Job Research Paper
The world is a strange and complex place, full of mysteries about how life functions, and the
many problems that come with them. For people like me who arent content with just learning about
the problems that plague the biological world, we become biochemists. Our goals may vary from
medical research in the development in new medicines, to independent product research about
different chemicals, and the way they affect our health, but we all share one common goal; to discover
and create. In order to have a career as a biochemist, there are many requirements that must first be
met. These include a doctorate in biochemistry, biophysics, biomedicine, or other related fields as a
generally accepted minimum (Summary). The cost for a Ph. D. at MSU, my school of choice, is around
$206,216 (Student). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Biochemistry field is expected to
grow by 19% over the next 8 years, which is much higher than other occupations. Biochemistry is a small
but growing field however, so there will only be about 34,600 projected jobs in 2022, meaning lots of
competition for employment. The growth in the field is thanks to the aging baby boomers needing more
medicine to live, and the need for greener fuels and renewable energy. Biochemistry can prove to be a
difficult field to get into, but all the proper certificates and documents are enough to get you just about
anywhere you want to go.
The starting salary for a biochemist is $19.92 an hour and the yearly salary is $41,400. Since the
common requirement to become a biochemist is to have a Ph. D., the pay normally jumps up to $39.17
an hour for the average and $81,500 a year (Biochemists). I chose to become a biochemist because Ive
always had a dream of become a world renowned scientist, making the newest discoveries to create a

better world for everyone. I have the ambition and hunger for scientific knowledge needed to become a
good biochemist, and I think both me and the world around me will benefit greatly from my discoveries.
My education without scholarships will cost $206,216 for my Ph. D., not including room and board if I
should choose to stay on campus. The credits per hour at Michigan State University are shown by this
