This Way

For what is age and what is race, When your smiles blossom on my face, And I can share my soul with you, Just as I've always longed to do, And you see some steel glint in me, Though I feel so frail and flimsy, And you make me the proudest fool For love, you, and your touch so cool? What is age when time will slip by Through eternities like a sigh, And what we have's but a vision Of our joy, should our decision Be firm and our devotion true? In perfection1 I'd still love you. Age here's just an imagined thing, But love is an eternal ring. What is race? Love and God are blind2, Though they rejoice that we did find Each other for bliss and passion To make art as we would fashion, Free of the constraints3 man has set And rich because our love we let Carry us to greater treasures Than the biased4 ever measures.

Then, what is age and what is race? Are they greater than love's solace5 To love for age and race alone Would be the worst tragedy known, For shouldn't we love from the soul, Which our heart and mind can't control, And thus be oblivious6 when We look upon our true love's skin? What is age and what is race, then, But the mere excuses of men To debase7 true love so their lust Seems better than it is? They trust Too much in youth to have real love, Since vanity's all they dream of. But our communion8 who else has? Love knows no bounds; it is like jazz. Yea, what is age and what is race? Nothing when compared to thy9 face, Sincerity, purity, grace. My heart belongs no other place. Be thy age and race what it may, Just know I'd love you anyway. Heed not the fools and what they say, For they will never feel this way.
