SAFE USE OF OXY SAFE USE OF OXY- - ACETYLENE GAS ACETYLENE GAS
• Treat every cylinder as ‘full’ and handle carefully.
•Always use a trolley and secure the cylinder into it.
•Always secure cylinders in an upright position both in use and in storage.
•Secure all cylinders so that they cannot fall or roll.
•Keep cylinders away from the sun, artificial heat, flammable materials,
corrosive chemical and fumes.
•Avoid damage to valves and gauges. Do not use them for lifting or carrying.
•Provide caps on valves to protect from damage.
•Keep valves and gauges of oxygen cylinders free from oil and grease.
•Use soap solution for leak test of cylinders in use.
•Ensure Flash Back Arrestor on both gauges to protect from Back Fire
•Do not use cylinders as rollers.
•Open cylinder valves slowly, and close sufficiently to shutoff gas - never use
force.
•Always lift cylinders from trucks - do not drop or slide them.
•Never take gas cylinders inside the confined space.
•Never use gas for cleaning purpose.
•Keep hose lines clear of access points.
•Provide GI sheet protection on cylinder top maintaining air gap instead of
using wet cloth to avoid fire.
•Provide sufficient number of ABC (POWDER) type of Fire Extinguishers.
•In case of fire, keep cylinders cool with water spray.
•Ensure Hot Work is under a PTW and Fire Watch.
