Course overview
This course is designed to produce aircraft engineering graduates who are equipped with the technical knowledge, skills
and personal and professional qualities needed to obtain employment and succeed in the aircraft maintenance industry.
The course includes all of the knowledge requirements detailed in the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Category
B1.1 Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Licence syllabus (part-66).

As the course is EASA approved it provides students with an opportunity to obtain both an honours degree and the
Aviation Authority training certificate. This reduces the amount of live aircraft work experience an applicant must obtain
before they can apply for a maintenance engineering licence. Obtaining a Category B Licence is the first step to becoming
a certified licensed aircraft engineer.

Facilities
The Aviation Academy comprises two hangars each with classrooms, workshops and laboratory provision as well as a
Boeing 737-200 aircraft, BAC 1-11 body, two Jet Provosts, a Jetstream and Piper Aztec. There is also a large selection of
gas turbine and piston engines.

The workshops house the latest equipment designed for the study of specific aspects of aircraft engineering, including
hydraulics, landing gear, pneumatics, structural repair, electrics and electronics workshops.

In addition, the Academy has classrooms equipped with interactive Smart Boards and a library of technical publications
and aircraft manuals for reference.
