Translation
Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man. (Psalm 43, v.1, King James Bible)

Editorial Conventions The prefatory staves at the start of the piece show the original clef, staff signature, and first note for each voice, together with the mensuration symbol the piece. Editorial accidentals are placed above the notes concerned and remain operative throughout the bar. The underlay is entirely editorial and is enclosed between square brackets.

Source London, British Library MS R.M. 24.d.2 (c.15881606), f.92v. At head of f.92v: mr: Jo: mundie: vj: vc:.

Notes of the Readings of the Source Mundys motet is presented as a wordless score. The only indication of the text is the title, but it was evidently a setting of Psalm 43, verse 1, which fits the music satisfactorily. The staves on each page have a series of regularly spaced vertical lines running continuously from the top staff to the bottom. These serve to co-ordinate the vertical alignment of the voices and so effectively function as barlines, though the number of beats each bar contains is variable. In the list of readings below the order is (1) bar number; (2) voice; (3) reading of the source, 1 soprano: mensuration symbol is in left-hand margin, title Judica me deus below staff at beginning 2 tenor 2: above staff above first F, above staff between second and third F 23 baritone: the two quaver Fs are a single crotchet F 25 baritone for F 32 tenor 2: first G is F
