Developing Handy Tutorials by Using Digital Charts Mohamed Hassaan University of Houston-Clear Lake INST 5035 Creating Digital Resources Dr. Richard Smith February, 2014

Running head: UNIT TWO, RESEARCH TOOLS AND DATA MANIPULATION TOOLS Hassaan 2 Intro My name is Mohamed Hassaan and I will earn my Master of Science this semester the spring of 2014. I am majoring in Instructional Design and Technology. At UHCL I had meet with great professors who stretched my abilities in doing researches and proposals using technology and many tool. My Area of Research For me, my personal and professional area of research and interest is including: Training Developing (as trainer and instructional designer I do the best to update my abilities and the tools I use to deliver a face to face training session or online ones for individuals or groups) Creating Tutorials Resources (including handy printouts, digital files, and video tutorials)

Using Digital Charts There is no doubt that using charts (especially if it is digital and colorful) will make any research or tutorial documents more attractive visually. Digital charts are now everywhere and you can design them form Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Open Office too. For example, I will design pre training goal analysis document for using CourseSites. The document is really positively different with charts. Sample

Goal Analysis Title: Design Interactive Online Instructional Activities Learning goal: Removing all obstacles that might delay the beginning of first training session by: detecting any technology gab, calculating attendance number, and arranging location Start designing interactive online instructional activities

Major steps in Goal Analysis:

Categorize attendance into two groups if a technology gap appraised Calculating the attending number to determine how many groups are needed to fit all Arrange the location, who want face to face training session and who want it online Creating charts and tables using software like tree chart, or by using Word and Excel Creating videos using Jing, Zentation, Screencast O Matic, Livestream Procaster and upload them to the CourseSites LMS

Running head: UNIT TWO, RESEARCH TOOLS AND DATA MANIPULATION TOOLS Hassaan 3 Learner characteristics: Serious higher education faculty and staff, school teachers too and instructional designers who are willing to set up their schedule to attend the training. Learners should cooperate following the goal analysis steps as described

A learning outcome aligned with learning goal: Reducing any waste time before start Make those beginners with technology and PC use feel confident before, during, and after the training Start designing interactive online instructional activities

Inserting Charts Here I will use a simple chart that we can have it from Open Office, Microsoft Word or Excel. I found that he best are deserve that chart is the Major Steps in Goal Analysis. I picked up these steps because they creating like a circle and the order may be important as the chart here help to make it easily understood.

1- Categorize attendance into two groups if a technology gap appraised

2- Calculating the attending number to determine how many groups are needed to fit all

4- Creating charts and tables using software like tree chart, or by using Word and Excel

3- Arrange the location, who want face to face training session and who want it online

5- Creating videos using Jing, Zentation, Screencast O Matic, Livestream Procaster and upload them to the CourseSites LMS

Main Learning Goal Removing all obstacles that might delay the beginning and start designing interactive online instructional activities

We may use different chart design and add more charts as it fit to your goal and will not make your page too much colorfully or crowded with shapes.
