INTASC Standard, Description, and Rationale

For this particular project I chose to make a small book including my findings through interviews, class discussions, my textbook, and my own personal reflections on what it takes to become a good teacher. I believe this falls under standard # 2 because Ive taken different kinds of input and applied them to this project to help myself and others learn how to become a good teacher with the understanding that no one way is correct.

Chapter 1

Traits of an Effective Teacher

One particular trait that myself, my interviewees Mrs. Parish and Mrs. Smith, and the author of Teach Mrs. Koch, have all agreed upon is that you have to be an extremely caring individual. You cant possibly supply children with the education they deserve without caring for them so, one of the first things you should do is make an appropriate caring teacher student connection with each individual student. In addition to making you a better teacher, truly caring for your students increases your chances of having cooperative students. One of the greatest results of caring for your students is that you are teaching them to care as well because students learn through your actions as well as your words.

Chapter 2

Philosophies, Values, and Beliefs

In order to be a good teacher you should know what you believe in, what you should value, and you should be able to formulate a philosophy about teaching. Mrs. Parish seemed to be extremely passionate about this section, and said that teachers should be loving, and that the rest will follow suit because when you love people, you care enough to provide them with what they need. Your students should be more then kids that will be here for a year and then forgotten, they should feel like family to you. You should always first and foremost value your students because they hold the key to our future. On a comical note when we are old and gray it would be comforting to know that we helped form caring individuals because we may need them just like they need us. My philosophy about teaching is that teachers are the heart of the universe.

Chapter 3

Most Important Quality of a Good Teacher

There was a lot of input when it came to what the most significant quality of an educator is. Mrs. Smith said you have to be extremely patient because sometimes it takes children a while before they understand things, but if you are gentle with them one day it will pop on like a light bulb. She also shared that if you are impatient that will eventually make you an unhappy teacher because things will never go how you want them to when you want them to in a classroom. Mrs. Linda says you should be loving because teachers are like second parents to their students. Mrs. Koch says that you should be a caring person. I think that all of these qualities are wonderful and fall under just being a humble individual.

Chapter 4

Trait, Quality and/or Behavior I Possess

We all have been through trials and tribulations in our life. Sometimes rough times at home, school, work, and in life period take a toll on us tremendously, but we have to remember to not let it change the good qualities in us. One quality I possess that I try to keep is humility. I try to look at things that we go through like tests. We may struggle, sweat, and even cry, but if we never let go of who we were at our most happy and humble moments then we have passed those tests. Remember who are and stay focused dont let negative distractions put you in the wrong direction.
