In order to perform missions, the new Blackjack UAV must be effectively launched
from austere locations (http://www.dvidshub.net/news/133274/vmu-2-breaks-ground

When in 2002 Hood Tech began producing innovative UAV launchers and retrieval sy
stems for small UAVs, those innovations enabled the elimination of runways. This
freed aircraft for shipboard use, for deployment in irregular or disrupted land
scapes, and for other difficult locations. Showing their ruggedness and reliabil
ity, Hood Tech launchers have initiated tens of thousands of flights under the e
xtreme environments of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and aboard ships in the oc
eans around the globe.
