GENERIC NAME: Terbutaline

DRUG CLASS: Bronchodilator Beta-adrenergic Agonist
PHARMACODYNAMICS: A Beta-adrenergic agonist that results in the accumulation of cyclic Adenosine
Monophosphate (cAMP).Results of increased levels of camp at Beta-adrenergic receptors include:
Bronchodilation, CNS and Cardiac Stimulation, Diuresis, Gastric Acid Secretion. Relatively selective for
Beta-2 (Pulmonary) Receptors.
DOSAGE: Bronchodilation PO (Adults): 2.5-5mg tid, at 6-hr intervals.PO (Children 12-15 yr): 2.5 mg tid, at
6-hr intervals.SC (Adults): 0.25mg, may repeat in 15-30 min (not to exceed 0.5mg in 4hr).Inhaln (Adults
and Children > 12yr): 2 inhalations q 4-6 hr (200 mcg/spray).Tocolysis (Arrest of Preterm Labor)PO
(Adults): 2.5mg q 4-6 hr until delivery
INDICATIONS: Used as a Bronchodilator in reversible airway obstruction due to Asthma or COPD.
Unlabeled Use: Used to arrest preterm labor.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to adrenergic amines or any ingredients in preparations
ADVERSE EFFECTS: CNS: Nervousness, Restlessness, Insomnia, Tremor, Headache, andAnxiety
CV: Hypertension, Arrhythmias, Angina, Tachycardia, Palpitations, and PulmonaryEdema
GI: Nausea, Vomiting
F and E: Hypokalemia
NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bronchospasm: assess blood pressure, pulse, respiratory pattern, lung sounds, and character of
secretions prior to and after treatment. Cardiovascular effects are increased with parenteral use.
Observe patient for appearance of drug tolerance and rebound bronchospasm

BRAND NAME: NasoClear
DRUG CLASS: Nasal Decongestants, Antiallergics
PHARMACODYNAMICS: NasoClear contains sodium chloride solution, a salt solution that treats dry or
irritated nasal passages. It works by rinsing and moisturizing the nostril. Sodium chloride nasal spray is
used to treat dryness inside the nose (nasal passages). For infants and young children with stuffy nose
who cannot blow their noses, use of NasoClear makes the mucus easier to remove with a nasal bulb
syringe.
DOSAGE: 2-4 sprays on each nostril, TID. Or as directed
INDICATIONS: Relief from nasal congestion; cold or flu symptoms; nasal irritation due to pollen, dust
mites, mold and pollution; nasal allergies; upper airway cough syndrome (postnasal drip)
CONTRAINDICATIONS: hypersensitivity
ADVERSE EFFECTS: NasoClear does not contain any medication and undesirable effects usually do not
occur with use. However, if the inside of the nose is very dry and irritated, stinging may occur. It may
also induce transient sneezing
NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Instruct to not share NasoClear with others because of the possible increased risk of infection.
2. Wipe the nozzle before and after administration
