Madrid, J une 13, 2014 - Henry Schein Spain, the leading provider of products and services to professionals in the dental and medical sectors, has recently collaborated with DentalCoop, the voluntary dental care association, on its mission to the Western Sahara.
Activities such as these form part of Henry Scheins global cooperative social responsibility program Henry Schein Cares, which contributes to improving access to medical services among the most disadvantaged sectors of the population. The health activities that Henry Schein Cares supports focus on three main areas: improving wellbeing; creating infrastructures for the provision of health services; and assistance in emergencies. These objectives are perfectly in tune with DentalCoops priorities in the areas of health and education.
Each year, Dentalcoop organizes several cooperative trips to various countries in Africa and, on this occasion, has decided to launch a project in the Western Sahara in coordination with the NGO Sahara 4x4 Solidario and the Ministry for Public Health of the SADR (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic).
Its mission was to launch a refresher course in oral surgery for Saharan dentists based in refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria and to provide assistance for the population in the northern area of the liberated territories of the Western Sahara. Such assistance is provided in Navarra Hospital, built in 1999 by the Government of Navarra, which currently has very basic infrastructure that is not sufficient for treating the population in the area.
In the words of Juan M. Molina, CEO of Henry Schein Spain: We feel very satisfied with our collaboration with Dentalcoop on social action projects and in helping greatly disadvantaged people.
In addition, dental services were provided to more than 250 adults and 40 children in a record time of four days as part of the dental health cooperation program. This service complies with the agreements made with the Ministry for Public Health, Mohamed Lamin Daddi and the senior health officials in the Saharan Government. Even so, the commitment made by both sides is to continue providing continuous training to dentists and local support staff, as well as support in the Prevention and School Health Program carried out in the schools in each province. Furthermore, it is hoped that funds will be raised for the necessary renovation work to the Department of Stomatology at Rabouni Hospital, for assistance to be provided to the recently established clinic in Tifariti and for supplies to be given to the centers where these services are offered. http://www.dentalcoop.org/
