Adalyne Cummins, Graduating Senior at Cleveland School of Science & Medicine awarded 2014 AXA Achievement Scholarship

Cleveland, Ohio – Adalyne Cummins, a graduating senior at John Hay’s Cleveland School of Science & Medicine (CSSM) is the State of Ohio awardee of the 2014 AXA Achievement Scholarship. The $10,000 Scholarship will be used to help pay expenses at Barnard College in New York City, where Adalyne has been accepted and will begin attending classes in September. The AXA Achievement Scholarship was launched in 2003 and scholarships are awarded annually to one student from each of the 50-states as well as from Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. The 2014 awards were announced on April 14th; see the link for the press release below. In addition to the AXA Scholarship, Adalyne has also been named Valedictorian for her 2014 graduating class at CSSM. In addition to scholastic achievements, the AXA Scholarship takes into consideration students accomplishments outside of the classroom. Adalyne’s activities and accomplishments outside the classroom include the successful founding of a student book club at CSSM; the Girl Scout Silver Award; internships and shadowing experiences at NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Systems, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and participation in the Cleveland Youth Rowing Association; and, classes at Cleveland State University and NewBridge Cleveland Center for Arts & Technology. Adalyne has also benefited from participating in the Cleveland Foundation College Now Scholars program. The program provides guidance and support to the 50 top-performing high school students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The assistance helped her obtain a 4-year scholarship to Barnard College of Columbia University valued at more than $150,000. Barnard is the most selective private women's liberal arts college in the nation. In addition to a liberal arts degree, Adalyne is also considering a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia.
