Why: In response to new federal guidance developed jointly by the US Department of
Education and the US Department of Justice, the Coalition For Fairness & Equity in
Schoolsa group of over 30 Delaware organizations, community leaders and elected
officialshas formulated six recommendations to combat the use of exclusionary
discipline practices. Councilmen Nnamdi Chukwuocha (1
st
District; Education, Youth
& Families Committee chair) and Jea Street (10
th
District) will announce their support
of the Coalition and introduce resolutions at their respective council meetings later that
evening to request that school districts enact the recommendations made by the
Coalition to end school push out.
