Educational Leadership Program Plan of Work:

Michigan Standard I Visionary Leadership

Goal Develop my leadership skills and my knowledge of the school improvement process to
ensure that our building is making data-based decisions and making sure that the needs of all
students are met throughout various intervention and support activities.

Activity (Leadership) I will work with the school improvement team who is responsible for
developing, implementing, and evaluating our schools plan to improve our students writing
abilities as measured by the MEAP and other school/district assessments. I worked with the
team to establish an action plan to make changes within our building to make strides to improve
support systems for struggling and gifted learners while making strides to improve academic
achievement for all students.

Activity - (Participation) I will also serve as a member of the Mathematics Committee to allign
the curriculum and help roll out the new program for teachers at the middle school.

Timeline These activities will continue throughout this school year as well as next with
periodic meetings and groundwork between meetings.

Support Needed The district will provide some release time for both SIP and mathematics
curricular activities. Our SIP Team will be available to assist me with our changes to the middle
school to improve our structure to incorporate Rti and building relationships to encourage
increased achievement with our African American males. My mentor will serve as a resource for
me to bounce ideas with and express concerns with things causing difficulties throughout the
implementation process. In addition, our curriculum director and superintendent remain as
resources as we make changes and consider resources and programs to implement to increase
mathematics proficiency while making strides to incorporate high level thinking skills necessary
for the common core transition.

Michigan Standard II Cultural & Instructional Leadership

Goal Develop an honors track for grades 6-8 all subject areas for 2015-16 school year.
Activity (Leadership) I will serve on a committee of teachers to create this honors track and
work to build the program, criteria and assessments to place students, resources to challenge
students and data that will be reviewed to ensure effectiveness of program.
Timeline This will be a two year process as we plan the program to present to the board of
education and then the second year will be the implementation of the program.
Support Needed The district will provide time for us to work in subject area departments to
build our program for advanced students to ensure that they are presented with challenging
content that will push them to advance their learning.
Goal Increase staff awareness of effective instructional strategies and grading practices that
will positively impact the culture of our building.
Activity (Leadership) Renee and I will as Galilelo Leaders share strategies for quality
instruction and improved grading practices. We are dedicated to improving our staffs grading to
a more accurate perception of student mastery of learning and also working to decrease behavior
disruptions through the use of PBIS intervention strategies.
Timeline This will be a year- long activity with regular meetings and possible off site
workshops.
Support Needed The district will provide released time for workshop attendance and
workshop pay for after school committee meetings.

Michigan Standard III - Management

Goal Increase my knowledge of the behind-the-scenes work involved in the opening of the
school year.
Activities (Observation) I will sit in on administrative & counselors meetings. I will ask the
head secretary to share her knowledge and various to do lists with me. I will attend a student
orientation/registration session.
Timeline These activities will occur in the week prior to the opening of school.
Support Needed My mentor will allow me to look over her shoulder during designated,
school opening preparations and events.

Goal- Increase the progress monitoring of students in intervention and advanced programs using
classroom assessment data and NWEA data to monitor student placements throughout the year.
Activities- Initial data review at the conclusion of the current school year to identify incoming
6
th
graders placements into support and advanced level courses. The students will be monitored
quarterly to ensure that adjustments are made at the semester to meet the individual needs of all
students.
Timeline- These data reviews must continue quarterly and at the end of the school year the
elementary data must be collected and alalyzed with teacher input to establish placements for the
incoming 6
th
grade class. This will be ongoing and ensure that data is driving placement and
decision making processes.
Support Needed- I will need the input from elementary teachers of the exiting 6
th
graders and
the support of our curriculum director to provide my with the data necessary to triangulate data
to make placements based on individual students performance on MEAP, NWEA, classroom
assessments.

Michigan Standard IV - Collaboration with Community and Diversity

Goal- Improve our achievement and behavior with our African American boys district-wide. I
will work with a task force of students, teachers and administrators to identify strategies to
improve our achievement within this group of students.
Activities- Establish staff mentors for targeted list of students who do not have positive male
role model at home to help establish goals and discuss proper interactions within the school
setting. In additon, the integration of lunches with these targeted students to assist in building
relationships that can foster trust and support. In addition, there needs to be a tutoring service
organized for these struggling students throughout the week so that they can receive the
necessary support for them to be successful.
Timeline- This activity will span over the next few years to help us establish support systems for
our at-risk students and improve the disparity present with the low achievment and high
behavioral challenges with our African American boys district-wide.
Support Needed- There will be a need for some professional development for staff in working
with at-risk African American students. Our district has changed tremendously and there are
many teachers struggling with the management of our changing population. In addition, our
adminsitrators will need to provide resources and funds to support our mentoring and activites
done throughout academic center throughout the year.

Michigan Standard V Acting in Fair, Professional and Ethical Manner

Goal- I plan to work closely with my mentor and HR Director during the coming year to observe
the process of posting job openings, reviewing application, interview process, and candidate
selection process for the middle school and high school if available.
Activities- I will meet with Lauren to discuss our schedule changes at the start of the year and
make adaptions to our schedule as needed with actual student numbers present. We were forced
to project low to be safe and avoid wasting funds. I then will observe the process of posting and
interviewing top candidates for our open positions. We have had several retirements and people
leave for new positions so it is likely we will need to hire from outside in the fall and we will
begin planning as soon as the numbers begin coming in throughout summer enrollments.
Timeline- This will span throughout the next year as we look at the need for the fall as well as
plan for the following school year beginning in early spring. I would also be interested in
observing some work with the layoff and recall process if possible next year.
Support Needed I will rely on the experience of my mentor and adminstrative team at central
office to demonstrate the appropriate procedures and also consult our union president on
concerns that I may come across throughout the process for my personal information looking at
the union perspective of things as well.

Michigan Standard VI Community Influence

Goal- I plan to establish a JOOI student chapter of the Optimist club in our building and help
build a partnership with our St. Clair Shores organization. I think that this will foster community
relationships and help build the support of our retired residents who as often disconnected from
the school.
Activties- I will begin working together with the Optimist Club and try to establish a JOOI club
at SLMS to work on service projects throughout the community to boost the relationship
between our school and the community.
Timeline- I hope to establish our youth club within the first month of school and plan for two
projects that take our students into the community to establish a connection within the
community. I hope this JOOI club will continue for the years to come to promote community
connection.
Support Needed- I will need the support of my administrator and the Optimist club to build this
partnership and ensure that our school is seen promoting positive change in our city.

Michigan Standard VII- Technology Integration into the Classroom

Goal- I plan to work with our media specialist to continue our monthly tech club to build teacher
confidence and integrate new applications and technology into the classroom. Doug began this
program this year and I have expressed my willingness to work alongside him to increase the
prevelence and introduce new applications to staff monthly.
Activites- I plan to help staff at the start of the year with establishing the classroom web
presence in Edmodo which will be a building intiative to ensure all parents and students know
what is happening daily in the classroom. This will enable suspended or absent students to find
their assignments and necessary resources to complete their learning activities from outside of
school.
Timeline- This technology professional development will begin in August as teachers return to
work and continue monthly throughout the school year.
Support Needed- We will look to the MISD and our district tecnology director for assitance
with any issues that may arise with needed techonology or support.
