So Percussion and Man Forevers (NY) Explosive Ryonen Tour Hits Toronto
July 13ths Stacked lineup features classical radicals Music in the Barns performing Nicole Lize, and rare
performance by experimental luminary, Gordon Monohan
TORONTO, ON Man Forever, the exploratory percussion project helmed by John Colpitts (aka Kid Millions), one of
New Yorks most versatile and critically lauded collaborators and a founding member of Oneida has teamed up with
So Percussion, the United States premiere contemporary percussion ensemble. Their high-octane North American
tour Ryonen hits Toronto July 13, 2014 with an explosive, one night only performance at Torontos newest music den, The
Jam Factory (2 Matilda St.). While previous Man Forever records were inspired by blissful, overwhelming confusion,
Ryonen derives its power from its clarity and immediacy, and is sure to knock you on your ass (Bill Meyer, Magnet).
The two pieces of Ryonen are rhythmically seductive and instantly exciting while retaining the experimental legacy that
Man Forever has cultivated over several albums and relentless touring. So Percussion and Man Forever combine forces,
highlighting the formers precision and ingenuity with the latters restless punk spirit.
Opening the evening is a rare Toronto performance by a Canadian experimental luminary, renowned sound artist, avant
thinker, Electric Eclectics programmer and Governor General Award winner Gordon Monahan, with his classic
Sauerkraut Synthesizer. Using fruits, vegetables and sauerkraut as voltage controllers for a home programmed
synthesizer, Gordon creates whistling, glitchy electronic tones and drones.
Joining the lineup is Artscape Wychwood Barns based boundary pushing chamber ensemble Music in the Barns with
an anticipated remount of Jules Lger Prize winning composer, Nicole Lizee's haunting piece Hitchcock Etudes.
Montreal based composer Lizee will be in attendance for this special performance. A twisted thrill ride of warped
Hitchcock, scores & sound bites are chopped up & re-assembled by a contemporary string ensemble, turning already
ominous creations into languid glitched out nightmares. Accompanied by visual from Hitchcock's lms spliced & mangled to
match their aural counterparts, Hitchcock Etudes is a serious psych horror trip ticking off a lot of boxes- avant garde,
nu-classical, electronica and horror-movie (Toronto Star).
A pre-show conversation between the Ryonen collaborators and Lize is set to place before the show (7:00 pm) and will
hook in Lizes award winning collaboration in 2012 with So Percussion.
