I am an instructor with dual appointments in both the School of Education and the School of
Business. Mr. Ben Nesbit was a student in my Spring 2009 “Research in Informational and
Learning Technologies” course in the Graduate Program in the School of Education and Human
Development. I was very impressed with his ability to collaborate and the quality of his applied
research on improving EFL using innovative information and learning technologies. In the class we
focused on Action Research, a methodology applied by practitioners to evaluate the impact of
different approaches on student learning and motivation. Mr. Nesbit collaborated with a classmate
to look at implementing Web 2.0 and project-based learning in EFL programs in Korea. In their
work they were trying to identify ways to prompt students to be more engaged learners and be more
comfortable with full language acquisition including speaking and writing, not just reading. The
interventions they designed prompted not only more engaged students with higher skill levels, but
also more motivated students.

On a few occasions Mr. Nesbit expressed the effect this course had on him, and how it expanded his
tool kit as a teaching professional. I have every confidence that his attitude, insight and interest in
being an outstanding instructor will serve your institution well. His skills should port easily across
disciplines, and with a range of student abilities. I highly recommend him, I have no doubt he will
continue to seek out new challenges and will succeed in any direction he chooses to go.
