A personal message from Greg Hands MP

Dear Resident,

Until 2006 the Labour Party ran
Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
During their years in power, they
doubled Council Tax, with average
7.7% annual increases, at the same
time as mounting up 169 million in
debt and neglecting our streets, parks
and schools.

Since the Conservatives took over in
2006, Council Tax has fallen by 20%,
crime is down by a quarter, our streets
are cleaner and many of our parks have
been improved and have won 13 Green
Flag awards. Furthermore, six new free
schools have opened, over 1,000 people have been helped onto the
property ladder and the popular Boris Bike cycle hire scheme has
been brought to the borough at zero cost to the taxpayer.

In contrast to this incredible record, the Labour Party have nothing
positive to say. They are trying to make this election about a lie they
have manufactured about the NHS. Putting aside the fact that the
council does not run, control or in any way make decisions about the
NHS and local hospitals - the Prime Minister himself visited H&F the
other day to confirm Charing Cross will retain its A&E and other
services. In fact, a brand new hospital will be built on the same site,
maintaining first rate care for local people. You can read more about
the true facts about Charing Cross below.

My late brother was treated for 12 years in the Charing Cross for
cancer, and I would not be quiet if the hospital were in any way under
threat. I sat next to Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, and
also a former hospital user, when he announced to the House of
Commons in the Autumn that A&E services would be there in the new
hospital. The Prime Minister and his family have also used Charing
Cross hospital, and has guaranteed a bright future for the hospital.

I am enormously proud of the Conservative Council team in
Hammersmith & Fulham. But, please, understand that this election
will be extremely close. Local Conservatives need your votes to
continue to reduce your council tax bill and improve services. Please
vote for all your Conservative candidates tomorrow.

Yours sincerely,

Greg Hands MP
Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham

H&F in the papers:
David Cameron visits Hammersmith to
support local elections

Alix Culbertson, getwestlondon
Thursday 15th May 2014

The Prime Minister with Cllr Charlie Dewhirst, Cllr Greg Smith
and local Conservative activists, backing the Conservatives 20%
reduction in Council"Tax over eight years.

The Prime Minister popped into Hammersmith today to support his
fellow Conservatives running in next week's local elections.

David Cameron swung by the Hammersmith and Fulham
Conservative headquarters in Greyhound Road this morning to show
he is fully behind the Tory's bid to stay in power in the borough when
people go to the polls next week.

He told getwestlondon: "I wanted to come to congratulate the
Conservative council here for providing four years of providing good
services while reducing council tax. They have reduced costs by
joining up with Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster for many
back office services which is a model for everybody else.

"It seems to me the Conservative councillors here are fighting their
campaign very well and have demonstrated a really important way of
helping people with the cost of living. I'm very proud of them.

"For example, they recently raised 88 million from high value council
housing which wasn't being used and are now pouring it back into
social housing to provide for more people."

Talking about Charing Cross Hospital, one of the most contentious
issues in the borough, he accused Hammersmith MP, Andy Slaughter
of not giving out the true facts about the hospital.

Mr Slaughter has relentlessly campaigned with the Save Our
Hospitals group, saying Charing Cross is to be closed which will risk
lives.

But Mr Cameron said: "Andy Slaughter is not giving the true facts.
Charing Cross will retain its A&E and services, it will still be a very
good hospital with a fantastic cancer care unit so I think the
Conservatives councillors are correct to write to local residents to put
the facts right."

The Prime Minister also spoke about the proposed third runway at
Heathrow, saying the commission set up will look at the various
proposals and the big decisions will be made in June 2015 following a
report by Sir Howard Davies who he trusts to make a fair decision.

He finished at the Conservative headquarters by saying: "People are
electing councillors for the next four years, we live in a democracy but
I hope people will choose to keep the Conservative council in place in
this borough."

Joining the Prime Minster was Hammersmith MP hopeful, Charlie
Dewhirst and Council deputy leader, Greg Smith.

Mr Dewhirst said: "We've been fighting a very hard campaign to
ensure the Conservatives keep the borough because we've got so
much more to offer people. I'm going to be running for MP next year
but the focus at the moment is very much on the local elections next
week."
