Come join the Paulist Associates!
We are a lay community who meet once a month to grow in our
spirituality. We pray in community using the Paulist Prayer Book
and discuss the writings of founder of the Paulist Fathers Servant of
God Fr. Isaac Hecker, CSP. All are welcome! Your presence
enriches our journey. Our next meeting is Sunday, September 7 at
3 pm in the UCC library. Our topic this month is the history of the
Paulist Fathers. We hope to see you there! For more information,
contact Patricia Collier at pcollier@austincc.edu.

In what concrete ways are you living your faith
through service to others?
Children’s liturgy needs your help!
Did you ever wonder where all the children go
during the UCC’s morning Mass? Here’s your
chance to find out! Volunteers are needed to
help lead Children’s Liturgy sessions at the 9:00
am Mass (10:30 am in the summer). If you
enjoy working with children, this is a great
opportunity to help bring the Sunday liturgy to them at a level they
can understand. For more information, email re@utcatholic.org.
“He went up on the mountain by himself to pray.” This line is easily
missed in today’s Gospel about walking on water. Jesus spent much
time alone in prayer; especially before doing something significant.
Do you spend time in prayer before making major decisions?
Mass • Assumption of Mary • Friday, August 15
Though the UCC is ordinarily closed on Fridays
through the summer, we will open for Mass at 12:05
pm on Friday, August 15, to celebrate the Solemnity
of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass
will be held in the Holy Spirit Chapel.

There will also be Mass at 8 am at St. Austin Parish.

Recently the UCC’s air conditioning
equipment has suffered several major
breakdowns and is currently running at a limited capacity.
Rather than spending additional funds on expensive new parts
for our antiquated chiller, the UCC is beginning a fundraising
drive to replace our outdated equipment with a new, efficient
chiller that will reward us with energy savings each month.

To replace the chiller, the UCC needs to raise $90,000.

Thanks to the blessed generosity of one of our community
members, we already have $45,000 pledged for the new
chiller! To continue to provide for our growing campus
ministry, it is critical that we raise the additional $45,000 as
soon as possible. To contribute, send a check to the UCC with
“HVAC” written on the memo line or give online at:
utcatholic.org/give/hvac! Thank you!
Farewell, Meghan! • TODAY after 10:30 Mass
Join us TODAY, Sunday, August 10th, after 10:30
am Mass as we say farewell to Meghan Vail, our
Business Manager of these past three years. We will
have a small reception with some cake as a small
thank you for her years of ministry at the UCC. Also
read Meghan’s “farewell for now” note on the next page!

Dear community,

When I walked into the UCC for the first time
in the fall of 2008 as a UT graduate student
looking to sponsor an RCIA candidate, I had
no idea I would be leaving six years later as the
Center's Business Manager and Finance
Officer. I had no concept of how this community would
continually shape my faith...or that I would learn so much about
commercial air conditioning in the process! I have been forever
changed by this wonderful, faithful Catholic community and by
the ministry of the Paulist Fathers.

Let this not be a goodbye, but rather, a "farewell for now," and I
look forward to seeing all of you from time to time as I pursue my
theology education full-time in Austin. I hold each member of the
UCC community - those I have known well and those I have
known not so well - in my prayers.

Blessings and peace,
Me
Conversations with Pope Francis
This series runs from July 13th through September.
Meetings will be held 10:15 - 11:15 am Sunday
mornings in Newman Hall. Each week we will hear
an excerpt from Pope Francis’ The Church of Mercy
and then delve into what each reading means for us.
There is no need to attend all sessions, so come
when you can!
Important CALL FOR Volunteers!
The Greater Austin Chapter of the Knights of
Columbus has an excellent opportunity to raise
funds for the Diocese Office of Pro-Life Activities
and Chaste Living. We need your help!

The food Vendor for the Circuit of the Americas
has generously offered us the chance to staff some of their
concession stands for the Formula One Race Oct 31 - Nov 2.
We need over 400 volunteers signed up by August 29!
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. There is no entry charge.
Parking, breakfast & lunch will be provided. Mass will be offered
for volunteers by Msgr. Louis Pavlicek on Sunday before the race.

Funds raised will be donated to the Office of Pro-Life Activities and
Chaste Living, which supports a myriad of ministries in the Austin
Diocese: Project Rachel, Sidewalk Ministry, Gabriel Project, Pro-
Life Helpline, Natural Family Planning, Catechesis on Human Love
Certification, Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day, including the UT Party
for Life, the Coordination of Parish Pro-Life Committees, Culture
of Life Speakers Bureau, and much more.

Contact the Knights of Columbus right away at:
AustinKnightsF1@gmail.com, or call or text us at 512-387-0337.
Please let us know which of the 3 days you can work. If you can
work all three, that would be great!
