Introduction to Graphic/Web Design Grades 7-8

Teacher: Mr. Stinebrook
Carthage J unior High School

Philosophy: Introduction to Graphic/Web Design is designed to acquaint students with
the career-related world of animators and graphic/web designers.
Rationale: Students will have the opportunity to gain beginner level hands-on
experience in animation and graphic/web design and the opportunity to test that
experience in a work-like environment through team job assignments. Industry
standard web design software will be used and learning will be self-directed through the
use of projects and project timelines. This method allows students to explore a broad
range of career opportunities while emphasizing skills such as problem-solving,
communication, and leadership.
Program Goals: The goal of Introduction to Graphic/Web Design is to expose learners
to the opportunities and responsibilities associated with a career in the animating or
graphic/web design field. Students will learn basic technical, creative, and
communication skills to help develop occupational competence and career knowledge
and awareness. Emphasis will be placed on work-place related skills such as attitude,
work habits, and attendance.

Course Description: Students will complete various career study projects, as well as
using various graphic/web design and animating programs and sites, to complete team
and individual based projects in a work-like environment. All seventh and eighth grade
students are eligible to participate with standard course credit granted to those who
complete the class with a passing grade.

assignments and tests will only be accepted if due to a school absence. If a student has
been absent, he/she must check with the instructor for missed assignments. Students
will be allowed two days for every missed day to make up assignments. After that
deadline, assignments are considered late and will not be accepted for grading. As all
work is done in class, it is difficult to make up work so attendance is a must. If a student
does happen to miss a class and need extra time to complete work, they may arrive
early to class, at 7:30 am, with prior permission and a note from the instructor.
