Re: Texas Poll; GOP Run-off – PATRICK LEADS DEWHURST BY 14 POINTS

TWG fielded a statewide survey May 8-11, 2014 among 456 likely Republican runoff voters in Texas.
Respondents were selected using random digit dialing from sample and were qualified by being
registered and considered likely to vote in the May 27
th
Republican runoff election for Texas
Lieutenant Governor. Live telephone interviews were conducted and both landline and mobile
telephones were included in the study’s sample. Margin of error: +/- 4.5%.
WITH JUST TWO WEEKS REMAINING IN THE REPUBLICAN
RUN-OFF ELECTION FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
SEN. DAN PATRICK LEADS DAVID DEWHURST BY 14 POINTS

• Patrick is now the choice of 50% of the run-off electorate statewide
• Patrick leads Dewhurst among key sub-groups of likely voters

Voted in
Statewide Base ’12 Runoff Vote for
Total GOP* & ’14 Prim.+ Cruz ’12++

Dan Patrick 50% 55% 55% 66%

David Dewhurst 36 32 36 23

+14 +23 +19 +43

*Base GOP = Republican, Conservative, votes for all or most GOP candidates and is Pro-life.
+Voted in the 2012 Dewhurst v. Cruz runoff for US Senate as well as the March, 2014 GOP primary for Lt.
Governor.
++Voted for Ted Cruz in the 2012 runoff for US Senate.

WITH PATRICK LEADING DEWHURST BY DOUBLE-DIGITS ACROSS-THE-
BOARD, IT IS NO SURPRISE HIS FAVORABILITY IS SIGNIFICANTLY STRONGER

Favorable Unfavorable Net FAV

Dan Patrick 52% 19% +33

David Dewhurst 45 32 +13

Conclusion: Despite millions of dollars in false, desperate attack ads by David
Dewhurst against Senator Patrick, Dewhurst is in no better position than when he
started the runoff campaign. Senator Patrick’s commanding lead with only two weeks
to go until Election Day makes him the clear frontrunner to win the Republican
nomination for Lieutenant Governor.
