Dear Members of the Board

April 15, 2014

It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as Executive Director of the Gertrude B. Fox Environmental Center. If the Board desires, I can make this resignation effective April 30, 2014, to give the Board time to find my replacement or the resignation can be effective immediately. As you all know, this center and organization have been my life’s work for the past 13 years, and I have nothing but pride and tremendous satisfaction as I recall our journey from a vision to a tangible accomplishment shared with 225 students, bolstered by tremendous support from the community and members of the Fox Environmental Center Board of Directors. Restoring a condemned building, earning placement for the Mill on the National Historic Registry, working with an amazing corps of students, volunteers, and interns, winning the President’s Environmental Youth Award, and teaching environmental science to thousands of children: These are some of our achievements, and we all know that the Fox has countless achievements ahead. I will help in any way I am needed to assist in this transition to new leadership, and I hope to be of help in the future as one of the Fox volunteers, especially with our ongoing habitat and stream bank restoration work in Monocacy watershed. However I am needed as a volunteer, I will try to be available to help. Thank you so much to the Gertrude B. Fox Environmental Center Board of Directors for the honor of serving as your Executive Director for all these years. We have kept the goals of Gertrude Fox alive, and I’m sure that under new leadership her spirit will live on in the beautiful historic building that bears her name. Sincerely, Karen Dolan
