Saint Marina, the Great Martyr

Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Mark 10:4
Sunday, July 13, 2014 Volume 2, Issue 28
You are the light of the world! You are the light of the world! You are the light of the world! You are the light of the world!
In todays Gospel reading, we hear
what Jesus once told His disciples.
You are the light of the world...Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works and give glory to your Fa-
ther who is in heaven.
What is your light? As a Christian, your light is
the light of Christ. When people see that you
have the light of Christ, you just cant hide it!
Lots of times, there have been saints who
tried to live out in the wilderness. They
wanted to live all alone so that they could focus on being close to God.
They could pray. They could read. They could think about good things.
These were very holy people. But even in the middle of nowhere, they
couldnt hide this light of Christ. People still found them.
St. Seraphim lived in the cold woods of Russia. But people still wanted to
see him! So they walked for miles and miles through the dark woods to
find him. He couldnt hide his beautiful holy light.
When you do good things, people will know that you are close to our Lord
too! You wont even have to tell them!

SAINT MARINA
A VERY BRAVE SAINT
Have you ever been really afraid of
something? Afraid of a snake? Afraid
of the dark? Afraid of heights?
This week, we celebrate the nameday of a
saint who had lots of reasons to be
afraid...but she wasnt afraid at all! St. Marina
lived just 200 years after our Lord, Jesus
Christ lived. At that time, the rulers were try-
ing so hard to get rid of Christians. The
truth was, you know, that they were afraid of
something, too. They were afraid that the
Christians would one day be in charge!
Marina was just a young woman, but she knew what would happen if the
officials found out she was a Christian. She would be hurt, and maybe
even killed. And still, she was not afraid. She said that she believed in our
one, true God. Then she was horribly hurt, again and again. St. Marina
knew that God was with her. She knew that God would welcome her to
heaven. So she was not afraid.
We remember St. Marina as a brave saint who followed God, even when
it was hard for her.
We celebrate the nameday of St. Marina on Thursday, July 17th.
