Course
Syllabus

Course: Algebra 1
Teacher: Mr. Denner
Course
Description:
Algebra I is essential for a college prep student. It is study of the properties,
operations, and relations of numbers and of symbols representing numbers.
Algebra makes greater use of symbols to represent numbers and ideas than any
previous math course. The major topics studied are algebraic expressions,
solving equations, properties of real numbers, operations with real numbers,
solving inequalities and graphing on a number line, solving story problems,
simplifying polynomials, factoring, operations with fractional expressions,
functions, graphing on a coordinate plane, determining slope and equations of
lines, solving systems of equations and inequalities, and working with rational
and irrational numbers.

Course Objectives
The purpose of Algebra is to enable a person to solve problems that would be
difficult or impossible without its methods. The logical reasoning processes will
develop and transfer to other areas in decision-making and problem solving.

Instructional
Methods

Algebra 1 will be conducted in a Flipped manner for the entire year. This
means students will watch interactive lecture videos outside of class. This will
allow more student/teacher communication in class as well as more work/group
project time in class.

Grading
Structure:

Tests.50%
Quizzes.30%
Homework/Problem Solving15%
Notebook Checks5%
Students must pass either both quarters, or a semester and quarter in
order to pass the semester
Grading Scale:

A = 100 - 93 C+ = 79.9 - 77 D- = 62.9 - 60
A- = 92.9 - 90 C = 76.9 - 73 F = 59.9 and below
B+ = 89.9 - 87 C- = 72.9 - 70
B = 86.9 - 83 D+ = 69.9 - 67
B- = 82.9 - 80 D = 66.9 63

Semester Tests: There will be a semester test at the end of each semester that will factor into
your final semester grade.
