The generalist nurse provides care in and across all environments.

To meet this outcome

for graduation from the nursing program Ferris State says that I must organize interdisciplinary
health needs of diverse populations across the life span toward achieving the goal of healthy
individuals, families, groups, and communities. According to The American Association of
Colleges of Nursing (2008), nurses focus on individual, family, community, and population
health care, as they monitor and manage aspects of the environment to foster health. I have met
this goal be conducting a windshield survey. I was able to assess the healthcare needs of a
community and make recommendations for the diverse population on education and assess
ability of new healthcare programs could benefit the health of that community. Another way that
I have demonstrated meeting this outcome was by conducting an OB assessment on an expecting
mother. I was able to assess her and her babys health concerns. By educating her on the risks
of smoking while pregnant and healthy eating habits I was able to organize the healthcare needs
of health growing family. I have learned in nursing school that it is important to talk with my
patients and find out their goals for themselves and their families. Helping them to identify what
steps they can do to improve on those areas discussed. All the while remembering to take into
account their lifestyle, age and community in which they live. Then I can develop a plan of care
to meet their needs. This will ultimately contribute to the health of their family and also the
community.
