WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST

LUTHERAN CHURCH!

We give thanks to God that you are joining us today!

Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they
can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an
“organization”. We are small enough to allow people to
know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer
opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize”
in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel
of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are
what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you
are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ
Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721.
Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with
you personally.
2
THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and
preparation. Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize
yourself with the service. A few moments spent this way will help
make the service more meaningful.

NEXT WEEK’S LUTHERAN HOUR MESSAGE:

“They Needed Wine” Speaker: Dr. Rev. Ken Klaus.
Why did Jesus miraculously change water into wine
and save a wedding party from ruin? He did it, in part, because He
wants us to come to Him with our problems, big and small.
(John 2:1-5) Listen to The Lutheran Hour Message on KOA, Denver
(AM850) at 6:00 a.m. and KFKA, Greeley (AM1310) at 9:30 a.m.

Peace With Christ Radio Broadcast: KCOL (600AM), at 9:00 AM

Sundays.

Train. OGT provides Christian, humanitarian aid and disaster relief
here in America and throughout the world. Underwear is one of
their greatest needs. Please bring your donations to the Sunshine
Room and place in the OGT basket between January 17th and Feb-
ruary 21st. Thank you for your support of Orphan Grain Train.
♦ Hate to throw away your beautiful Christmas cards? Cut off the
fronts and bring them to PWC. LWML sends these card fronts to
Ysleta Mission for craft projects and Sunday School. Your old
Portals of Prayers are either taken to Ysleta or delivered to people
in Ghana, Africa by a group called Christ Aid. A basket is avail-
able in the Sunshine Hall for your contributions. Spread God’s
word and recycle all at the same time!
♦ The next LWML Executive Board meeting will be Monday, Janu-

The Sign of the Cross

Lutheran liturgical scholar, Paul Lang notes:
Crossing oneself was practiced by Christians from the
earliest centuries and may go back to apostolic times.
We know that it was already a common ceremony used
daily in A.D. 200, for Tertullian writes: “In all undertak-
ings - when we enter a place or leave it; before we dress;
before we bathe; when we take our meals; when we light
the lamps in the evening; before we retire at night; when
we sit down to read; before each task -- we trace the sign
of the cross on our foreheads.” St. Augustine (A.D. 431)
speaks of this custom many times in his sermons and let-
ters.

thorities.”

Hong Kong – Jan. 1-15

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in Hong
Kong in 1949, shortly after the formation of the Peoples Republic
of China. In 1976, The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod
(LCHKS) officially became an LCMS partner church.

Daily Prayers:

Sunday: With thanksgiving for the mission-minded partnership of

The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS). The LCHKS has
nearly 9,000 members and 37 congregations.
11

Monday: For Rev. Dr. Allan Yung, president of the LCHKS—that

his leadership would continue to be a blessing and that the Lord would
deepen and strengthen his faith in Christ.

Tuesday: For the GEO missionaries serving through English-as-a-

Foreign-Language ministry in Hong Kong through a partnership with
the LCHKS: Megan Birney, Andrea Bolognini, and Lynette Lierman—
that God would work in the relationships they build through English
classes and other activities to make His love known to their students.

Wednesday: For the ministries of LCHKS English centers, which is

the result of a new partnership ministry between LCMS World Mission
and the LCHKS. Ask the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of unbeliev-
ing English students, so they might take their missionary teachers’
words to heart and trust in Christ as their Savior.

Thursday: For the pastors and teachers of LCHKS churches and

schools—that the Lord would grant them strength and endurance in
their work and Christ-centered joy as they minister to others in their
daily lives.

Friday: For the LCHKS school system, which educates students stu-
dents at more than 40 schools. These schools provide daily opportuni-
ties to reach thousands of unbelieving students and their families with
the Gospel of Christ.

Rural and Small Town Mission — Jan. 16-31

Slightly more than half of the 6,000-plus LCMS congregations
are in communities with fewer than 15,000 people, and about half
of the residents in those areas have no ongoing relationship with
a Christian church that teaches Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Saturday: For a renewed desire among LCMS members to reach out

to unbelievers in rural or small town contexts through ministries in their
congregations.
