become distracted by the soundtrack The idea of potentially using a clumsy and funny soundtrack/effects to introduce our super fans emphasizing that they are different and arent ordinary fans Music composition gradually becoming more serious following the same tone and style as the narrative
Archive/stills
Fan products, like shown in the giveaways. This will include fan photos, memories, tickets, clothes, accessories, etc. Fan threads + timeline: showing our fans key moments relating to their hero (i.e. concert dates), similar to Joyce Vincent doc. Background could include fans products
