Work Sample Reflection

Title of Work sample- Dyna Band Reflection and Principles of Strength and Conditioning
Mid-Term
Date Completed- 3/7/14

DESCRIBE WORK SAMPLE
For level II I had to teach group workouts to the fitness assessment classes. I personally taught
walk/jog, dyna band and stability ball, and yoga. The Mid-Term project we had to complete for
Principles of Strength and Conditioning was to create a yearlong workout program for a 9 year
old athlete. The goal was to create a program that would get the athlete stronger and in better
shape while avoiding injury. The biggest obstacle for this project was creating a training
program that a 9 year old would be able to complete and understand while still receiving gains
from the program created.

ALIGNMENT REFLECTION
Health Promotion Standard Alignment
I believe the best standard this artifact aligns with is Standard 4: Diverse Learners: The
health promoter understands how clients differ in their approaches to learning and creates a
variety of education/training methods that are adapted to diverse learners. This artifact
demonstrates the ability to create a training program for a 9 year old athlete compared to an
adult. Children and adults have different learning styles and capabilities. By being able to
recognize the differences in children and adults learning abilities I was able to create a
training program that a child would be able to understand. This artifact also demonstrates
that I have the ability to teach group classes to individuals that have different learning styles.
Health and Physical Educations Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment
I believe the best KSD standard this artifact aligns with is Standard KSD1.c.- Selects
Instructional Goals: The candidate can establish clearly written goals that reflect the
curriculum framework and standards, and can articulate high expectations that permit
viable methods of assessment and account for varying learning needs and styles, and
prior knowledge. This is the best standard because the program includes goals for the
athlete to reach for every workout they are completing. These goals are clear and will
give the athlete a well-planned out path to success.

PERSONAL REFLECTION
What I learned about teaching/training from this experience.
I learned that taking into account different learning abilities and styles is a big factor in being
successful. If I created a workout for a 9 year old the way I create a workout for an adult the 9
year old would struggle in completing the workout. By taking into account the different learning
style I believe the 9 year old would be more successful than they would be if I created a workout
like I would for an adult.

What I learned about myself as a prospective health promotion specialist as a result of this
experience/work sample:
I learned that I need to take into account different learning styles more often. I tend to think that
the way I learn is the best way of learning but I usually dont think about what the best way of
learning for someone else might be. If I think about the best way or ask how the person learns
best I will be able to be more successful in teaching or coaching that person specific ideas or
activities.
