1. For five points of extra credit on the unit test:
Complete the entire political map of Africa for up to 5 points of extra credit on the unit test. To receive all 5 points you must have completed the entire map; if not fully completed I will count the number of countries labeled and determine what percentage of the 5 points you have earned (i.e. if you complete 20% of the map you receive 1 point). The map must be turned in to me BEFORE the unit test, I will not accept them after you have taken the test.
2. For ten points of extra credit on the unit test: Write at least two page typed essay to the prompt below. The paper must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, with no more than 1 inch margins and turn it into me BEFORE the unit test, I will not accept them after you have taken the test. To receive full credit, adhere to the formatting guidelines above, answer the prompt in logical fashion, and use proper grammar. The best essays will include not only a list of foreign customs, but a description of them and an explanation of the significance and history of those customs. Ask yourself, Why does this culture do this? rather than just asking what they do. Prompt: Compare and contrast the cultures of Oxford, MS and those of a Middle Eastern or African people. Be sure to include things such as societal structure (i.e. social hierarchy, matrilineal or patrilineal culture) gender roles, openness to foreign ideas, and rites of passage for children.
10 points is the maximum amount of extra credit that you can receive. Even with extra credit a 100 is the maximum score available on the unit test.
